Kate came over to the both of us, holding two rocks in her hands. "Hey Leah, hiya Jack. I have a present for you two." She held out the rocks to us. "Here, ... Have some blue." She said half-smiling. "It starts off clear, and as you hold it, it absorbs all of the sad and turns blue." Jack and I took the rocks, and held them for less than two seconds before they were both deep blue.
"Oh gosh," Kate whispered, seeing them. "It's okay, oh, guys don't cry." She insisted, hugging us a bit awkwardly. "I'll get you guys some more blue."
Kate and everyone else left Jack and I at Brocks grave about half an hour later. Jack and I were going to do the headstone. "Did you end well with him?" Jack asked me in a mutter.
"I think so. My last words to him were 'orange juice is an abomination to society.' so, it's really up to Brock I think. What about you?"
"My last words to him were 'just ask her.' You'll never guess who the her was."
"Me?"
"Yup."
"What did he need to ask me?" I asked, generally clueless. "He would want you to tell me."
"I know. He- he was going to ask you to go to the black and white ball with him." My eyes got wide, and -somehow it was possible- more tears came.
"I would've said yes." I replied quietly, fiddling with my hands.
"I know you would've. That's what I was telling him."
"I'd've said yes if you'd asked me too you know." Jack chuckled.
"I'd've loved to ask you." Silence for a second. "What dress were you going to wear?"
"The one my mum wore to her black and white ball. Ankle length, poufy, covered in white sparkles that look like stars. White heels with black sparkles, and white tassel earrings." I replied with a half-smile.
"You've put some thought into it."
"Yeah I have. I'd been planning for the black and white ball since freshman year. I was really excited about it."
Jack's P.O.V.
Anna and I were quiet for another minute before I felt Brock's spirit punch me in the shoulder.
She'd been preparing for that night for at least a year. If you don't take her to that dance I'll never forgive you. The words were soft, probably not really there, but I heard them.
"Can I ask you to it? I know you already said you'd say yes if I did but I don't know if there are new boundaries after Brock and all."
"Jack, of course you can. And yes, I will. I would love for us to go together."
We smiled at each other, and she wrapped her arms around my neck. My arms went around her waist, and I inhaled the faint sent of her coconut shampoo.
"Oh, sorry." Anna said embarrassed after about 2 minutes later, standing up straight again, and wiping the tears off of her face. "I shouldn't be crying on you. I shouldn't be crying at all. My grandparents insist it's a sign of weakness. Something to be avoided."
"Crying is how your body speaks when your mouth can't explain the pain you feel." I replied, walking forward, and embracing her again.
"How have neither of us passed out yet?" I asked, trying to get my voice steady again.
"I-I-I dunno. But-I-I'm not sure it's a good thing." Anna replied, still somehow wetting my suit, and me still somehow wetting her hair. I hugged her again.
You two. I heard Brock say in exasperation. I love you guys. And I felt someone else add to our hug.
Anna's P.O.V.
You two. I heard a familiar voice say in exasperation. I love you guys. And I felt someone else add to our hug. But no one was there. But I knew who it was. And that just made me shake harder. Cry harder. Made my head pound harder.
Hi Brock.
Hi there Anna.
You're still here?
Yeah.
Are you ever-
No. Anna I'll never leave you. I'll always be here when you need me. Or when you don't. Even when you're just pissed off, or happy, scared, or sad, or anything. I'll be there.
Okay.
Is that alright?
Perfectly.
Jack's gonna take care of you now alright?
Okay.
Are you okay with that?
Perfectly.
...
I'm sorry I couldn't take you to the dance. Brock's voice said sadly.
It's ok
Save me a dance?
Always.
"Anna?" Jack asked. And it was a real voice. Well... Brock's voice was real too. And no one can tell me any different.
"Yeah?"
"I love you."
I inhaled shakily. "I love you too."
...
...
...
"Do you want to talk about the headstone?" I asked a few minutes later.
"Sure," Jack agreed, letting go of me after a moments hesitation.
"What should it say?"

Too soon"Jack?" I said, with the tears, the shaking, and the salty face again.
"Yeah?"
"Can- can I stay with you tonight? Please?"
"For however long you want." Jack agreed. And the three of us left. Hand in hand in hand.
Totally stole the Kate thing BTW
I love you guys! <3
