"Hey, look, Y/N. Flamingos in flight." I glanced back up at Nori and saw him pointing out the window. My gaze followed where he was pointing and smiled at the sight of a flock of flamingos flying together.
"Oh, wow! That's so cool!" I stared out the window in awe.
"Yare, yare daze..." Jotaro grumbled from beside me.
I glanced over at Nori with a smirk and mouthed, 'Told you so.' Nori rolled his eyes in response.
A few hours later, we got off the train and travelled the final leg of our journey to India by boat.
"So, the Indian leg of our journey is finally upon us," Joseph said out loud. "I'm a little bit worried, though. I mean, is there anywhere to get a cheeseburger there? I've always heard that India was the land of curry, disease and too many people." The older man glanced over at Avdol.
I rolled my eyes. "We're on a 50-day trip to rescue your daughter, and all you can think about is if India has cheeseburgers or not? Talk about priorities." I sighed.
"He does have a point. I'm worried that my stomach won't be able to handle the culture gap," Polnareff agreed, earning himself another sigh from me.
"That assessment is rather distorted, you needn't worry. India's a country of extraordinary people, that I assure you, my friends," Avdol said reassuringly.
Our boat soon arrived at the docks. As soon as it stopped moving and the walkway was placed between the boat and the dock, Avdol opened the metal door. "Well, we've reached Kolkata. Let's get going," said the fortune-teller as he led the way off the boat.
Floods of people swarmed the dock like ants in an ant's nest. The second we stepped onto the docks, hordes of people surrounded us, offering to carry our things and sell us goods at extortionate prices.
Men started crowding around me, offering to take me out for dinner or back to their place. Every time I politely declined; they would offer something else. Eventually, Jotaro stepped in and pushed me behind him. "Leave her alone, otherwise the money you earn today will be used to pay for your hospital bills," he growled, making the men cower away immediately. Jotaro turned to face me and asked, "You okay?"
I nodded in response and tried looking around for Nori. "Where's Nori?"
"Probably caught up somewhere in this crowd. Come on, we'll meet him and the others on the other side." Jotaro took my hand in his and guided me through the crowd. I felt the temperature in my cheeks rise as soon as his large hand was wrapped around mine. I instantly shook it off as nothing but a kind gesture. Either that or Jotaro couldn't be arsed trying to look through the crowd for me should I get swallowed by the sea of people.
Finally, we made it out of the crowd and reunited with Joseph, Avdol, Polnareff and Nori. We all decided to stop at a café to plan out where we would be going from here.
We all sat in the corner of the café, clustered around a small table. I was sat between Jotaro and Nori, listening to drink recommendations from Avdol. "I like the sound of the chai tea," I said. Avdol nodded and ordered our drinks. Joseph had agreed to try the chai tea as well. The waiter returned with our drinks and served them out. As soon as Joseph's drink was placed in front of him, he took a small sip from the cup, letting out a sigh of relief. "See, it's not so bad, is it, Mr. Joestar?" I giggled.
Joseph rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. At least we can get a little bit of peace," he said as he placed his cup down onto its saucer and sat back in his chair.
"Be patient with India. Once you get used to it, you'll see how wonderful this country is." Avdol smiled.
"Y'know, I kinda like this place. It's pretty cool," Jotaro said.
