-33- Agni Kai: The Rematch

Start from the beginning

Azula smiled and assumed an awkward fighting stance. She sent a sudden blast of blue fire toward Zuko. Zuko brought his hands up and jumped forward, bringing his arms down in front of him. Bending a flame in each hand and they merge. He sent the flame toward Azula. Within seconds there was a wall of fire, blue colliding with red, lashing in violent rage. Azula leapt up on a jet of fire and kicked her legs forward, sending a wave of fire from her feet as she spun.

The buildings around us burned. I tried to keep the flames from burning Katara. I shouldn't have brought her here. The flames died down. I don't know what had happened, I had been distracted. Azula was crouching on the ground. I could tell she is heavily panting, gritting her teeth and narrowing her eyes in determination.

Zuko shot two balls of flame at his sister. She dogged using her blue fire to propel her in the air. Azula shot back at him.

Zuko crouched, being surrounded by blue and orange flames. Azula flew forward, dodging a blast from Zuko. He created a shield of fire, protecting him. He spun, sending flames from his feet.

Azula fell, rolling forward onto the ground. She picked herself up, she was clearly in pain, and her hair had come up done. I hated the woman, but I couldn't help but feel bad for her.

"No lightning today? What's the matter?" He assumed the redirection stance, "Afraid I'll redirect it?"

"Oh, I'll show you lightning!"

She got in the stance to create lighting, but it was irregular, broken, like her. She charged the lighting. Her eyes flicked from Zuko to us. She smiled and I knew what she was doing. But I didn't have time, nor the ability to stop it. I pushed Katara down as the lightning was fired.

"No!"

Zuko jumped. I only saw his back as the lighting hit him. Tears flooded my vision.

"Zuko!"

Zuko was lying on the ground in pain. The cloth around his chest was burnt away, revealing a large scar. Katara ran toward him, I went to follow, but was stopped in my tracks by a blast of lightning. I looked to see Azula, hunched over and swaying from side to side. She suddenly started laughing maniacally and ran towards me.

I looked at Katara, "Take care of Zuko. I got this."

She nodded, unassured, but I don't have time to think about that. Her job is to look after Zuko right now. My job... Is to kill his sister.

I felt power coursing through me. The comet had come.

"Azula!" My breath was warm, red flames danced at my feet, "I'm sorry it has to end like this."

The flames around me calmed, the center was pure white, slowly fading into red.

She fired another bolt of lighting at me. I held out my non-dominant hand, catching the lighting. My dominant hand formed a trail. Running from my non-dominant hand, down my arm, over my chest, and I flicked the electricity out of my dominant hand, into the sky above us.

Azula's eyes widened. I hadn't even blinked.

I created a wall of flame. I had to lead her away from Zuko and Katara. I let random flames rage as I hid behind a column, getting my bearings.

"There you are, filthy peasant!"

She shot another blast at me. I ricocheted off the column and grabbed a nearby chain. As I flew up, I noticed a grate, full of water.

"Katara!" She looked up, then realized my plan.

I sent two columns of pure white flame, corralling Azula over the grate.

I joined Azula on the grate. Katara encased us both in water, allowing me room to heat the thinnest layer of ice around my body. Katara helped me move, allowing me to chain Azula to the bars of the grate.

The ice melted and dropped back under the ground.

I backed away, completely soaked. Katara rushed back to finish healing Zuko.

I ran over to them, "Thank you Katara."

Katara was finishing fixing Zuko's wounds, "I should be thanking you two."

Zuko opened his eyes, looking at Katara, then at me, "Thank you."

I laughed, my vision was slightly blurry, "Enough with the sappy stuff. We're alive. That's what matters."

Katara helped Zuko up. He looked me over, scanning me for injuries. Katara did the same.

"Stop looking at me like that," I laughed, "I'm fine!"

Katara glared, "You're covered in light burns."

I looked down, huh... she's right.

I shrugged, "It's amazing how well adrenaline works as a sedative."

Katara rolled her eyes as she began tending to my wounds. We watched as Azula panted and screamed, breathing blue flames and struggling against her bonds.

Katara finished on me, so I walked over, closer to Azula. I held my hand out, using my bending to calm the flames.

"Azula..." She looked at me, pure madness in her eyes, anger in her face, I looked at her, "I'm sorry. You deserved better."
