"you were supposed to have it checked, whatever." he mumbled under his breath as he began attach my mic back onto the stand in between us.
i reached towards my mic to snap it back in and he did too, our hands briefly touching before he let go, letting me do it before walking back to his spot.
i ignored this whole situation, for if i hadn't, i'd be freaking out right now thinking about how my problem had delayed soundcheck. i released the weird weight off my chest as the band continued playing as normal, timothée and harry beginning to sing again.
two, i thought as i watched. a very straight forward band name, don't you think? kind of a dumb name, if i'm being honest. why was i intimidated by a band named two.
i kept my mind distracted throughout soundcheck, focusing on my lines rather than the two intimidating boys whos time i had just wasted. the time had went by quickly, the next thing i know everyone's getting ready to leave.
as i packed my water bottle back into my bag, kayla and emily had approached me.
"don't sweat it, that always happens." emily said, which i knew was a lie to calm me down. i nodded at her as i swung my bag over my shoulders.
"oh and don't worry if you can't sleep today, we all didn't sleep on our first night joining the team." kayla said in a suspicious tone while emily shook her head with a laugh.
we all headed out, and it seemed like kayla was hinting at something. i felt so dumb when i tried to think about what she meant by we all. did she mean her and emily? the whole band? was she including timothée and harry?
the two girls walked together and i trailed behind them before i heard emily let out a curse word as she looked at kayla's bag."i forgot my bag." she mumbled, looking back at the way we came from, and front again to see that we were already at the exit.
"i'll get it." i offered, causing her to slow down as the group of staff began to lead ahead of us.
"no no it's okay! i'll pick it up tomorrow in the morning—the cars are waiting for us outside already." she said.
yeah no, i rejected the idea of sitting in a car placed with the people i had just embarrassed myself in front of. i'd much rather call a cab and go back on my own, avoiding any social contact possible.
"i was gonna walk around the area a bit anyways, really it's fine—you guys can go without me." i said nicely, a smile remaining on my face as i hoped she'd just agree and nod.
she looked at the group that was far now and back at me as she sighed, "fine, i owe you one!" she said before she began to catch up with them.
i turned my back towards them as i heard everyone chat as they walked, heading back to the main stage.
i mean walking around the area wasn't a bad idea, maybe i'll follow through with that plan
i traced my steps back to where we were before. i entered from the side of the stage, spotting emily's white bag as it sat there alone.
i caught my breath as i walked up the little step before reaching it, holding it up with two hands. i placed one of the straps over my right shoulder before starting my way back to the exit. the whole trip probably took ten minutes, seeing that i took my time and strolled along, making sure that when i got outside i'd see no cars.
