A New Year To Cherish

You glanced at the wall clock; less than 15 minutes remaining before Light knocks on your door. All of a sudden, you heard the knock on your door. You jumped in response. W-What?! Now?! I-I thought-- 

He knocked again. "(Y/N)-chan! Are you ready?" Light asked from outside your room. You squinted your eyes and rushed to the door, opening it.

"Y-Yes, I-I'm ready!" you replied. 

Your boyfriend's eyes grew wide, and his face turned pink. He scanned you, from your feet up to your head. "(Y-Y/N)-chan..." he said, "y-you look..." He shook his head. He softly placed his hand on your cheek while smiling. "Beautiful. You look really beautiful, (Y/N)."

Both of your faces turned red. You started to shake nervously, making your grip tighter on your bag. You were speechless for a moment, since it was the first time he ever complimented how you look like. Finally, you managed to speak, but in a raspy voice. "T-Thank y-you..."

Light chuckled, taking your hand. "Let's go, shall we?"

You nodded shyly and went off with him.

First, Light took you on a stroll around the streets, now full of bright lights scattered around the place. Snow slowly fell down and rested on the tips of your noses. Quite a lot of people were out, too. Most of them were couples, some of them were families, and some were just friends. The atmosphere felt perfect; happy, gentle, and full of love. No criminals, no policemen, and no Kira. You glanced at Light, who was intertwining his fingers with yours. You giggled softly. 

He looked at you and raised a brow. "Hm? What's so funny?" 

You shook your head. "No, no. It's just that... I've never felt this kind of atmosphere before in my life."

He smiled. "I'm glad you said that, (Y/N)-chan." Then, he pointed straight ahead. "Just a few blocks away until we reach the shrine."

Once the two of you reached the shrine, you had to line up a not-so-long line for your turn to receive blessings.

"Wait here," Light said, letting go of your hand and walking over to a tiny shop nearby. A few minutes later, he came back holding two cups. He offered one of them to you. "It's Amazake."

You accepted the drink and took a sip. "Mm... this is good," you said, sipping some more.

As you were waiting, the two of you were silent, not saying a word to each other that much because you were busy drinking your Amazakes. So, you decided to strike in a conversation. "U-Um, Light-kun?"

"Yea?"

"Uh..." Think fast, think fast! "W-What... time is it..?" Dang it! No! Wrong choice! Baka! Baka! Baka!

He looked at his watch. "It's 9:53. Only 2 hours and 7 minutes left till new year." 

"O-Oh, okay..." you nodded in failure. 

"...You know," Light smirked and turned to face you, "you're really cute when you fail to strike up a conversation," he chuckled.

You blushed. "N-No, I'm not! S-Shut up..." You huffed, crossing your arms. That made him chuckle more.

After moments of waiting and teasing and laughing, the two of you finally had your turn. You bowed, clapped your hands and clasped your hands together so you can make a short prayer. 

Kami-sama, please give me and Light-kun another year for us to cherish, together. That is all I ask for you.

Once you finished, Light glanced at his watch and quickly grabbed your wrist, beginning to sprint. "W-Wait..! L-Light-kun!! Where are you taking me!?" you managed to shout while you were being dragged all the way out. He was not answering, though; he kept on running and running. The farther you went, the less people could be seen. 

"L-Light-kun!!! H-Hey--ow! W-Where are we going!!?" Still no response. He turned left, and entered a tall, empty building. You shrieked and clung onto your boyfriend's back. He then dashed all the way to the top of the building using the stairs. Let's just say that it had almost 10 floors.

When you reached the top floor, Light opened the only door, leading you to a large, spacey balcony. He released you and leaned onto the wall in exhaustion. 

"Well, we're here," he said while catching his breath. You looked around; it was really quiet, since you and Light were the only people in this facility. You walked forward until you can get the best view of the town below. You gazed at the starry sky, and the moon that shone at you.

Suddenly, you felt an arm that was wrapped around you. Of course, it was Light. Your heart started to beat faster.

"Light-kun?" you said after a moment of silence.

"Hm? What is it?"

You looked down, shuffling your feet. "T-Thank you... Thank you very much for this day, Light-kun... You really made me happy..."

He smiled and kissed your forehead. "I'd do anything for you, (Y/N)-chan, just to make you happy." Light then brought out a small (f/c) box from his pocket. He gave it to you. "Open it."

You blushed once more, slowly opening it. Your eyes widened in amazement. It was a heart-shaped necklace made out of real diamonds. "L-Light-kun... T-This is... T-Thank you..."

He took the necklace out of the box and locked it around your neck. "You're welcome, (Y/N)-chan." He sighed as you both watched the starts twinkle in the night. 

"(Y/N)," Light began, "I... want to thank you also for taking care of me, for helping me... and for staying with me. Even though the world is against us right now, you're still with me. You're the only one I know that can understand the me for who I want to be. You're the only one that can make my day better. And... you're the only one I've got. That's why, please don't ever leave my side." 

Hearing that, you were on the verge of tears. Nobody has ever loved you the way Light did, and same goes with Light. "Light-kun, I'd never leave you... We've only got each other. You're the only reason why I'm still here in this cruel world. Don't ever leave my side, too, okay?" A tear ran down your cheek, and then another. You hid your face in embarrassment, but Light pulled your hands away and wiped your tears. After that, he embraced you tightly.

From a far distance, you can hear the faint countdown of the people. "5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

"HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!" 

Colorful fireworks of different sizes were launched into the sky. The people were rejoicing and making lots of noise, greeting each other a happy new year. You and Light caught each others eyes and said at the same time: "happy new year!" 

"I hope that we would have another great year together..!" you exclaimed.

"Same here. Let's make this year a good one for the two of us," he replied. All of a sudden, his face turned red. "U-Uh... (Y/N)?"

You titled your head. "Huh? What?" 

"I-I don't know i-if I should s-say this r-right now... but... I-I.. guess I s-should..." You watched him blushed madly for 10 seconds until he could say what he wanted to say. Light took a deep breath and grasped your shoulders. "(Y/N), aishiteru!!"

Before you knew it, you were blushing madly, too. And, before you could fully proccess what he had just said, you answered the same thing. That made both of you blush like you've never blushed before.

Light took another deep breath and pulled you into a passionate kiss.

"Happy new year, (Y/N)."

OMG! OMG! OMG! YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW MUCH I WAS FANGIRLING OVER THIS! I REALLY DO--*stops and clears throat*--er, like I said, I really do enjoy writing this chappie. I'm sorry again if this took like more than two weeks, cuz, you know, end of semester is coming up and stuff... Yep..

But anyways, I do want to know how you felt about this chapter. Good or bad, I shall accept them both. Please... promise author-chan that you shall stay awesome. Baii, and happy new year once again! (I don't care if this is late! Still, happy new year!)
