"What makes you think they'll come around this part of town?" You asked while waving your hand, "I'll stay up with you Looney, but just to keep you from loosing your head."
While it was a lighthearted joke- as you intended to ensure your and her safety in the long run- it seemed to make your friend feel at least a little bit better. This was evident by a tiny nod and unsure grin. That was at least reassuring to you.
"We'll just need to lock up. Do you mind staying out near my desk for a few nights? Just until an electrician arrives in a few days. I just emailed him today and I'm expecting one back."
"Why is an electrician coming?" You questioned lightly as you turned your phone off to put it on the bed.
"I don't know if you've noticed, but the lights have been flickering and turning off an awful lot by themselves. I have no reason why this is so- and my security cam's lights have been tripping the breaker." Luna explained as she turned her head away to look over at the light switch stationed near the door."I guess I haven't noticed," you admitted, "but I'm not that observant either."
"Polar opposites." She commented with a hearty chuckle, which made you return the joyous sound. The evening was settling in, and while you almost had the scare of your life by your best friend you knew it was going to be all okay. Deep down you knew that if you two stayed together and alert nothing could get to you two. Though, you still felt like this was a bit much and you figured Luna was overreacting in the long run, but once she had pointed out that 'overreacting was better than under reacting' and you just figured to apply that logic in this situation. Not too long after some light hearted banter Luna had made a comment about going back to her reports. While you outwardly groaned you agreed just so she could get to bed early tonight, and so you followed her out into the living room with your phone in hand.
"So, are we horror-gaming this and only applying the rules to night?" You asked jokingly as you let your bare feet slide on the wooden floor into the kitchen.
"Sure. Most convicted criminals do their acts at night so they aren't seen by passerby's. By the sounds of these killers they'd most likely do the same, just according to statistics."
You groaned at her drawling on knowledge. As you turned your head over your shoulder to stare at her with the most bored expression you could muster, you locked the leftmost window. "Sometimes I wish you weren't such a smartie."
"Hey! You're lucky I have such an extensive knowledge on criminals and their intentions!"
"Yeah, yeah," you dismissed as you turned to go lock the other kitchen window that was above the sink. "So.. Have you ever filed a suspicious persons report on these people in the B.O.L.O's?"
"No, and that's the baffling part! I've never seen them before, so no one knows who they are in this town... Maybe they don't live here? Or they're really good at hiding their identity." Luna hummed faintly to herself as she got herself situated in her swivel chair. And with that she got to work, work that would possibly cost her hours just so she could hack into peoples phones to crack specific cases. You were thankful you didn't have a job like that."I'mma go lock up all the windows, except the ones you can get, and then I wanna see these B.O.L.O's. Do they have pictures of the people?" You questioned as you made your departure from the kitchen to the start of the hallway.
"Mhm. Only sketches, but they're detailed." She answered loosely, but at least she did lean over to close and lock the two windows beside her.You were quite thankful and then you continued down the hall. Rather quickly you entered the first room on the left and you closed and locked that window with ease- and then this continued with the two bedrooms. The bathroom was skipped due to there being no windows in there and so it was practically pointless. In fact, most things about the bathroom were pointless when you thought on it long enough. Why wasn't there a mirror, you would ask yourself each time you went in only to use a handheld mirror each time. Times after you were done it blanked from your mind so Luna was never informed on your distaste with her interior decoration design.
When you were done with your menial task you returned back to the living area just to plop on the couch. Despite you having to dig the remote from under the cushions each time, it was one of your favorite hot spots to relax on in her house."Are you gonna be nice and let me have volume?" As you dug for the remote you gave her puppy-dog eyes as you asked oh-so politely. This earned a hearty stare from Luna for nothing but a split second.
"Fine. Just not *too* loud, please?" She bargained as best as she could while she returned her deep concentration on her computer screen. This meant conversation was pretty useless, so you just turned on the TV and flipped some channels. It was a clear decision to skip the news channel. There had been too much info thrown at you recently that you ingested with or without your consent, so you settled for some simple dumb cartoon.A few minutes, twenty-two to be exact, Luna lightly perked up in her chair.
"Oh! I forgot, here..." she clicked on a few documents before waving you over. Of course you eagerly got up to see what she had to show you, and you soon realized it was the two B.O.L.O's you asked to see. Seemed like you both got off track, but you were looking at them now and that's all that mattered. The first document was of a guy in some
Sort of dress shirt and tie. It wasn't the most flattering drawing, but it showed defined lips, cheek bones, and eyes on this man. You couldn't help but find him rather unattractive, and you even let out a laugh as you pointed at his ears.
"They're lopsided! He looks like a goblin!"
This resulted in making Luna laugh along with you, but then you took a chance to look at the other guy. The most defining feature was his bald head and a beauty mark on the right side of his face. He had much more intense features, but he didn't look all that threatening with how his eyes were drawn as if they were doll eyes."Wow.. these drawings kind of suck. Or they actually look like that- then I feel sorry for them!" You chuckled again as you headed back to the couch to sit down.
"You know you're talking about wanted criminals, right?"
"Pishah! The first one looks like he'd sell me a house!" You objected with a playful grin, "And his name would be something totally white. Like... David, or Michael."
"I can't say you're wrong," Luna admitted with the shake of her head, "But we need to be cautious still. Whether they are ugly or not."
"What if they're attractive?" You suggested with a teasing smirk.
"Then we still be cautious!" She yelled jokingly, "Gosh, you act like they're gonna sweep you off your feet and make out with you!"Once again, you both fell into banter and laughter when Luna should've been working. It felt nice to be this close and comfortable again, even if it was under very peculiar circumstances. Even then, you didn't mind in the slightest.
Right as she got back to her reports and started filing away at the useless documents she so dreaded the light in the main room flickered until it was officially off. It left you two in pitch black darkness aside from the hallway and the kitchen, but it was still rather eery."Oh. Now I see why you need an electrician." You commented as she stood from her swivel chair.
"It's so bad! I don't even know why it does it." She stated as she walked over to the light to tap it up and down a few times before the light returned to the bulbs.
"Power officially restor-" You barely were able to comment before she put a finger to her lips and hissed a 'Shhhh!!!' Louder than what you were talking. This worked quite well in getting you both to fall quiet, but you were rather perplexed as to why she was making you be so quiet. However, not to disturb her, you went along with her demand and tried to tune in to what she heard.Luna glanced hesitantly around before taking a few steps towards the window closest to the door, and she peered out as if the devil himself were behind the curtains. She reacted like it too, for she let out a startled scream and stepped a few paces back on her hard soled shoes.
"What- what is it?" You asked in a rush as you went over to look out just as she did, but when you did there was no sign of anything abnormal. There was no reply from your friend as she quickly got to her computer to check what seemed to be the security cameras, but you were still too busy peering out into the night and straining to see something you can't.Before you know it, all the lights went out in the building. Or so you assumed, because the living room, the hallway, and the kitchen lights went completely black at the same millisecond. The conclusion you came to was that the breaker tripped.
"Shoot! Oh no, oh no," Luna repeated over and over again until she sounded like she was on the verge of tears. This made you grab onto her arm.
"Luna? Luna? What happened?" You asked frantically as you felt her fingers curl into your shirt as if she was about to fall from her chair.
"I-I saw a man outside! A man who matched the B.O.L.O!"
