I woke up alone. Bucky was gone, and the mid morning sun was glittering over the still dewy lawn of the compound. Alpine was snuggled into Bucky's pillow next to my head. Steve's pillow was barren.

My feet hit the floor, and I wondered downstairs to find either of them. Steve, to confront him. Bucky, to make sure he was alright.

I found them in the training room. The air was thick with tension. Bucky was in his running clothes, and Steve was beating into a punching bag.

They seemed to have been mid conversation when I walked in. Bucky looked at me and sighed. He held his arms open, wanting me to hug him.

I did, burying myself into his side and watching Steve's anger burn as he kept hitting the bag over and over. Finally, it flew off it's chain and slammed into the floor.

Steve turned to us with a scowl. "So, when do you leave?" He asked.

Bucky huffed a laugh in disbelief. "Are you really going to do this?"

"Do what? Ask my fiancés when they're leaving me to go on an extended vacation for God knows how long?"

"You are so full of yourself," Bucky said. His voice was already overwhelmed with emotion.

Steve shook his head and grabbed another punching bag, hanging it on the hook.

I reached my hand forward, as if to reach for him. He looked at me, but didn't move. "Steve," I said softly, "we aren't like you. Bucky needs to heal. His memories are eating him alive. My powers are growing out of control. We need a break from this."

"And what am I supposed to do?" He asked me.

"Come with us," I said firmly. "You don't always need to be in the middle of every fight. You're human; you need a break as much as we do."

He laughed and rolled his eyes. "I'm not me without this," he said. "If you knew me, you'd know that."

My eyebrows pinched together. Anger rose through me again, and I knew Bucky sensed it. His hand tightened on my shoulder. "Why are you being such an asshole? Is it because I'm not Peggy fucking Carter? Because I don't want you to work yourself to dust? Because I won't stand by and watch it happen?"

Steve stared at me for a long time. "Yeah," he breathed. "You're nothing like her, and you never will be."

"Oh, fuck you," Bucky nearly shouted. His hand around my shoulders dropped, and he stormed towards Steve. They were inches apart from each other, both scowling and furious.

"You know damn well Stella loves you more than anything, and all you're doing is pushing her away because you're hung up on Peggy. She moved on. She got married. She had kids. She's dead. Get over it," Bucky sneered.

Steve stared at him for a moment before shoving him harshly. Bucky stumbled, so I used my magic to catch him. "Steve," I screamed. "What the hell?"

He glared at us with an intensity I had never seen from him. His thoughts were incoherent and wild. "Leave. I don't care where you go, how long you're gone, or if you ever come back. Leave."

I crouched beside Bucky. His eyes were glossy and glazed over. He stood, pulling me with him. "I hope Peggy Carter and the fucking Avengers are worth it," Bucky sneered as he ripped off the wedding band Steve had given him and threw it on the floor.

Bucky started to pull me along, but I stopped him. Steve and I stared at each other for a moment. "You swore to me you'd never lose him," I said.

"Leave," is all Steve said as he turned back towards the punching bag and began training again.

Fury burned deep in my heart. My mind melted into Steve, and I gathered every happy memory of Bucky and I that Steve had and forced them to his consciousness.

His hands flew to his head, overwhelmed by my magic. Swiftly, I turned to Bucky and pulled him out of the training room.

"What did you do?" He asked, alarmed.

"I made him remember us."

Bucky didn't answer, but he understood. We walked up to our room. Bucky slammed the door behind us and moved to pull our luggage from the closet.

I stopped him. My hand held his wrist. He stared at me.

"I have an idea," I said. I felt crazy to think this would work.

His eyebrows pinched together in confusion, but he trusted me. He nodded and dropped the bags. "What are you thinking?" He asked.

I laughed, "I don't know. I don't know if this will work." Hesitantly, I walked to the door and traced my fingers along the frame. "Grab Alpine," I told Bucky.

She protested as he gathered her in her arms and held her against his chest.

Soft light began to gather along the doorframe as I pictured my cottage. The salty air of the ocean, the scent of dozens of herbs, cliffsides and rolling hills, the lazy fire, worn books, velvet chairs, and stained glass.

Except, I wasn't pulling only our minds there. I was making that island a reality. I was making it real. I was moving Bucky, Alpine, and I to be there phycially.

The door of our bedroom became the front door to my cottage, and if I tried hard enough, I could make that door lead back to the compound.

With enough effort, I could bring us back on a whim. If we tried, that front door would open into the hallway of the compound instead of out to the island.

Exhausted, I sighed and looked behind me. Bucky was standing bewildered and clutching Alpine to his body. He was staring at me with his mouth agape.

His eyes blinked several times. "Doll," he breathed, "what did you do?"

"Well," I didn't know how to explain it, "this is the island my mom made for me for my birthday. I wanted you to see it, and I'm happy that worked. Look," I opened the front door, and there was the island. I closed it again, opened it, and we were back in the compound.

Confusion rippled across his features. "Stella," his voice faded away. "You're so incredible." A grin took over his face, and he stepped towards me.

Our lips fell together, and Alpine chirped between our chests. I smiled up at him. "I can't believe that worked," I breathed.

"Why wouldn't it?" He asked. "You're a goddess."

I blushed and took his hand, "Come on. There's so much I want to show you."

We walked through the cottage, and I showed Bucky the sitting room with it's fireplace and sparkling embers. The small kitchen, wall of draughts, and pantry that never seemed to be empty.

There was the study room and it's attached library. The back door that led through the garden. Our new bedroom with a soft bed and skylight. The clothes we had in the compound had made their way into the closet of the cottage.

I led Bucky down to the beach where we kicked the clear water, walked up the cliffsides, and admired the expansive forest on the northside of the island.

He looked amazed at every turn, asking questions and telling me he can fix that wobbling table. Oh, how about I build a walkway down to the beach? This fence post is crooked, but I can fix it.

My heart swelled. He was so happy. His thoughts echoed nothing about Steve and the fight. All he thought about was all the projects he could busy his hands with instead of fighting. He wanted me to show him how to make herbs. He wanted to read my books. He wanted to live his life.

I was happy. He was happy. We were happy.

When we stepped back inside, we sat at the stools near the kitchen island. Bucky took my hand in his and stroked his thumb over my knuckles.

"I love you," he said. "I love you more than anything, Stella Barnes."

I laughed and rolled my eyes. "I love you too, husband."

"Why?" He asked with a laugh. "I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm over the moon that you love me, but damn Stel. You're a goddess. And I'm," his voice trailed off, unable to find a word to describe himself.

"You're James Bucky Barnes, and you're my husband, and I love you more than life itself," I supplied.

His eyes rolled. "Sure, doll," he teased as he leaned over to kiss me once more. "So, will I be able to open the door and make it go to the compound? Or just you?"

I hummed, "I think you should be. That sort of magic is more will than anything. If you clear your mind and let your mind do its job, it should work."

"Can I try?" He asked.

So he did, and it worked, and he turned to me as if his eyeballs would pop out of his head. There was a wide grin plastered on his face as he looked at me with disbelief.

I kissed his cheek, "You're a wizard, Bucky."

"Shut the hell up," he groaned. "What is that from? Harry Potter?"

"Wow," I teased, "look at you Mr. Pop Culture!"

His eyes rolled, and he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close to his chest and peppering kisses over my cheeks. "You're so annoying," he mumbled.

I grinned up at him. His eyes were so full of life and happiness. I was estatic that I could give this to him. That our worlds had finally been able to merge.

Goddess, Loki's voice was suddenly loud in my thoughts. Where are you?

I didn't know how to answer that. Bucky was watching my face. "You okay?"

"Yeah, Loki asked where I was, and I don't actually know how to tell him where we are."

He laughed, "I don't know how to help you, angel."

Uh, I'm at my cottage, but I kind of made my cottage exist physically. Come to my room. I'll open the door and show you.

Confusion rang as his only response, but he was walking towards our door. I was able to sense him from the other side, so I willed the door back to the compound.

The windows dimmed, and I opened the front door. Loki was staring at me with pinched eyebrows. "Goddess, how the hell did you do this?"

"I have no idea," I admitted. I pulled him inside and forced the island back to normal. The windows brightened again, and the gentle crash of ocean waves filled the air.

Loki looked around, and his eyes settled on Bucky. "Fancy seeing you here."

Bucky rolled his eyes and settled back in his stool at the bar. Alpine hopped up to the countertop beside him and stared at Loki with her bright blue eyes

"I don't think you've met Alpine," I said as I pushed Loki towards her.

Her ears folded back, and her whiskers twitched as Loki let her inspect his long fingers. "Strange creature," he mumbled.

"So," Loki turned to me, "is this where you will be living from now on? I understand you had quite the fight with Rogers."

Bucky glared at him, "Yes. Stel and I are on vacation."

Loki nodded, "Understood." He turned to me with a mischievous grin. "Goddess, I have a favor to ask. In your absence, Steven has asked me to train the girl, Wanda. However, the compound is not suitable for the level of attention she needs. Could we use your island as her training ground?"

"Of course," I said. "I like her, and I think it'll be good for her to have a space like this to train."

He grinned at me, unusually genuine, "I am glad you agree." Swiftly, he turned to Bucky and nodded at him. "Well, I will not impose any longer. I shall see you soon, goddess, Sergeant Barnes."

"Oh," Loki hesitated just before he opened the front door to leave. The lights dimmed under his will to bring himself back to the compound. "I know it may not mean much to either of you, but I believe you have made the correct decision."

With that, he left.

Bucky and I were silent for a moment.

"I hate him," Bucky finally sighed.

I laughed and walked into his waiting arms. "He's not too bad."

Bucky only rolled his eyes and held me closer. His hands ran up and down my back, massaging my shoulders and combing my hair. "You're so amazing, my love."

"You are too, darling."

He breathed a laugh against my forehead. "No, Stella, you're really fucking special." He held me at arm's length. "Thank you for loving me. Thank you for marrying me. Thank you for not leaving me."

My heart ached thinking about Steve. I wondered what he was doing. Probably sulking and convincing himself he was right. I wondered if the team realized we were gone. We had left in such a hurry. I tried to ease my anxiety. I could go see them still. The door worked well, and the magic held strong.

Bucky and I just needed space. We just needed time.
