It was like a festival except everyone was casual. There was no special event, just stands.
"How'd you find out about this?" I turned to Tanaka in shock.
"I was taking a walk when someone was setting up a stand and bringing everything up here. I came and saw this getting set up. After some searching, I found out it opened yesterday and wanted to bring you." Tanaka led me through the crowd.
"Lucky!"
We walked through crowds and to food stands, trying out everything in sight. I stopped when I saw a kiosk with jewelry on display. Tanaka stood next to me and saw me watching a small bracelet of black orbs.
"Do you want it?" He looked to me and asked.
"I mean it's really pretty but I don't know." I looked at him.
"We have a 50% off special for couples if you'd like to buy." The young woman behind the counter informed us.
"O-oh we're-" I faced the counter and got cut off.
"I'll take one please." Tanaka took the bracelet I was looking at and paid for it.
I looked up to him and he smiled at me. He motioned for me to hold out my hand and I lifted my left hand up. Tanaka slipped the bracelet on my wrist and started walking.
"Wait right here." I told him.
I quickly ran back to the kiosk and looked at the bracelets again. I spotted another of the one I had hidden under a different bracelet.
"Can I get that one?" I pointed to the bracelet styled the same as the bracelet on my hand.
She nodded at me and put the bracelet in a small bag. I gave her the money and put the bag in my pocket. I ran back to Tanaka and started walking with him again.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"Nothing." I winked at him.
I pulled his hand and started going around to different food stands again. There were just so many and it all looked so good.
It got dark soon and the stands started to clear out. I didn't want to part just yet so I sat at a bench nearby. Tanaka noticed and came to sit next to me.
"Thank you Tanaka. I had so much fun today." I leaned my head back and kicked my legs forward.
"Anything for you." He told me.
I smiled a little and looked up at the stars. I closed my eyes in the dim light of the sky.
"Hey, (Y/N)? I have to tell you something." Tanaka looked to the floor.
"Hm?" I opened my eyes and sat up.
"So truth is, when I took you home that one time, you talked in your sleep. You said that you liked me in your dream. I want to know if you actually do." He turned his head to look at me.
My face turned red when I realized what I did. I can't believe he's known for so long.
"I c-can't believe I actually said something.... like that. To answer you, I do like you. I've been hoping that one of these days, this string of ours turns red." I leaned forward and put my head in my hands.
I didn't hear anything except moving. Why wasn't he saying anything?
I felt a pair of hands move mine off my face. Tanaka was crouched in front of me and smiling.
"I'm glad we feel the same. I like you too, been hoping our string turns red too. When it changes to another color my heart drops. Even if the string doesn't say so, which I hope it will, you're still my soulmate. And hopefully, you're my girlfriend?" Tanaka pressed his cheek against one of my palms he was holding.
I couldn't believe it, he felt the same. "Of course!"
I took my free hand and shoved it in my pocket to pull out the bag I had. Tanaka lifted his head to see what it was. I moved my other hand to pull out the bracelet I had bought earlier. Tanaka looked confused when he saw it was one of the same I had but mine was on my hand.
"I bought this earlier for you. I know bracelets aren't really that manly but I wanted us to match," I told him.
He lifted his left hand and I slipped the bracelet on. Tanaka interlocked his hand with mine and lifted it.
"We match!" He yelled with a smile.
I laughed but looked down to our hands. I didn't see a string there anymore and neither did Tanaka. We both started panicking, confused why it disappeared.
I lifted my right hand and saw a string starting to form, red. It connected to his right and we both turned to face each other.
"Hey soulmate," Tanaka laughed.
"Hey"
