【?Chapter 8】

Start from the beginning

"I noticed at the restaurant yesterday that you didn't take off your gloves. Tell me. Your left hand wouldn't happen to be a right hand under that glove, would it?" He pointed at Joseph's left hand, causing the old man to be a little more confused. The confusion Joseph was showing spread to me as I was left wondering why he would ask such a question.

"Is my left hand a right one?" He repeated the question to himself as he held both of his hands out in front of him. "You weren't kidding about the bizarre part. What are you hoping to find out through all this?" He asked as he lowered his hands down to his sides once again.

"I'm looking for the man who murdered my younger sister," Polnareff announced in a serious tone.

'Was this guy seriously thinking that Joseph killed his sister just because he wears gloves all the time? Actually, why does he wear gloves all the time? I don't think I've ever seen him without them on,' I thought to myself.

"I don't know his face, but he definitely has two right hands instead of one of each," Polnareff added.

I glanced up at Joseph, eagerly waiting for his response as the subject had piqued my interest. Joseph slowly lifted his left hand and pulled the glove off with his right to reveal that his left hand was entirely made of metal. A prosthetic hand.

"I lost the real thing in a horrible battle about 50-years ago," he said as he wiggled his fingers. My heart instantly sank at the thought of him losing his hand due to a battle that happened so long ago. A lifetime scar to remind him of that time for the rest of his life.

"I apologize for the rudeness, please forgive me," Polnareff apologized as Joseph slipped the glove back onto his metal hand.

"If it's not too painful to talk about, I'd like to know what happened."

Polnareff turned away and started to walk towards the edge of the harbor and looked out at the crisp blue ocean. "It's been three years now. My younger sister and a classmate of hers were walking home from school in the rain. Back in our native, France. It was a country road much like any other. On the side of the road, a man stood with his back to them. Oddly enough, the mysterious stranger was dry. The rain fell in torrent all around him, as if an invisible shell guarded him.

"Suddenly, my sister's friend fell to the ground in a fountain of blood, as if her chest was cut by the wind. My sister was alone. He stole her innocence, and then he killed her. That was all the man wanted. For that, she died.

"Her friend escaped with her life to tell me what she saw the fateful day. She didn't get a good look at their tormentor's face but saw that both of his hands were right hands.

"No one believed the poor girl's testimony about the man. No one except me. I had already been keeping my own strange powers a secret at that point. To me, he sounded like a fellow Stand user," Polnareff ended his story. I frowned at the conclusion of the story, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

"He's a Stand user alright. I'm sure of it," Joseph said.

Polnareff positioned himself into a strange pose close to the floor. "I swore an oath! I promised my sister's soul that I would avenge her death. To hunt down the killer and make him pay with his own life. I would use my own Stand as a tool of righteous vengeance." The Frenchman recomposed himself and stood up straight before continuing his story. "Then, one-year ago, my travels led me to meet DIO." He explained how he came across DIO and was convinced that DIO would help him search for his sister's killer. That was when the Flesh Bud was inserted into his brain.
