Uma jumped up. "(Y/N) are you okay?!"
"I'm good."
"What happened?" Mal came over as well.
"Oh it was nothing, I just got worked up for no reason."
"Not that - you seemed to be in pain." She gestured at my hand.
"I think I accidentally clasped a bit of my skin when putting it on, and it just got pulled away." I suck at lying, but they seemed to buy it. There wasn't any other explanation for it anyways.
The interviews were excruciatingly slow, but thankfully uneventful. Most of the students coming in today were younger, so they weren't too evil - with the exception of one boy who yelled "Long live the king!" and nearly gouged Ben's eye out with a wooden sword. But that was it.
I found myself staring down at my bracelet most of the time, spinning it around my wrist, over and over again. What's going on with this lately? First in the meadow with Harry, and now - but there was a difference in the electricity. That day it was a spark - sort of pleasant. This was a shock, and it was painful.
"And that's our last one - you can hand in the forms and you're free to go." Ben's voice sounded distant, but I forced myself to wake up from my thoughts.
"Oh, great - we'll see you later then." I made my voice sound as normal as possible to avoid receiving any pity from them. That was the last thing I needed. "Let's go Uma."
We headed out. "So, are you getting to move in today?"
"Yes finally - my mom's actually ready to let me go."
"She knows you're moving to Auradon City, not Winter's Keep, right?"
"For her, it's all the same - any place out of the Isle is too far for her liking."
"Maybe she should move he-" I stuck out my hand for Uma to stop walking.
"What?"
I pointed across the hallway. Sitting on a bench was, of course, Lydia and Harry. How do they conveniently pop up wherever I am?
"Let's take a detour." I decided.
"Sure." We turned around, but a second too late.
"Hey, Uma. (Y/N)." Lydia was waving and gestured for us to come over.
"We can ignore her right?" I whispered to Uma.
"We could, but I don't think she'd let it go so easily."
"Fine, let's get this over with." I groaned.
"It seems you're feeling better today (y/n)! I'm so glad you've gotten over Harry. I knew it wouldn't take you too long to forget him." I hated to take her bait, but I had to know what she was talking about.
"What do you mean by that?" I stopped myself from calling her a witch. No point in aggravating her now.
"Well, you slept with Johnny last night, didn't you? You and him make a perfect match - he was far too soft for the Isle anyways." I was shocked at her assertion. Could she have anything to do with how I felt last night? No point dwelling on it now anyway, she's clearly deluded. You don't have feelings for Johnny! I assured myself.
I laughed. "You've got it all wrong - He slept in my room, I didn't sleep with him."
"Potayto, potAto."
"Wait, are you spying on me?"
"I just noticed he never left your room last night, that's all." She innocently twirled her hair.
"So you are spying on me - unbelievable." I looked over at Harry. "And you? You're awfully quiet today aren't you?"
Harry scowled, but didn't respond.
"Whatever, I just wanted to check up on you, be the bigger person - but I guess you don't care for that. Carry on, Harry and I have to get back to catching up anyways." She interlocked her hand into his.
"Thanks for wasting my time." Witch. I smiled at the both of them and continued walking. Uma followed, after shaking her head at Harry. This must be equally hard on her. Imagine how you'd feel if Johnny went crazy one day.
"Uma, you know-"
"You don't need to say anything - I trust both you and Johnny. You think I'd trust a word she says?" She pointed back without turning as she said so.
I felt relieved. "Well, it's official - Lydia is trying to ruin my life. And the worst part is I have no idea why."
"Yeah, what could she have against you?"
"I don't know..."
We entered the library and were immediately surrounded by the all too familiar scent of old books and dusty shelves. The most crowded area was always the part of the library without books, ironically. Usually, I'd head to the fantasy fiction section, but today was a day to look at the History of Magic books - as boring as it sounds, that would be the only section which may give us some information about how Lydia could have obtained magic, and confirm why the kiss didn't work.
We walked over to the back, reserved for non-fiction. As I could have predicted, no one was here. Except for Johnny of course, who we saw bent over an enormous book, sitting at a table surrounded by even more enormous books.
I whispered to Uma. "Lydia may have been right about one thing. I don't know how Johnny ended up on the Isle."
"I was doubtful at first - but you can't imagine how nice he is all the time."
"Oh, I can imagine." In fact, I don't need to imagine - I've never seen him act anything but nice, even for the slightest second.
He realized we were there and waved us over.
"How are you both holding up?"
"Decent." We said in unison.
"We ran into Lydia though, and guess what? She's spying on me. She noticed you never left the room last night and came to the conclusion we slept together! I mean, can you believe her?"
He shook his head. "I guess this is what happens when your mom locks you up for (y/a) years."
"I wish I could call Gothel up myself and ask her to take her daughter back," I added with a laugh. Just being with them made me feel better.
"Well, I have some good news and some bad news." Johnny began after Uma and I sat down on either side of him. "I'll start with the bad." He continued.
"That idea you had this morning, that maybe the kiss didn't work since you and Harry haven't kissed yet? There's nothing to back that up - according to the books, if it's true love it's true love, whether you've kissed before or not." My heart sank a bit. Just one more piece of information that proves I'm crazy.
"But, the good news is even better. I haven't found much on it, but there are kinds of powerful magic for which 'true love's kiss' doesn't work. The statement should really be 'true love's kiss, works most of the time.'"
"That's great! But how in the world would she get her hands on such powerful magic? And what undoes it?"
"I don't know how she would have it yet, but there's one thing I've found that can undo this kind of magic."
"And that is...?" Uma urged.
"Other magic."
I know this is redundant, but please remember to vote if you liked this part!
