"We have already completed the autopsy, and everything has been put away." Ducky replied, almost annoyed. I walked in, repositioning Ellie so she sat on my other hip. When Ducky turned around and saw it, he gasped softly. "Who is this?" He asked, approaching us, and wiggling his fingers at Ellie.
"This is, Taylor." I said, bouncing Ellie one on my hip. Tony and I had agreed that, should anyone find Ellie, we would say that she was named Taylor, and that she was, "My half-sister. I'll be lookin' after her for the next few days."
"She's adorable."
"Where Ducky?" Ellie asked, looking around.
"Right here," Ducky said waving.
"You no Ducky. You hooman."
"Oh, Ducky is my name." Ellie nodded, and looked up at me. She smiled.
"Hi," She said.
"Hi," I agreed. I set her down, and let her cling onto my leg. "I have a question Ducky."
"Alright, what is it?" Ducky asked, walking around.
"What can a 2 year old eat?"
"Well, practically anything you can, to put it simply. With the exception of items you have to chew a lot or are easy to choke on."
"Perfect, thanks Ducky. We're going to go and get some food."
"Any time Abby. Bye Taylor."
"Bye bye!" Ellie said back, taking my hand and waving using her other one.
"Bye bye," Ducky replied, waving his fingers back at us.
"Alrighty Ellie," I said as I laid her down in her bed. "Do you want a story, or a song or... what?"
Ellie shrugged, and clutched her teddy bear close to her. "How 'bout a storwy?"
"Okay, what book?"
"Fox eh socks." Ellie decided.
"Alright," I agreed. "Where's that book?"
"I no no." Ellie said shrugging again. "Dada put it dere." She replied pointing to a bookcase. I nodded, and started looking for the book. "Ab- bee? Where eh dada?"
"He's working."
"I wan dada."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah." Ellie agreed. "I-I-I- I miss 'im."
"I know Ellie, I know. He'll be back soon. I promise." Ellie sniffed a few times and started softly crying again. "Oh, Ellie." I said sympathetically, picking her up again. "I know. I know you miss him. He'll be back soon though. I promise."
But it did nothing to soothe her. "What if we call him?" I offered.
"Wha?" Ellie asked, sitting a bit in my arms, and leaving a wet spot on my shirt.
"What if we called him, and you can talk to him?"
She just nodded.
"Let's call your dad then." I shifter Ellie onto my other hip, and pulled my phone out of my pocket. I hit the 3 on the speed dial, and listened to the rings.
Tony's P.O.V.
My phone started ringing, and I looked at the caller's ID. It was Abby. My heart dropped. "I have to take this. I'll be back." I walked outside, stared at a lizard for a second, before picking up the phone. "What's wrong? Did something happen? How's Ell-"
"Honestly Tony, nothing happened." Abby interrupted. "Both she and I are completely safe, fed, and uninjured."
My heartbeat steadied as I breathed a sigh of relief. "Wassup kid?"
