༊*·˚ CHAPTER 3
‗ ❍ YOU LEANED BACK IN YOUR SEAT AS A DRAMATIC SIGH LEFT YOUR BITE SWOLLEN LIPS, combing back your hair with your fingers equally spread out through the coarse strands.
School was a complete drag today, not as if it wasn't any other. Though today in particular left you feeling overly uneasy, with your body feeling just a bit too warm, and the pounding in your heart thumping a bit too hard.
Though the sheer amount of throbbing you felt in your head was almost unbearable. Almost every sound felt like a nuisance that solely contributed to this, hangover.. like sensation your body had begun to endure.
"Look," you heard a familiar voice behind you point out, "what's got her so caught up?"
"I dunno.. trouble in paradise?" Remarked Mei jokingly, to which the prior grinned at mischievously.
"Awweee, y/n. Is there boy trouble?" He prompted teasingly.
You furrowed your brows at that, "Shut it Kota."
"There is isn't there?" He egged on, making you turn around.
"That's none of your business now is it." You barked to which he feigned hurt to.
"It is my business when you're moping around instead of helping me. You're the smartest of the 3 of us and I don't get the material." He pouted.
That pout being his menacingly annoying way of trying to get what he wants.
"Yeah well, suck it up. Ask your beloved Mrs. Imai for help or something." You said nodding your head towards the professors direction.
"Don't use that tone on my wife. I'm gonna tell her you're being mean to your dear classmate." He swore.
"Don't try me." You remarked angling your head in a more 'intimidating' demeanour.
"Or what." He smirked, knowing you weren't one to resolve to violence. That was Mei's job, being the one to keep everyone in check that is.
"I-"
"Alright class," the professor started, "I'm assigning groups of 3 and 4 to complete these worksheets surrounding the material we've learnt in class today. If you've listened then there shouldn't be any issues, though if necessary you're welcome to ask for some guidance." She exclaims.
"Shit.. y/n please tell me you picked up on what the material is." Kota begged as he proceeded to pick up from where he left off.
"You're such an leech Kota." Mei sighs smacking the back of his neck condescendingly.
"I'll just dig my grave now then." He wines.
"Well maybe if you studied rather than spend all your damn time on useless crap, you wouldn't suffer your dads.. wrath." Mei spoke all knowingly, watching as the companion beside her began to shudder.
"Shut up, you're no better." He sulked with a vein in his forehead prominently bulging.
"Honestly guys my head is pounding right now, can you keep it down." You sighed turning around once again.
"Suck it y/n, I'm disappointed in you. How dare you not listen when that's supposed to be our job." Kota bitched about, mentally and physically making you want to beat the living daylights out of him.
"I thought your job was being a nuisance." Mei responded for you.
You gave the two a light grin before your head went static. Suddenly it was as if the world was spinning and you were the only one frozen in place, distorted images pushed through the crevices of your mind all while you simply sat through the process.
This sore dizziness was far worse than the series of low iron scenarios you've encountered, worse than the abrupt motion of getting up from your seat and feeling faint. There's nothing you could compare this to.
It was as if you were in a dream, brutally conscious of your surroundings in both a mental and physical sense. With the visions that toyed with your mind you saw a pair of athletic training shoes, as weird as it sounds, and you could hear, hear things that weren't really here, a few distorted, stray words at best but you could certainly hear it.
You felt and saw a hand on a shoulder, simultaneously through your reality, and this distorted 'vision' of sorts.
Words, emotions and your senses betrayed you, you could hear footsteps approaching in what you believed to be the vision,
A̷̧̙͉̲͓̙̲͎̟͂̄̍͑͗̽͜r̴̫̗̥͉̖̈̇̀̑̋̃̃ẹ̸̬̲̝̀̌̓̾̎̋ ̷͔̹̝̱͔̝̍̋́ý̷̡̡̧̛͉̖̲͗͋̈́̏̾ó̶̜̫̿̀̂̈́̐͑̒̈́̚u̶̪̳̣͓̦͆̽ͅ ̶̣̥̭̬̒̂͐̔̔̿͠͠͝ō̷̤̬͆ķ̷̤̱̺̗͙̂̅̆́̈́̂͘ͅa̴̧̙̘̅̔̀̓͆͑͂̾͠͝ȳ̵̹̻̪̱̦͙́̌̀̂̇̈̕͜?̴̛͇̯̳̉̀̀͋̈́̉
Is all that you heard.
And then it was over, the physical touch of someone's hand on your shoulder replaced the vision and feeling of the priors.
Your eyes had widened to an unhealthy amount, whilst you heart felt like it were to pop out of your chest. You needed to get out of there.
Shaking off the hand that had no comforting affect you abruptly stood up, you reached a hand out to hover over your aching head whilst you called out "Mrs, I'd like to go to the nurses office please." You almost begged.
The concern laced in your voice, combined with the ever so stressed appearance of your face was more than enough to convince the professor to let you be without asking any further questions
"Just grab a hall pass on your way out." She smiled lightly as if to ease you.
And with that you left, not a single thought put into packing up your textbooks or pencils, not a glance towards your concerned friends, no thought other than the painstaking feeling that brought itself upon your uneasy mind and soul.
.
By the time you reached the infirmary your breathing techniques had put you at a more calmer state of mind, or really as calm as you could be in that situation.
The metallic rust made your fingers tingle as you twisted the knob of the door to the nurses office.
"Hi love, is your head hurting again?" Spoke the sweet and gentle older woman from the corner of the room.
She was sorting through a few cabinets with fewer boxes beside her, doing what you believed to be restocking some medical inventory before turning to face and acknowledge you.
You sighed before nodding, walking towards the low desk where the patient attendance sheets were, before writing down your name and class.
The older woman pouted, placing down a fresh box of bandaids before proceeding to make way towards you, "Are you sure you haven't hurt yourself in any way?" She asked as she placed the back of her hand on your forehead gently.
"I'm sure." You answered softly, closing your eyes at the contact.
"Have you had water." She continued on.
You smiled lightly at her worrisome behaviour, "Yes ma'am."
"Have you rested?" She proceeded to ask, "I understand your grades are important to you, though you need to be sure you're getting plenty of rest." She exclaimed.
"I appreciate your concern, but I'm fine. It's just a head ache, a migraine at most." You assured her. Even though you weren't quite sure what happened yourself.
"Alright then, I'll write a slip for you for next period. Rest easy until then, and if you still feel unwell we can send you home." She finalised as she didn't want to pry any further.
"No- no it's fine. I'm okay. I just need to sit down for a bit and I'll get back to class." You smiled faintly in an attempt not to stress the both of you out too much.
"Don't put so much pressure on yourself." She sighed, "I've got some errands to run but if you need any first aid the basic kit is in the corner. And if you aren't feeling any better." She paused, peeling off a post it note from the stack on the desk beside you, writing up some details before presenting it before you. "Bring this up to the head office."
"Thankyou." You said as you took the note from her gentle hands.
"No problem." She smiled before collecting a few things from the desk and leaving you on your own in the room.
You crumpled the note up in your hands before sitting yourself down on the day bed.
And once the idea that you were completely, and utterly alone in this painfully dull, white room settled in. You couldn't help but feel the exact opposite.
.
As you shifted over to the other side of the bed, the sound of the door creaking open made its way to your alarmed ears.
Though by the pair of footsteps you could easily determine who they belonged to, the fast paced ones belonging to a particular erratic male, and the companion that entailed with what was most likely to be frustration due to the prior.
You could hear the rattling of a few items, and the squeak of the males athletic shoes making contact with the floor beneath him, "My loveee, i come bearing gifts." He sung sweetly as he neared you.
"Kota you're too loud, she's sleeping you moron." Mei followed up slapping the back of his neck.
"Was." He said, pointing to your direction as you proceeded to get up from your lying position.
"What time is it?" You croaked out.
"Final bell just rang about 5 minutes ago." Mei answered.
Your eyes gleamed with worry, "Fuck me.." you spoke almost incoherently.
"Relax, your brother is still in the gym. And i told Mr. Hasegawa what was up." Kota eased your frustration. "Oh, and I got your bag.." he taps the strap on his shoulder indicating it was yours "You're all set." He smiled.
"Thankyou." You sighed in relief.
"Yea I know, what would you do without me." He grinned whilst being almost too proud of himself.
"Probably not have that migraine." Mei scoffed, interrupting his 'moment'.
"Shut it Kikuchi." He barked being irritant towards the prior.
"Mei do you have notes on the last 2 classes?" You asked interrupting their banter that was sure to begin.
Mei picked up her bag from the chair she left it on a moment before and began to approach you "Yeah I got you." She smiled as she extended her hand.
"Why didn't you ask me?" Kota questioned.
You and Mei exchanged glances, "You're joking right?" You asked simultaneously.
"Whatever," he scoffed, "let's bounce." He remarked as he opened the door for you.
You pointed at your bag on his shoulder, indicating that you could grab it now, before he just as easily brushed it off. Tightening his hand on the strap as he waved you off.
"Hey did you guys wanna go get some food? I'm starving." Kota asked with his stomach rumbling as if it were on cue.
Mei sighed, "I told you to eat something at lunch, dumbass."
"Fuck off. Y/n's probably hungry too, considering she slept almost half the day." He defended, turning back to your spaced out self "isn't that right y/n?"
"Huh? Yea sure." You smiled lightly before feeling a light tap on your shoulder.
"Hey." An unknown presence uttered. When you turned to glance at said individual all you saw was a wall of a broad chest. And when you tried to find the face to match the figure with you found yourself tilting you head back to a particularly drastic extent.
"hi? Can I help you?" You spoke in an unsure manner.
"Uh, yeah. Sorry to bother you but could you direct me towards the gymnasium?" The unfamiliar voice queried.
You nodded your head as you spoke "Yeah, i can take you there if you'd like?"
He raised his hand before him as if to
shake the idea off, not wanting to be a bother "No stress, I can find my way." He explained.
"Nah it's cool, I was headed there anyway." You shrugged before turning your head back to your friends who waited a few steps ahead of you, "you guys go ahead, I still have to see Ryuji anyways." You beckoned.
Kota frowned slightly before Mei spoke up, "We'll be at xx cafe for a while if you're still planning on joining us." She smiled lightly, grabbing your backpack off Kota's shoulder before treading over and handing it to you.
"Alright, see you soon." You smiled before thanking her. Nodding your head at the guy waiting beside you to come along.
After a few seconds of pondering what to say you spoke up "Soo, Fukurodani high huh?" You asked noticing the words across the back of his shirt, it seemed to cling ever so tightly to his rather muscular build.
"Yes ma'am." He smiled, giving a quick glance to your smaller stature to the side of him, thankful you decided to break the silence.
"What are you doing all the way here?" You asked, keeping your eyes trained on the pebble you began kicking about. "Volleyball tournament type of thing." He answered as he scratched the back of his head, his bicep stretching the material of his sleeves as he did so.
"Oh cool, you might know my brother then?
Ryuji l/n." You said before looking at him, forgetting all about the stone you were picking on. He shrugged as your eyes met, "Doesn't ring any bells, sorry."
You bit the side of your cheek at his response, "that's okay, he's a first year so he hasn't been on the team too long anyways." you ended up saying. "What position does he play?" He asked before absentmindedly picking off a piece of lint from his sweater.
"He's an aspiring setter." You smiled, enjoying being able to talk about your younger brother, you sounded like a proud mother the way you spoke so highly of him all the time. "What about you?"
"I'm a middle blocker." He said whilst he acknowledged the slight confusion on your face.
"Ah nice. Remind me what that is again." You said smiling sheepishly. He breathed out a laugh at that, "Basically a first line of defence. Job is to not let the ball cross over the net. Hence the blocking." He finalised with a grin on his face. "I appreciate you not using all those fancy terms on me. I don't think I could handle it if I'm being honest." You laughed tucking away a stray strand of hair that the wind wouldn't stop provoking.
"Not a big fan of volleyball?" He asked in return, turning his head towards the gym you neared.
"I like watching it. When I sit down and look at the schools team practice at least. I'm just not someone that reads into the technological terms of it all." You explained with your hands in your pockets.
"Ah, so are you going to watch practice today too?" He said turning to face you now that you both reached your destination.
"Possibly, why? Would you like me to cheer you on?" You teased, interested in what his reaction might be. "I wouldn't be one to object to it." He replied, somewhat returning your energy he seemed to lack before.
"Pfft. The volleyball section is in the next one down." You said pointing it out, not that neither one of you couldn't hear the squeaking shoes or ball bouncing on the court every now and then.
"Thankyou." He smiled down at you. "I didn't catch your name." You said mindlessly.
"That's cause I didn't mention it."
He didn't appear to be one to break eye contact now that you think of it. It was attractive to say the least.
"Well, I'm y/n." You said hoping to get a reply.
"I know." He nodded his head, "I heard your friend mention it before."."Oh." You watched how his eyes focused on you, catching him size you up before he mumbled out.
"Washio Tatsuki."
"Hm?" Under the heat of his gaze you practically forgot all there was to be said.
"My name." He pointed out with a one sided grin, a devilish one at that. "I mean, I was settled on calling you number 2, but that might work a little better." You joked.
"So you plan on calling for me?" He further pried, beginning to enjoy your attention and replies.
"You know what I meant." You rolled your eyes playfully, crossing your arms over your chest.
"Maybe, but I'd prefer the latter." He said taking just a step closer.
"Win the game." You blurted out, to which he raised a brow in response to. "Win the game and I'll give you my number." You clarified.
"What If feel bad for you brother? If he gets upset at losing how will that secure me some time with you." He prompted, "dang, you have a fair point there." You laughed going along with his response.
"So then. Give me your phone." He said putting his hand out expectantly, "I don't mean to be blunt, but the only plausible outcome is for me to get your number." He shrugged, "Sounds reasonable." you smiled passing said phone over to him, watching as he filled out his contact.
"Indeed." He replied before handing you back your phone, "I got to get in now but, I'll call you." He smiled whilst he took a few steps backwards heading in the direction of the door, giving you one final glance before going inside .
Looking down at your phone you smile, you open his contact and begin debating when might be a good time to shoot him a text. He needs to get your number somehow anyways, "should I.."
"Y/n." A voice called out behind you, one that you recognised all too well.
"Shit.." you somewhat flinched, clenching your teeth before turning to face your dreaded visit, "what's up Ren?" You said feigning a look that'd make him believe you were happy to see him.
"Who was that?" He questioned, looking at the door Tatsuki walked through not so long ago.
"No one, I was just helping him find the gym." You replied, trying to dissipate whatever thoughts he had behind those almost black like eyes, "He's in the tournament with my brother."
"Ah, so that wasn't you giving him your number just now?" He asked not buying into whatever bullshit you came up with. You caught yourself sighing, turning your head to the side to discreetly roll your eyes. "You've always had hawk eyes haven't you." You remarked.
"For you, ofcourse." He joked, if you could even really call it one. You knew he was overly fond of you, ever since the two of you became... more than friends. You had to stop yourself from rolling your eyes all over again before you turned back to him to give a response, "Can I help you with something."
"Yeah actually, you can." He smiled coming in just a bit closer.
"See I was thinking about you all of last period," he spoke as he took another two steps too close, "and for the life of me I couldn't get my mind off your tongue all on my cock." He concluded painting a picture all too vividly.
Your hand moved to his chest as he came in far too close for comfort, "Can you lower your voice." You grimaced, "listen I'm kind of busy right now, I have to watch my brothers match." You stated, hoping he'd take the hint.
"Come on y/n, I'm so hard right now. He'll be too focused on the game to even notice your support." He somewhat begged as he brought his lips down to place a kiss under your jaw, "Please baby I need you."
And there it is. You mentally screamed as his hand intertwined with the one you tried to push him away with.
"10 minutes." You bargained.
"Mm, 30."
