"The Avatar will be permitted to continue so long as she solely bends water!" The opposing team voices their opinion about this. "Aww!" I smirk. That smirk quickly goes away as they continue to only go after Korra. "This girl may be the Avatar, but she's no pro-bender and the Platypus Bears are intent on exploiting that weakness! They're giving her their best, and her best ain't good enough to stop it!" She gets knocked off the ring. "Aaaaand she's in the drink." I quickly run over to talk to her and help her, but I get interrupted by a scary sight. Tenzin caught us.
"Oh, hey, Tenzin. I thought you didn't like coming to these matches." I slowly back away into the hallway, attempting to be as quiet as possible. I put my back on the wall, peaking my head around the corner. He abruptly looks behind him. I swiftly put my back on the wall and hold my breath. "Maybe he didn't see me?"
"(Y/n), You get over here this instant."
Damn it.
I slowly come out of the darkness with my head down in shame. Korra is out of the water by now and I go to stand next to her. "Once again, you two have flagrantly disobeyed my orders. You two were to stay on the island! Let's go." He starts to walk away and I step forward. Korra grabs my shoulder and pulls me back. "No! we're kind of in the middle of something." I give a sheepish look. I'm all for breaking the rules, but I'm not trying to get sent back home you know?
"I have tried my very best to get through to you two by being gentle and patient, but clearly the only thing you two respond to is force! So I am ordering you two to come back to the temple right now!" This makes Korra angry. "Why? So I can sit around and meditate about how bad I am at airbending? You know, I'm beginning to think there's a reason I haven't been able to learn it! Because, maybe, I don't even need it!" I give her a look telling her to shut up, but she ignores me. "What? That is a ludicrous suggestion! The Avatar needs to learn airbending! It is not optional!"
"No! This is what I need to learn! Modern styles of fighting!" She gestures to the playing field behind her. "Being the Avatar isn't all about fighting, Korra! When will you learn that?" Korra turns around. "I have a match to go finish."Before Tenzin can say anything else, she walks away. Me and Tenzin stand in silence. After about a minute, I speak up. "I'm sorry for disobeying you. It's just that-" Tenzin cuts me off. "It's just that what? You purposely want to be defiant and go against my rules?" He snaps back angrily. It was my turn to get angry. "Do you really think that's my sole intentions? I was kept away from the real world for years! Excuse me for being curious and wanting to see how the world is like. And plus after today, Korra needed something to cheer her up. Meditating wasn't going to fix her feelings." I snap back at him and fold my arms. I walk away from him before he says anything else and go back to watch the match.
"The Platypus Bears win round two! Round three!"
Bolin blocks two water streams with his earth while Mako blocks water with his fire. The two get pushed to the side of the ring, cornered. "The Platypus Bears come out of the gate and quickly go after the Ferret brothers! They're corralled in the corner, wedged in the edge of zone one, unable to come to the Avatar's rescue! And boy, does she need it!" I clench my hands on the railing. This doesn't look good. Korra keeps getting knocked zone after zone. " Looks like the Avatar's pro-bending debut is going to be cut short! She's been pushed back to zone three, and the water is calling her name!" She is barely on the edge.
"It's only a matter of time before ..."
I cringe and close my eyes, waiting for the announcer to say her fate.
"Hold the phone! Stop the presses! She's still in the game, folks! And she's moving like an entirely different player! All of a sudden, the Platypus Bears' strikes are only striking air!" I quickly look back up, eyes wide. I grin. "Yeah Korra! you're amazing!" I cheer and punch my fist in the air. She is using the airbending technique Tenzin tried to teach her earlier today. The other team looks discouraged and exhausted. The opposing waterbender's stream didn't even make it to the brothers. "The Platypus Bears have no juice left, but Mako and Bolin are still fresh and juicy!" The brothers quickly rejoin the battle. I cheer them on as well. "Lets go Mako and Bolin!"
The team finally moves together, gracefully knocking the opponents into the next zones, and the the water.
"Knockout!"
I jump up and down in excitment. "Woohoo!!"
"The Fire Ferrets come from waaay behind and steal the win! What an upset, folks! The rookies, Avatar in tow, have nabbed a place in the championship tournament! I can not believe it!" Korra's face lights up and Bolin poses, me eye rolling in the process. They then proceed to highfive each other. Mako walks up to Korra and says something, and they both didn't look annoyed with each other.
"well, there's a start." I smirk.
