Chapter Thirty-Two

Start from the beginning

You smiled back at Snow. "Here, let me put in on you," you stood up, picking it up off the table. She sat up straight, looking regal yet sweet. (You didn't think she had a truly mean bone in her body. However, you would definitely need to watch out if you hurt somebody she loved.) You placed it gently around her neck, straightening it out. It looked beautiful, drawing a contrast with her black hair, making her pale skin appear more colored, and adding extra elegance to the plain brown clothing she was wearing.

"Let's test it out, shall we?" you asked. All the lost boys who had attempted to open yours flying through your mind. Literally. You nervously reached out and took the pouch, attempting to pull it open.

The next thing you knew, you were slamming into the wall, sliding to the floor with a groan. What if this pouch would go on to cause you even more hurt than this?

You lay there for a short while, Snow's arm beneath your head and her hand brushing your cheek. Once you got your breath back, you said, "Well, it works, that's for sure." You got up, brushing your clothes off. "Thank you for breakfast, Snow. I suppose I better get going to make sure that Peter isn't into too much mischief."

"Good luck with that!" Snow laughed. "You'll definitely need it."

"That's for sure," you said, smiling at Snow as you headed down the rope ladder. Once you were a short distance away, your shadow met you, informing you that the task was complete and the plan was in motion. Now it was only a short matter of time.

You stayed hidden outside of Snow's tree house for awhile, your shadow watching over the pirate. She stayed inside for about an hour, and then she headed down with the basket she used to collect berries. Undoubtedly you had diminished her store and she needed to collect more. You shadowed her, keeping well out of sight.

She hummed a cheerful tune while she picked. Why Snow was always so happy you had no idea, but she had helped you so many times in the past that you couldn't really complain. Your shadow appeared beside you, giving you a nod, letting you know that now was go time.

Then the pirate rushed out of the bushes, pinning the unsuspecting Snow to a tree. The basket of berries spilled over the ground as Snow struggled futilely to escape the pirate's grip. "Let go of me!" she yelled, but he ignored her, binding her hands behind her, around the tree. You couldn't help but wince as you saw how tightly he pulled the rope.

He grinned evilly, reaching for the pouch, Snow appearing more confused than ever, but relieved since he would remove himself from the equation for her. You held your breath. Now was the moment of truth, the moment where you would find out whether they were actually meant to be together, actually able to break the curse.

The pirate pulled the pouch open, reaching his hand inside and scowling. He felt around hurriedly, then looked inside, but there was nothing to be found. He turned to Snow, holding his sword against her throat, but caught a bit off guard when he saw her gaping mouth and the look of shock in her eyes. "Where is it?" he demanded.

Snow didn't hear a single word he said. "Y-y-you're m-my true love?" she asked, incredulously.

"What?" Now it was the pirate's turn to look confused. "Just give me the kraken ink! None of this nonsense!"

"It isn't nonsense! The pouch, it's enchanted! Only my true love is able to open it without harming themselves! Here, let's find someone to show you," Snow scanned the area rapidly, needing to find someone to confirm what she was saying.

The pirate's eyes were guarded. He obviously believed she was lying in an attempt to throw him off her trail. And yet, a tiny light had flickered into his eyes—hope.

You stepped out from behind a tree and walked towards them. "It's true," you confirmed. "The pouch is enchanted so that only Snow's true love can open it. I made it myself. And I was also the one who sent you the note telling you to open it as I believed you might just be her true love."

The pirate looked from you to Snow several times, trying to make sense of what you had just said, a strange mixture of hope and fury flashing over his face.

You sighed and stepped forward, attempting to get into the emptiness of Snow's pouch and flying backwards for what you hoped was the final time.

Once the pirate saw that, he decided it was time for him to believe. You knew that only Snow's true love would believe so easily, confirming what the pouch had told you. "So, it's true? You are my true love?!"

"Yes," Snow beamed at him. "Yes, I am!"

He smiled back at her and she shifted, hissing as the ropes dug into her flesh. "Oh, I'm so so sorry!" he said, once he realized, hurrying to cut the ropes from her wrists. Snow rubbed them, trying to get her circulation working again. "Allow me," he said, taking them from her and rubbing them firmly but gently. Snow stared into his concentrated face as he did so, smiling slightly. He looked up at her and smiled as well.

Your breath was back by this time and you stood up, going a short distance away, leaving them to their privacy. You wanted them to have this moment all to themselves and you also couldn't stomach the thought of watching it. Not when Snow finding her true love again could hinder your relationship with yours. But you would find a way to mend it, to make everything right; you had to, just as much as you had to break this damn curse. You crossed your arms over your chest, protecting yourself, comforting yourself, from the fears that were attempting to take over. As an added distraction you looked up at your shadow who was flying beside you, turned back to watch the couple for you. It turned to you and nudged you and you looked back, only to see a wave of color expanding from the kissing couple. It hit you and you stumbled back, before falling to your knees as the memories poured in, wave upon wave.
