"Y'all had like a, uh," he points a finger between the two of them, "an encounter in Target, right?"

Awsten quickly shoots him a glare, hoping it goes unnoticed by Elle.

He doesn't think she needs to know about how he obsessed over her for a month, and even wrote a love song about her, before he'd even spoken to her; Awsten doesn't want to scare her away, and he definitely thinks that would freak her out.

"Oh, yeah," Elle nods, and Awsten her gaze fall to the floor briefly.

She hates their their first - sort of - interaction is tainted by guilt and sadness; she kicked herself everyday for not saying anything to him, and it makes her feel even worse that it's all because she was sad over Alex.

"Kind of crazy that we ended up here after that, though," a tiny smile tugs on the corner of her lips, making Awsten's heart skip a beat. "Pretty lucky, I think."

"I'd say more, unlucky," Jawn comments.

"You're literally, such an asshole," Awsten shakes his head at his smug look, and Elle laughs.

Jawn proceeds to ask her a more questions, before the group end up discussing tour.

They fill him in on the story of how Awsten knocked someone over by throwing a banana outside of a window, causing he and Elle to laugh almost as hard as they did when it happened.

Throughout the conversation, Awsten notices Elle twisting her ring, sliding it up and down her finger; she seems to do it mindlessly, but he thinks it's something that she does when she feels even the slightest itch of nerves.

He first noticed it when they met, and picked up on it again when she came to the first night of the tour in Birmingham; when they all sat together in the green room, she'd allow other people's conversations to take priority, quietly listening, while fiddling with her jewellery.

Awsten isn't sure why she's nervous, and he doesn't want her to feel nervous; he thinks that maybe it's to do with meeting new people.

The habit seems to be a comforting distraction for her, and for some reason, Awsten finds it terribly endearing.

"Hey, I'm just gonna go to the bathroom," Elle places a hand on Awsten's bicep, speaking more to him than anyone else. "I'll be back in a second," she excuses herself from the conversation.

"Okay," Awsten hums, smiling softly as he watches her figure disappear down the hall.

"Why the fuck is she friends with you?" Jawn laughs, and Awsten snaps back to face him. "She's so nice."

"Shut up, oh my god," he groans.

"Okay, okay, but," Jawn turns to him, propping his elbows up on the kitchen island, "what colour is she?"

"Huh?" Awsten's eyebrows dip together, as he looks back at him

"Does she have one?" Jawn questions

"Not one colour, really," Awsten shrugs, but Jawn gives him a look to continue. "What?"

"Oh, come on," he throws his arms up dramatically. "I've literally been fucking dying to ask you this question, as soon as I saw you look at her."

"What do you mean?"

"Don't think I miss those glances across to her," he retorts. "I'm not stupid, or blind, I'm watching you like a hawk," Awsten rolls his eyes at him. "So, colours."

"I don't know," Awsten lets out another groan. "There's a few, I'm not sure."

"Okay, so explain the few," Jawn ushers him to continue. "I need to know."

"You don't need to, you're just fucking nosey," Awsten smirks lightly in response.

"Awsten," Jawn glares.

"Okay, okay, um," he pauses for a moment, trying to untangle his thoughts into a sentence.

"Her song is green - really green. Not the same kind of green her eyes, though; her eyes are like, almost green- they're brown and green, and hazel, but there's like specs of blue around the edges- I think they change colour in the sunlight, and depending on her mood, too."

Awsten takes a deep breath, trying not to ramble too much, though he knows that's probably inevitable, and he avoids Jawn's gaze.

"Sometimes when I catch her looking at me, she's peach-"

"Like the song?" Jawn questions, quickly, and Awsten nods.

"Reminds me of this line in the song, but- no, not important, anyway," he waves off the thought, about to lead him off track slightly. "At the shows, she was purple Purple and glittery. I think that's just her with music, in general," he muses, suppressing the smile that tugs at the corners of his lips, thinking about looking up into the crowd, seeing her dancing and singing along. "But when she was sad - she was crying - and she was blue, but also red. She's red when she talks about him, it's like she's angry underneath, but she doesn't realise it. And it's just bubbling, but she wants-"

Jawn coughs loudly as he catches sight of Elle returning

"Was there any need for that?" Awsten watches as Elle rejoins them, laughing at Jawn's fake coughing.

"Should I even ask?" She looks to Awsten, with eyebrows raised.

"Absolutely not," he shakes his head in dismissal.

"Oh, any news from Geoff yet?" Jawn speaks up after a moment.

"No, not yet," Awsten responds, before looking to Elle, who's giving both of them an odd look. "What?"

"What would you be getting news from Geoff about?" Her eyebrows dip together.

"Did you fucking forget to tell her?" Jawn rolls his eyes at Awsten, and his mouth gapes, realising that it must've slipped his mind. "Geoff and Chloe are having a baby," Jawn says, casually, "like, now."

"They're what?" Elle's eyes widen, as the two of them nod. "Why didn't you tell me?" She questions, forcefully, as she slaps Awsten's arm lightly.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry, okay? I forgot," he defends, blushing slightly.

"I can't believe you," Elle tries to frown, but she looks at Awsten for a moment longer and the expression melts away, replaced by a soft smile.

Usually, when he's with Elle, the moment that they're in is all that's on Awsten's mind, and it's hard to think about much else, which is why he must have forgotten to relay the information to her - but he can't really use that as an excuse, can he?
