Us Two And Them

Chapter 1

"So, how are we suppost to get mom to school? You know the principal wants to talk to her about your grades and the recent fight?"

He was right the principal wanted to talk to our mom today about me. I didn't know how we were going to get her there.

Then there was a knock on the door that took me out of my thoughts. Roman looked up at me.

"I'll answer the door." I told him as I moved to the door. 'Who's knocking on the door this early in the morning'

I made my way to the door. When I opened it, there stood two police officers and a behind them was a woman in a suit. The first police officer spoke. "Is this the home of Linda Martin?" I looked him up and down before speaking. (He was the one who sat infront of me later today.)

"Yes it is and what is your business here?" I had a feeling of why they were here 'what trouble did she get into this time?' I could feel Roman's stares in the back of my head. He had the same feeling I did.

"I'm officer Parker and his name is officer Ryles, your her kids right?" The first police officer said as he looked between me and Roman.

"Yes, now what is your business here?" I was starting to lose my patience. The the second officer spoke up. I think his name was officer Ryles.

"Can we come in? We have something serious to speak to your mother about." I nodded my head and moved out of the way so they could come in. I told Roman wake mom up.

Soon we were standing around the main room. The woman in the suit was taking in her surrounding. She had ginger hair all tucked into a neat bun, her suit was a dark grey and made her look sophisticated. She had bright blue eyes. I watched as they traveled all around the room. The police officers aswell looked around the room as we waited. Then walked out my mom the same way I last saw her in someones t-shirt, trailing behind Roman. Her black hair was all knotty and frizzy. Her face looked lifeless and her eyes blood shot. "What's going on?" She said all groggy.

Her eyes went wide eyed as she realised we weren't alone.

The woman in the suit introduced herself. "Hello Ms.Martin, I'm katty. I'm a social worker and here we have officer Parker and Ryles." She then took a deep breath taking my mothers silence as permission to continue.

"We are here to take Harlow and Roman here down to the station because we recieved a call. They are no longer be in your custody." I just stared at the woman wide eyed. All I could think of was I was gonna end up in a foster home? That me and Roman could get split up.

"I understand" My mother said under her breath. I gasped she gave up that easily. She's not going to fight the same way Dad didn't. I had finally lost all hope for her not that I had any more left.

I pulled Roman into a hug. He just glared at his mother wide eyed. He was emotional one and you could see the tears in his eyes already. My mother just looked down at her feet ashamed.

The both police officers escorted us down the stairs to the car. While Katty stayed to talk to our mom. I looked at Roman and he gave me a known look aswell. As we reached outside we both ran. But it's like they knew what we were going to do because both of them grabbed the back of out tops choking us on the way, pulling us back by the collar. "No running away, were gonna head down to the station and we don't want to do it the hard way. Do we?" Officer Ryles said sternly.

He took our silence as a yes and we got into the car, heading down to the station. Leading us to were we left off earlier.

Back to where we left off..

Present time...

"Just tell us about your mother and we won't send you to juvie. You know we got enough information to send you." He spoke in a fustrated but stern tone.

'He was blackmailing me but even if she was a shit mother I would still protect her. I had to choose my words carefully.' I looked at him then back to officer Parker that sat infront of me. "Theres nothing to tell. You seen it yourself. I don't think you need my help to understand what was happening." It just kept coming out I couldn't close my mouth.

"I know you can't send me to juvie because I still have one more chance and blackmailing me on getting information you already know. Is not very nice is it?"

Then there was a knock on the door Officer Ryles who was already standing up opened it. Katty walked in with Roman behind her. She apologised for interrupting. She gestured her hand for Roman to sit beside me.

He took his spot and held my hand under the table. Katty then began "Since your mother is unfit to take care of both of you. We will place you under a family member or you will be put in the system."

'I can't go back can't' Thats all I could think of, if they even want us. Roman knew about our brothers and he knew I didn't like him. But I didn't know if he had the same feelings as me about it.

"Luckily for you guys your brother has agreed to take you in." She smiled at us. I think she was expecting a more enthusiastic reaction but there wasn't any just a silence. Her smile the turned into a forwn.

The words ringed in my head "Your brother agreed to take you in..."
She began again. Does she not shut up?

"We will bring you back to your home and let you pack, then we will head to the airport."

Well that was the first chapter I hoped you enjoyed. I hope it doesn't seem too boring. I promise it will get better and you will get to see the personalitys of some of the characters and how they act around eachother.
