Chapter X: Unforeseen

Start from the beginning

(L/N) bit his lip. Wasn't USJ already taken by Universal Studios Japan? It almost made him laugh. Perhaps Thirteen should have thought of a better name.

"Before we begin, let me just say one thing." Thirteen said. "Well, maybe two things. Possibly three. Four? Five?"

(L/N) let out a frustrated breath. She should just get on with it. No doubt it would be another speech meant to inspire the class. Some garbage along the lines of how they were the next generation of heroes and it was up to them to save the world. No one ever bothered mentioning just how hard, or dangerous, that could be. How dangerous they could be.

"Listen carefully." She finally began. "I'm sure you're aware that I have a powerful quirk. It's called Black Hole. I can use it to suck up anything and turn it into dust."

"Yeah," Midorya said excitedly while Ururaka nodded enthusiastically next to him, "you've used Black Hole to save people from all kinds of disasters, haven't you?"

"That's true." Thirteen confirmed. "But my quirk could also very easily be used to kill. Some of you also have powers that can be dangerous. In our superhuman society, all quirks are certified and stringently regulated, so we often overlook how unsafe they can actually be."

(L/N) looked up, surprised.

"Please don't forget that if you lose focus or make the wrong move, your powers can be deadly. Even if you're trying to do something virtuous like rescue someone. Thanks to Aizawa's fitness tests, you have a solid idea of your quirk's potential. And because of All Might's combat training, you likely experienced how dangerous your powers can be when used against other people. Carry those lessons over to this class. Today, you're going to learn how to use your quirks to save people's lives. You won't be using your powers to attack enemies or each other, only to help. After all, that's what being a hero is all about. Ensuring the safety of others. That's all I have to say. Thank you so much for listening."

The class cheered. (L/N) remained silent. Everything she had said. Everything she had just told them. She understood. She understood what he thought no one else did. That quirks were dangerous. That they were dangerous. That they all had the potential to kill if they lost focus, even for a second. He thought it had all been a joke. That no one took it seriously. But this hero, Thirteen, she saw in them what no one else had; potential. Not just the potential for greatness, but the potential for destruction. She had drawn him in by demonstrating her understanding of the dangers they all posed, and he had actually been captivated by her speech. It stirred something inside of him. Some newfound sense of conviction.

"After all, that's what being a hero is all about. Ensuring the safety of others."

By controlling your power. For the first time he felt like he might actually be able to do it. Control his power. Master his quirk.

Be a hero.

"Right." Aizawa said. "Now that that's over..."

He stopped mid-sentence. Thirteen and the students looked at him confusedly. Why had he stopped speaking? They hadn't sensed it yet. The thing that Aizawa had. The thing (L/N) had. While the others waited for him to continue, (L/N)'s head twitched slightly from one position to the other as his ears picked up on the warning sounds coming from the building. The crackling of electricity, the sputtering of the fountain, and finally an ominous 'whoosh' that caused the atmospheric pressure to change ever so slightly.

"Stay together and don't move!" Aizawa shouted. "Thirteen, protect the students!"

"Whoa, what is that thing?" Kirishima asked, taking a step closer to the stairs that lead down into the USJ.
