The snapping of a twig broke me out of my reverie, throwing me back into the real world much faster than I would've liked.

"Who's there?" I called out, my dry voice cracking.

"Me," the British accent that I knew and adored caused me to relax and reached to the nearest branch to pull myself up.

I stopped at the first strong branch and waited for him to pull himself up.

Newt's blonde hair peeked through the trees, followed closely by a smile that made my heart melt.

"I thought that you weren't going to come," I whispered.

Newt grabbed onto the lowest hanging branch and pulled himself up, "why would I do that?"

I shook my head and looked out. The moonlight broke through the branches, creating a beautiful and scary scene at the same time. There was just enough light to see.

He pulled himself up and sat down next to me on the branch.

"You okay?" Newt looked at me with concern.

I nodded, "just in shock."

"I shouldn't have left you with him."

I leaned over and rested my head on his shoulder, "I can't be protected from everything. Only obvious dangers that I'm too stubborn to back out of."

"The-" Newt started.

"Don't even start on that," I warned. "I'm going to be a runner and the only thing that could stop me is more injuries."

Newt laughed, "I knew you were going to say that. When do you start training?"

I sighed, "tomorrow, I think."

An arm snaked around my waist and pulled me closer to him.

"I'm surprised that you haven't pulled that knife on me yet."

I leaned my head on Newt's shoulder and a smile spread across my lips. It disappeared as I looked out of the woods and into the Glade. Memories were there, good, bad, and ones that I wished never happened. Why couldn't I just be a normal person?

"Why is everything seeming so confusing to me?" I asked.

"It's the early Greenie," he said it too fast, too rushed to seem true.

"That's not true," I sat up and stared at him. My eyes bored holes in Newt's head. "You're not telling me something."

Newt sighed frustratedly, "First of all, no Greenie has ever been sent up with a knife, or weapon of any kind. Second, Gally wasn't actually stung. He never even went in the maze at all that day. He isn't a runner anymore. Hasn't been for at least a month."

Tell him, my mind shouted at me, tell him the truth!

But, something held me back from telling him that Gally and Thomas were being controlled by some unknown force. I bit my tongue and looked forward, keeping my eyes as far from Newt as I could get them, knowing that if I looked into his deep brown eyes I would spill the one secret that I had to keep from him and everyone else.

I sucked in a deep breath, fighting to hold back the truth, and turned to Newt.

Before I could open my mouth to speak, my stomach growled, loudly.

"Hungry much?" I felt face go red as Newt laughed.

"Maybe a little," I squeaked.

"Come on. The kitchens are open for raiding! Just don't tell Frypan," he added the last part in a whisper.

I laughed, "what will he do? Poison our food?"

"Worse," Newt gulped.

The look on his face sent me into hysterics, I was bent over laughing with tears running down my face.

"Why do you think that's so funny?" Newt demanded in a toddler type of way.

That only made me laugh harder. The next thing I knew, I was falling forward. Unable to regain my balance, I grasped the branch by my fingertips, slowing down my fall.

Luckily the ground was only a few feet below the branch, making the fall less dangerous.

"You okay?" Newt called down from the branch.

Something about how he said it or the fact the fact that I just fell out of a tree seemed hilarious to me. And there I lay, on the ground, dying laughing.

Newt scrambled down the tree as fast as his limp would allow him and hurried over to me.

"You shank!" He yelled as he pulled me up.

"You... Look..... Hilarious," I gasped, tears still gathering in the corners of my eyes.

I broke into another laughing fit, but managed to keep myself standing that time.

Newt looked at me as if I were crazy, "you're starting to scare me," he mumbled, just barely audible. "Come on, we won't have much time."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm going to start off by saying I'm sorry for taking forever to update😁😁😁
Please don't hurt me.
I had a basketball tourney this morning and my week is already crazy enough.
Good news:
Our team did pretty good for it being our first game of the season. We won the first one like 17 or 18-10 which is pretty good for us(which is actually amazing saying that the team we played against had already played 10 other games and that was our first). My coach, who kinda scares the crap out of me, didn't yell at me and she actually complemented me on my defense, so that's really good.
I have the whole day off tomorrow because we aren't doing anything for the Super Bowl other than staying home and watching it. I might get another chapter up by tomorrow night.
Bad News:
I'm probably going to be able to update once or twice a week from now until the end of the basketball season. During the week, except Wednesday and Friday , I won't be able to work on my fanfiction at all because I have basketball games Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
I don't know if this would be considered bad news, I'll have to wait it out. Where I live, Indiana, is about to be hit with a pretty big snowstorm for how this winter has been going for us. We are supposed to get up to a foot of snow overnight and that means either 1) we lose power which means no 抖阴社区 or any of that stuff or 2) if it stays long enough, I might not have school on Monday!!! Let's hope it's the second thing.
I might be annoying you guys with all of my chattering (I think you can call it that), so I'm going to be quiet now.
Please comment on the chapter, it was kind of a long stretch because I typed half of it on like Monday and the other half minutes ago.
Bye!!!!!!
