Chapter 2: training and making progress

"It's a long story," he started, "I've been collecting ghosts around the world these past years and it was wonderful, however the last ghost I caught was number 22, boolouses. And there were many boo's and their king rallied up to take revenge upon me."

Your eyes widened, Boo's? There king? Surely not. You glared at the thought of the king, looking at your hands. "And then w-what happened?" Luigi asked.

"They freed Boolouses and all of my portrait ghosts, and to mock me they built that mansion in a single night."

"H-he's here for me..." you mumbled, looking at the ground, crossing your arms tightly for comfort.

"What was that?" Luigi asked, his ocean, blue gaze fixed on you.

"O-oh, it's nothing, I'm just thinking." You lean onto the angle statue and it moved, its wings slightly flapping, you yelp out in fear as the two males chuckled from your actions, your face heated up in embarrassment. "Anyway," you shook your thoughts away, "shouldn't we go looking in that mansion now?"

"Yes yes, come along now," E Gadd motioned the two to follow him, you and Luigi obeyed and followed him back to the main lab room, "just head up the ladder and go back into the mansion!"

You waved a goodbye to the old man and climbed up the ladder, Luigi following behind, once the two of you got up to the surface and faced the mansion, lightning struck. Luigi looked into your eyes as you nodded, taking his hand and both of you made your way to the front door.

Opening the door, you earned the usual creek and heard crying somewhere, coming from under the stairs, you walked towards the stairs and peeked under, seeing a red toad. "We're did you go mario...?" The toad then turned around to see your soft gaze, he then smiled, "Y/N?" He came out from under the stairs and his eyes sparkled when he saw Luigi, "Luigi too?! You finally made it, thank goodness!"

You gave a questioning look at Luigi, your gaze then turned back to toad, "what are you going here?"

"Me? Well princess peach asked me to go look for Mario when he heard you won a mansion, and never returned," he started to sob a bit, "t-then when I arrived the mansion was full of ghosts! I couldn't see mario anywhere, it's been awful!"

"Don't worry Toad!" Luigi tried to sound brave, "we'll find mario in no time."

You gave a nod in agreement and padded the toad on the head, "yes, we will. Now I think it will be best if you go back to the castle, tell peach what's going on, ok?"

Toad gave a small nod and walked to the door, "G-good luck finding Mario!" He waves good bye before shutting the door behind him, you sighed.

"Well, guess we should take out the ghosts in the Parlor?" You asked, Luigi nodded, you saw him shaking in fear, "don't worry, we'll get through this together."

The two of you entered the parlor, it was very dark and all there was were candles on the wall, glowing purple. There were no ghosts, you picked up the money in the room and got a bad feeling. "W-were are the ghosts?" Luigi asked, you shrugged as you took another look around the room.

"Maybe we should put out the candles?" You asked, "since they only appear in the dark, and there's light here!"

Luigi smiles at your enthusiasm and blowed the candles out, the painting in the middle of the candles shook, you could've sworn that the eyes fixed on you and Luigi.

"Who put out my candles? You Mr. Lime-green?!"

Another voice came from the left wall, "oh dark rooms are dangerous around here, YESSsss..."

"They love the dark and they will get you!"

"Now your in for it!"

"Just like little red cap before you..."

"May you wander lost in the darkness, forever!" You glared daggers are the painting, trying to show no fear, Luigi's eyes spun around at the paintings that talked, sweat dripping from his forehead. "Are you afraid of the dark lovers? Are you!? Blah hah... here THEY are now!"

You yelped in surprise when the door's became shut by thorny vines, a ghost then appears from the sofa, scaring Luigi. You immediately leaped in front of your Crush and stunned the golden ghost, which yelled in pain as you sucked it up, "T-thanks," Luigi huffed, trying time regain himself. You gave a nod in understanding as another ghost appears, Luigi goes up to it, stunning it and capturing it, smiling proudly. You giggled at his actions, causing him to have a light hue of pink on his face, one last ghost appeared and you finished the job. The room lit up, Blinding you, but a chest appeared in the middle of the room. Luigi opened it carefully and picked up a key, you used the GB to scan it? Causing it to detect that the key goes to the room near them.

"We have a lot to get though," you mumbled in annoyance, Luigi sighed as he walked up to the door, there was a basement, two floors, an attic and roof.

Yep, it's going to be a long night...
