'Looks like no one noticed me place a bit of chocolate under the glass when I said I wanted to inspect the coins and glass,' D'Arby's voice echoed through my mind. I chocked slightly and quickly covered it up by clearing my throat. Why would he do that? What was he trying to achieve by placing a bit of chocolate under the glass? I continued to listen to his thoughts to see if I could find out more about what he was planning. 'When the time is right, I will move out of the sun's rays by saying that I want to have a look from another angle, that way the chocolate will melt as I'm placing my next coin in which will bring the liquor to reach the point of spilling.'
I clenched my jaw as soon as I heard his plan. He really was a good-for-nothing cheater. Part of me wanted to stop the game, but I knew full well that I would end up blowing my cover and possibly cause Joseph to meet the same fate as Polnareff.
Whether I tried to stop the game or not, there was one thing I was certain of, and that was Joseph was done for.
"You've got nerves of steel for putting five coins in at one," Joseph commented after D'Arby placed the five coins into the glass, causing the liquor to swirl around in the glass. "I think I'll go with one coin. It's too close for call," Joseph said once the liquor settled, and he picked up a coin from the table. He held the coin over the glass and slowly lowered it onto the surface of the liquor.
I was able to catch a glimpse of a piece of cotton between Joseph's finger and the coin and squeezed some liquid into the glass.
"And he told Jotaro to watch out for cheating," Scarlet Phantom commented in my head; I could hear the smirk in her voice.
Finally, Joseph dropped the coin into the glass and watched it sink to the bottom.
"Man, that was a close one. I thought it was going to spill for sure!" Joseph relaxed slightly and sat back in his chair. "Well, it's your turn. Good luck, Obi." He grinned and held a hand out for D'Arby to shake.
The gambler grabbed the old man's wrist and scowled at him. "It's D'Arby. Don't make me say it again. I told you my name is D'Arby, understand? Not Obi, not Barbie," he growled.
"Apologies." The corner of Joseph's mouth twitched up slightly as D'Arby released his grip on Joseph's wrist. D'Arby picked up the bar of chocolate and took a bite from it. "So, what do you say we keep playing? I believe it's your turn to drop a coin, D'Arby."
D'Arby got out of his seat and walked to the side. "The shadow makes it difficult to see from here. I'll lower the coin from the right side of the table," he said.
"Drop it in from whatever angle you want," Joseph said and folded his arms over his chest as D'Arby picked up a coin from the table and hovered it over the glass.
"You're probably thinking that the glass has reached its limit. That dropping another coin would be impossible. Well, you'd be wrong about thar." He smirked and dropped the coin into the glass.
"There's no way! How the hell did he do that?! Why didn't it spill?!" Joseph exclaimed as he jumped to his feet and looked at the glass in disbelief.
"Your questions confuse me. What do you mean by 'why didn't it spill?' You saw the result with your own eyes." D'Arby raised an eyebrow.
Joseph looked over his shoulder at Jotaro with wide eyes.
"As far as I know, he didn't do anything devious," Jotaro said.
A sense of guilt washed over me like a tsunami going over a small island. "This isn't fair..." I muttered to myself as I looked down at my feet and clenched my jaw.
