Background: Kayla always wanted to be in the military. Her family was supportive about it too. She didn't fly to go fight in wars or anything, though she did a few times. But that all changed one day.
Kayla stopped to use the bathroom. She took a sip from from her shake after coming back. She felt dizzy after a few minutes. That's when she passed out.
The next time she woke up, she'd been left in an alley and her clothes were a mess, torn apart. Though her jacket was still in a good enough state to wear.
She immediately knew what happened, and it almost broke her.
Kayla's team helped her get home okay after they found her. A doctor's visit only confirmed the truth, she'd been raped. She swore off even trusting another guy. Then she got sick. She'd gotten pregnant from whomever raped her. But when she saw the ultrasound, she just couldn't abort.
Kayla kept the baby. A boy she named Ruth was born 9 months later. He had vivid green eyes

Happy with Ruth, even though he was the result of something so terrible. Then, the zombies showed up. It was some kind of cure gone wrong. Kayla immediately was ordered to get herself and her family to a meeting point.
But a horde of zombies came out of nowhere while they were driving. Kayla was with Ruth in the back. He was three years old at the time.
Kayla's older sister, Maddie, had been driving. Maddie swerved to avoid the zombies, but flipped their truck in the process. Kayla ended up being thrown from the truck.
Before she could do anything, the truck burst into flames. She could only watch as her family and son burned, as there were too many zombies. Better than them being turned at least.
Kayla went to their pick up point, her team helping her cope the best they could. They watched their captain take risk after risk over the next few years. That changed when someone in the base turned at night.
Kayla got bitten before they took the zombie out. A nurse had been infected without anyone realizing. But her team couldn't bear killing their captain. They left her with a five shot revolver, and a single bullet. But Kayla didn't use it on herself, she actually never fired that specific bullet.
She stayed in the city after being left. But she never turned for some reason. Though it should have been impossible. Scientists even said immunity would be almost non-existent.
But she never turned, not even 2 years later. Kayla rigged her old apartment up as her base. She stock piled supplies, but never took everything at once. She left herself messages in a way. If she went inside once, she'd leave a single mark like a claw. Two visits, two claw marks. Three? Three claw marks. Then she'd stop going in there.
To keep some supplies for other survivors. Kayla made a bow and some arrows. She found a cloak to use to blend in at night and covers the bite mark on her shoulder with some bandages.
Which she changes every other day, unless blood gets up them. She thinks that her not changing was some kind of glitch or something. She'd rather not risk trying to get bitten again. Kayla swore something to Ruth.
That she didn't care when she died, as long as she took as many zombies as she could out before she did.

Kayla is cold and distant at first, even more so to any male she comes across. But if a child happens to be present, it'll be noticable she has a big soft spot for them. She takes a while to warm up to other survivors, especially if they're male.

Military training pretty much kept her prepared for the apocalypse. She's quiet on her feet, fast, and deadly with her hands and most weapons, especially the ones she carries on her.
She's skilled in weapons combat, stealth, archery, guerilla warfare, but lacks the skills needed for anything to do with close-range with a blade. She also knows Morse Code. But she's also taught herself a few tricks to survive and doesn't often mind sharing them with other survivors if they don't try attacking her first.

Her necklace is something Maddie helped her make. The Red bead is Ruth, the Blue is her older sister Maddie and the Yellow is both of her parents.
The bandage on Kayla's arm is covering a zombie bit. It broke the skin but she never turned for some reason.
Kayla was a captain. Her and her team came up with different ways to keep in contact. Codenames and even a code to call out if they were separated.

If they were ever separated, they were to go to the closest meeting point. If someone was there already, they were to call out 'raptor' carefully. If there was the response of 'pack' then the person was friendly. Kayla might use this without thinking. So beware if she's got a weapon out already.
Ace was the only boy in Kayla's squad. But he stayed behind at the base to keep communications up. He was called pilot due to the fact he's scared of heights so it's a sort of inside joke.

Okay. Let's get down the business.
The zombies in this RP will not be the Hollywood zombies. Some of the zombies can run pretty fast. It takes a few shots to bring them down, and cutting off their head will work. People can become infected, so think virus, if their blood or bodily fluids come in contact with blood or bodily fluids from the zombies or infected people. That being said. Don't make your oc bug out of blood touches their clothes (unless, you know, they're that timid or hate blood).
If your oc thinks they are infected: leave or other survivors might kill you. The zombies, or some of them, should either be fast, strong, have good hearing or smell and probably something that marks them a zombie (ex: missing an arm/red eyes. Idk we'll figure it out.
