xi. LONGING FOR YOU
∞༺♥༻✧
Derek Hale |
RELEASING A BLOOD CURDLING GROWL, DEREK PUNCHED ANOTHER WHOLE INTO THE WALL. Another pain struck in his chest. The same pain that had been happening the last three days. He knew why this was happening. It was all because of the mate bond and being separated from her. He should've known this pain would begin after letting her go back home. To him, the pain was durable. But for Azalea? She was human and wouldn't be able to handle the pain. He was more concerned for her sake. She must've been going crazy with the pain right now.
With insight from David and Christian, she wasn't doing too well. She had missed classes yesterday from running a fever and being in too much pain to move. As concerning as it was, he was more fearful for the nightmares plaguing her sleep. This would continue until she was with him again. None of it will go away unless they were together. How would he explain to her the moment they're together, everything she was enduring just suddenly stop? He didn't necessarily want to tell her all this time he was the most feared Alpha and everyone in the community were wolves as well. And he wasn't ready to tell her she was stuck with him for life.
He growled, dripping onto the edges of his desk as he tried to ignored the harsh pain in his chest. He needed it to stop. With this never ending pain, he wasn't able to focus on his Alpha duties. He wasn't able to focus on anything. He ended up having Scott step in while he tried to gain control of himself. It was getting more difficult by the day with his wolf growing more restless, pushing him to get back to his mate.
"Alpha Hale, Peter is here to see you." Isaac, one of Derek beta's quietly spoke as he walked into Derek's now messy office.
Derek lifted his head up, glaring at the shy beta. "Send him in." He replied gruffly, watching as Isaac gulped and rushed out of the office.
Shortly after, the eldest living Hale entered the office, taking note in how awful the ruthless Alpha looked. "You certainly have yourself in quite the troubling situation, dear nephew." Peter spoke, chuckling shamelessly as his icy blue eyes studied the wrecked interior.
"Any reason why you're back?" Derek spat, eyes flashing their ruby red in attempt to intimidate his heartless uncle. He killed him once, and he'll certainly do it again.
"Well, I got a little tip from an insider that you crashed worlds with your mate." Peter smirked, sauntering over to one of the cushions chairs and making himself comfortable. "And with the quickly building army of the rogues, you would need any extra hands."
Derek shook his head violently, "Not from you. I have enough Warriors and fighters to take the rogues."
"Quit holding onto the past, nephew. I'm not here to stir any trouble. I'm here to lend a helping hand for my last living relative." Peter gave a careless sigh, shaking his head as he sucked his teeth.
"You want me to quite holding onto the past? How do you expect me to forget you killed Laura, my sister and your niece, for the Alpha title? And how you murdered innocent people and changed Scott." Derek shouted, slamming his tight fists into the desk top at her stared at his uncle dangerously.
Peter grinned in amusement, "And look what you created from it. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have any of this."
"Oh please," Derek scoffed, standing tall and crossing his arms over her broad chest. "This wasn't because of you! I built an entire community and a pack to protect the human world. Not because I wanted revenge on you."
"Believe it or not, Derek, I didn't come here to fight. I came here because I truly want to be apart of this pack." Peter said, sincere written all over his features and laced in his tone of voice.
Derek stared at him, trying to find any sign of his uncle potentially attempting to screw him over. Even though he couldn't find any of those signs, he was still going to play it safe. His uncle knew how to twist his way into people's heads and how to be quite vindictive. So until Peter proved his worth, Derek knew what he had to do.
"Fine. I will allow you to be apart of this pack. However, if you do anything to ruin me or put this pack at risk, I will not hesitate to banish you from the pack. Understood?" Derek voiced in his authority tone, showing he meant business and business only. He won't allow any slip ups or mistakes from his uncle. Especially with his mate being around. He wasn't going to allow anything to destroy him.
"Understood." Peter nodded, fully meaning his words. He had no reason to ruin his nephew's life. And he certainly wasn't interesting in being the Alpha. Especially since it didn't work out in his favor last time.
"Great. Until you can prove you're part of this pack, you will be kept in the cells." Derek told him, a sinister like smirk twisting onto his features as he saw Peter's face drop.
Right on cue, four highly trained Warriors entered the office, stomping their way over to Peter. Knowing better than to retaliate, Peter allowed them to drag him out of the room and to the pack station house where he would be kept. But before he was completely out of the room, he said one thing to get on Derek's nerves.
"Doesn't take an expert to know being apart from your mate is slowly killing you." Peter's voice echoed in Derek's head as he was dragged out by the Warriors.
Derek let out a stressed sigh, plopping down on his chair and resting his head in his hands. As much as he didn't want to admit it, Peter was right. Continuing to be apart from Azalea will only make him worse until he completely snaps and give in to the beast inside him. He couldn't let that happen. Only three painful days have gone by and it was the hardest three days for him. He wasn't sure if he could go on any further without her.

Azalea Montez |
Waking up with a cold sweat, Azalea's limbs trembled vigorously as the haunting nightmare lingered in her mind. It felt real. Way too real. She could still see the glowing red eyes. She could taste the metallic blood in her mouth. And she could feel the burning sensation in her neck of what looked like to be fangs piercing through her flesh. What freaked her out even more was the fact it was the same reoccurring nightmare. Every time she closed her eyes, her body succumbed to the never ending nightmare.
But that wasn't the only thing worrying her. The striking chest pain she was currently enduring only seemed to worsen by the day. She didn't understand what was going on or why this was happening to her. The first day was durable. The following days weren't so durable. It was getting to be too much for her body and no amount of pain reliever medicine could help her. Not even Victoria knew what to do at this point.
David had been keeping a close eye on her, knowing this was happening because of Derek. Because of the mate bond. He was guilty for not being able to tell her the truth. He so desperately wanted to tell her everything but it wasn't his place to. It needed to be Derek to tell her the truth. And he was growing a sudden hatred for his Alpha. His best friend was suffering because Derek didn't have big enough balls to come forward with the truth.
Apparently he soon figured out it was all part of his Alpha's plan. At first, David was confused as to why Derek suddenly let Azalea go back home. Until he realized Derek was well aware of the pain it brought with being apart from your mate. Wolves were able to withstand the pain. Human mates? The pain could slowly kill them. David put together the pieces about Derek letting her go, so she would be in pain away from him until he could swoop back in like a knight in shining armour.
It was now the fourth day and Azalea's fever was even more alarming. She had circles under her eyes so dark it looked as if she hadn't slept in weeks. Her skin was even a few shades lighter, giving a sickening look to her. She was under the care of David while Victoria went out to the store to hopefully get food gentle enough to settle in her stomach. David knew nothing would work unless she was back in the arms of Derek.
"Dammit Azalea! Your skin is on fire." David exclaimed worriedly, pulling away his hand as he felt her forehead to feel her temp. As much as he loves to over exaggerate for effect, he wasn't this time. "This isn't okay." He mumbled, mostly to himself as he grabbed his phone.
"Why isn't this ending?!" She whimpered, tears pricking her eyes as she curled up on her bed, shoving away the blankets that added to her heat.
David looked at her in sorrow. He was seconds away from telling her everything. How he was a werewolf, and everyone she met in the communities were as well, excluding Allison, Lydia, and Stiles. How Derek was the leader of the pack, and how she was tied to him forever. He couldn't stand seeing his close friend suffer because his Alpha was a complete fucking moron.
Just as he opened his mouth to tell her, his phone buzzed with a message from Christian. 'I don't know how much longer this can go on for. Derek lost control last night. And now Azalea's only worsening? There's nothing that can help her.' The text read, David huffing at the words he didn't want to know.
He had to think of something fast before he upped and told her everything. Then it clicked in his head. There was one person who might know how to help lessen the effect of the bond forcing them back together. Who might be able to help Azalea's physical state for a while.
'Deaton might have something to give her. I'll be there in twenty.' David texted back to Christian.
Then came a quick warning reply from him. 'I wouldn't do that if I were you. Not only would it be going against Derek's back, and putting yourself and Deaton at risk.'
As much as Christian was right, David didn't care at this point. His main concern was the well being of his friend. Even though it was a big risk for him to do something like this, he wasn't going to allow his friend to suffer in pain any longer. Would Derek potentially kill him for this? Maybe. He couldn't sit here and know why this was happening to her and not do anything. He needed to something and fast.
The sound of a door opening and closing caught David's attention, "I think Victoria's back. I have to run back to my house to grab something but I won't be gone long. Twenty minutes the most."
"It's fine. Take as long as you need. Victoria's got me." She smiled weakly at him, earning a frown in return. He watched her close her eyes again before exiting her bedroom and going into the kitchen where he met Victoria.
"It's getting worse and harder to keep this from her." David spoke quietly to her, not wanting Azalea to overhear their conversation.
Thanks to Christian as well as David, Victoria well was aware of the current situation. She now knew the supernatural was indeed real and not just something you read in books. She took it surprising well but that was mainly because her and Christian had a thing together. What she didn't take well was how all of this was Derek's fault. How her best friend she promised to take care of is in excruciating pain because of Derek. If it wasn't for Christian calming her down, she would've marched right into the community and killed Derek herself.
"You know I think she should know the truth. If Derek won't tell her soon, then I will." Victoria threatened while unpacking the grocery bags. "She doesn't deserve any of this."
"Trust me, I know and I'm just as angry at Derek as you are. But there's nothing that I can say to him without him trying to kill me." David told her, knowing Derek wasn't the easiest person to handle. How can someone as sweet and calm as Azalea be mated to an arrogant, dangerous Alpha werewolf? It made no sense.
"The longer she's away from him, the worse it'll get?" Victoria asked, already knowing the answer but hoping to hear something different.
He nodded, "It's the mate bond forcing them back together. They're longing for each other even if she doesn't want to admit it."
"Maybe we should let Derek come her. So she's in a comfortable setting instead of being surrounded by everyone there." Victoria suggested, which wasn't a bad idea. David knew Derek would come in a heartbeat but he also knew Derek needed to hear it from Azalea.
"I can try and talk to him but he needs to hear it from her. He's worse than stubborn. But I'm pretty sure I have a temporary fix." He said, catching her full attention.
"What do you mean a temporary fix?" She questioned.
"I'm not sure if it'll work and that I can pull it off. But I know someone in the community who might have something to lessen the pain of the effects."
Successfully David was able to retrieve a medicine to help better Azalea temporarily. It would only work for so long but sooner or later, she would need to be reunited with Derek. Like David said, it was only a temporary fix. But it was better than nothing. Luckily for him, he was able to sneak into the pack hospital to meet Deaton and sneak back out without being caught. Unless Derek caught him and would have to be dealt with later. He just knew Derek had eyes everywhere.
"Will it work?" Victoria asked, eyeing the light blue liquid David poured into a small medicine cup.
"It should. If it doesn't, then we need to get them back together unfortunately. I think it's also worse because she's unintentionally rejecting him." David explained, glancing at Victoria who eyed the substance wearily before he walked into Azalea's room.
He saw her sitting up, reading a book for one of her classes so she wasn't behind on her school work. He watched her look at the medicine in his hand and put down her book while he took a seat on the end of her bed.
"What's this?" She asked, taking the small cup from his hold.
"Medicine to help you. It'll help with the pain and fever." He told her, not wanting to give to much detail onto the truth of what it really was. As long as it helped her.
She took the medicine, her face twisting in disgust as she handed back the cup. "That's fucking nasty." She mumbled, sipping the tea Victoria made her before David returned. "Thank you for everything."
"Don't mention it. As long as you feel better, that's enough for me." He told her, earning a gracious smile from her. "Well I gotta get back. If you need anything don't hesitate to call."
"Thank you, David. Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow in class."
What they didn't know was Derek knew what David had done. How he was able to retrieve a dose of a suppressant to lessen the effects of the main bond pushing them together. This wasn't part of his plan. He needed Azalea to see she needed him in ways she couldn't yet see. His plan was completely diminished. And the wrath of Derek Hale was not a sight to see.
