Your mother had always been easy going, practically allowing you to do whatever you wanted whenever you wanted. That was nice sometimes, but a small part of you wished she would have said no just this one time. Kakyoin said goodbye to your mother, shamelessly flirting with her to which you responded to by punching him in the arm. Your mother, as oblivious as she was, just brushed it off and spouted nonsense about him making whoever he marries very happy in the future, side eyeing you all the while. You waved curtly to her, ushering Kakyoin out before she could say anything to embarrass you.
"Jotaro said he'd meet us there since his house is out of the way," Kakyoin explained.
"Are you sure he's not just saying that? He seemed about as excited to go as I did." You narrowed your eyes, promising yourself to kick Jotaro's ass if you spent the entire night suffering by yourself.
"Don't worry, Jotaro knows he can't say no to me!" Your friend puffed his chest out proudly, which made you laugh a bit.
"If you say so."
You had no idea where the kid that was hosting the party lived, so you spent the entirety of the walk following Kakyoin, assuming he knew the way. The two of you filled the time by talking about anything and everything, which basically meant you listened in peace as your friend droned on about a new video game he got. From what you picked up on, it was about some kind of alien species that came down to earth and threatened to take over the world if the humans didn't do whatever they said. You zoned out a bit when he started trying to explain the mechanics of the game to you, settling for just enjoying Kakyoin's presence as he spoke words that you weren't even sure were real.
Before you realized it, you had arrived at the party. You knew it was where you were supposed to be because even from afar you could see the neon lights filtering out of the windows and could hear the soft thud of the bass from whatever song was playing. The sound of the music got louder as you approached the house, and you wondered just what it would be like once you actually got in. People were already stumbling around the yard, clearly drunk or buzzed or intoxicated from some other substance. You cringed as their drunken scent radiated off their bodies and invaded their nostrils, yet Kakyoin seemed unfazed by it all.
As you walked up to the door, you were surprised to see that Jotaro had kept his word to Kakyoin. He was leaning against the railing of the small front patio, cigarette in hand. Although you typically didn't enjoy smoking, you couldn't blame him for it tonight. The whole situation was probably stressful and just overall annoying to him, but just like you he was more worried about making his friend happy.
"Finally, you're here," he blew out a cloud of smoke, flicking his cigarette onto the ground and crushing it under his foot. "Why are you dressed like a slut?"
The question was obviously directed at you, as both Jotaro and Kakyoin were dressed in their usual school uniforms. You felt greatly out of place, but convinced yourself that every other normal person was dressed in casual clothing, and wearing your school uniform would have made you feel even more self conscious than you already did.
"Jotaro! She looks fine, don't be such a jerk," Kakyoin scolded. "I want the three of us to have fun tonight, together." He put emphasis on the last word, knowing it would be quite the task to get you and Jotaro to get along for a night, especially since there were no more restrictions on your bickering since you were outside school grounds.
You and Jotaro rolled your eyes, but eventually agreed to Kakyoin's conditions. If there was one thing the two of you agreed on, it was that tonight was meant for Kakyoin, and making sure he was happy.
"Good," Kakyoin clapped his hands together, turning towards the door and leading the two of you into the party.
Your ears were met with the pulsing sound of the music before you even walked through the door, and you already knew you would have a headache tomorrow morning. Just like you saw from the outside, the only thing illuminating the inside of the building were various neon lights. They were kind of shitty though, barely offering any light to see as you spotted most people relying on their phone flashlights whenever they needed to move. The thick layer of smoke that rest at the top of the room looked strangely beautiful in the lighting, but only made it more difficult to see in the end.
