"Bud? You ready to go?"
"Yeah, coming!"
It was time for our Christmas Eve cinema trip. It turned out it was a double bill of the first two Home Alone films, not just the first one! They were the only good movies, so I was happy with that, and Kazuki hadn't ever seen them, so he was excited too.
We decided to dress up for the occasion, him donning a little Santa outfit, and myself a large reindeer onesie. It was so comfy, and I'd be embarrassed to be seen in it without Kaz next to me, but if he was there, it didn't matter. We were out to have fun, after all!
It wasn't a pleasant Christmas Eve weather wise, so I decided to drive to the cinema. We wouldn't usually, but it was in the interest of safety. I wanted Kazuki to be nice and warm as well, given we both had pretty thin clothing on.
Walking into the cinema with about ten minutes to spare, I sent Kazuki to get a few snacks he wanted while I approached Kenma, who was gawking at me in the onesie.
"Hey there Prancer.."
"...shut up, I'm cold."
"You're right, your nose is a little red....Rudolph!"
"...should've known..."
"Don't worry, it's adorable! Those little antlers of yours fit, they should be permanent.."
"...thanks. Did you see Kaz?"
"I did, yeah. He looks great too!"
"Sweet. It was his idea, so..."
"How adorable. So is it the "home alone's" today?"
"Yeah, we pre-booked tickets, so we're just getting snacks. And with that...can I get two chocolate milkshakes?"
"Coming right up~"
Shortly after, he handed me the milkshakes, and I said "thanks. You off Tuesday, yeah?"
"I most certainly am, why?"
"Pizza night? With movies?"
"Absolutely, I'll get the bus over! Does Kaz get his...special present tomorrow?"
"Yeah, the...thing is over at Bo's place. He's gonna love it, I'm so excited!"
"That reminds me, how did those job interviews go?"
"I got the hotel job! I'm starting next Monday, so I've still got one week at my old work. I gave notice yesterday and they said one week was enough, so I'm nearly free!"
"Amazing! Is it just those snacks?" He said as Kazuki came over with a couple of bags. I grabbed something for myself and added it to the pile, and Kenma totalled it up. I payed him, and just before we walked into the screen, I kissed his cheek over the counter. There was no one else in the lobby, so I just thought fuck it, why not!
As I sat down in the screen with Kazuki, he started giggling. I sent him a curious look, and went "daddy's got a boyfriend~" in a sing-song-y voice. My face went incredibly hot, and I tickled him mercilessly until I was satisfied.
"He's not my boyfriend...but hopefully he will be soon."
"I like him, he's fun! Make him your boyfriend daddy, please!"
"Ok, Kaz. I'll try. Be quiet now, there's other people here, remember!"
"Ok..." he said, before hugging tightly into me from his seat. I held him close to me, and found myself wishing that Kenma was on the other side of him, held close to me as well. Knowing that Kazuki liked him felt like a hell of a relief, and I felt suddenly more confident about the whole thing.
"Hey bud, you excited for tomorrow? What do ya reckon Santa's gonna bring for you?"
"Um....I dunno, but whatever it is I'll be happy!"

"That's my boy, always grateful. C'mere!"
I hugged him tight once again, and he laughed into my chest. I could see a couple of people smiling at us, mainly him, and it always made me so proud when that happened. People acknowledging how fucking cute my kid was felt like such immense praise, even though it had very little to do with me.
The first movie started, and for the duration of the whole thing, all that could be heard was the laughter of the kids in the cinema, including Kaz. It was beautiful, and a couple of the mothers and I exchanged happy glances at one another. Sometimes I felt like I was Kazuki's mum and dad, given how useless his mother had been to him. It wasn't the easiest thing, but I did it for him, always and forever. He pieced me back together when I was broken up about Yumi's state, him who had stopped me ending up someplace similar, him who I lived for.
The movie ended, and Kazuki had finished all of the snacks he had, and did the adorable puppy eyes at me. I couldn't resist, and said "I'll get some popcorn, yeah?"
"Yeah! Popcoooorn!"
"Ssshhh, quiet!"
"Sorry..." he said with a cheeky smile, and I just pinched his cheek and said "stay there, I won't be long, ok?"
I was fine leaving him, since all the other people in the room had young children with them. A kidnapper would never take a kid to the cinema, right?
Walking up to the counter, still in the reindeer onesie, I saw Kenma waiting there, looking exceptionally bored. I tried to sneak up on him, but without even looking over, he said "I can see your cute little antlers, don't try it"
"Awww, stupid things!" I said, pawing at them playfully.
"You look like a cat"
"Yeah well, you like cats, right~?"
"Yeah, especially when they're dressed up like reindeer~"
"I see this as a complete win~"
"What do you want?"
"Popcorn, mixed please!"
"One sec~"
He came back with a massive tub of popcorn, and I payed him for it. I picked up a single bite and held it out, and he gratefully took it in his teeth.
"Sustenance achieved~"
I couldn't help but laugh at the dorky comment, and we stood there giggling for a while. I looked up at him, before putting a piece of popcorn between my teeth and leaning forward, inviting him to take it. He rolled his eyes, then tried to, but at the last second I let it drop from my mouth and connected our lips, only for a couple of seconds, before leaning back and grabbing hold of the popcorn.
"Enjoy the movie~" he shouted back at me, and I looked back to see him licking his bottom lip, having clearly enjoyed the kiss.
Wait.
The kiss?
Did I kiss him?
When?
Now?
The fuck?
Holy shit, I did kiss him! I hadn't planned it, I wanted that kind of thing to be romantic, and there was nothing less romantic than kissing him at work while I was dressed as a derpy looking reindeer!
Racing back up to Kazuki, I sat down next to him, and placed the popcorn between us. He paced himself with it, as I knew he would. Despite eating a fair amount, he never seemed to put on that much weight, so as a conscious father, I chucked food at him basically all day. But he never put that much on. He was healthy, of course, but not nearly as fat as I would be if I ate as much as him.
He enjoyed this movie just as much as the first, and when we were in the lobby, he ran over to the counter and said "bye Kenma!", which nearly made me die of cuteness overload. I sprinted with him to the car to get out of the torrential rain, and drove him home to get into bed before Santa came. I showed him that I'd laid out a glass of milk, a carrot, and a mince pie on the table, before I tucked him into bed and said "try and get some sleep. Get me up a little earlier than usual, but not crazy early, yeah?"
"Yeah, ok. Night daddy..."
"Night bud. I'll leave your door open a crack, ok?"
"Yeah..."
I trudged downstairs after tucking him in, and put the tv on for a little bit. I was fighting sleep when I decided to check on Kazuki. He was fast asleep, so it was a good time to start getting things ready. I took a big bite out of the carrot, and another out of the mince pie, before gulping down some of the milk too. His things were in a little cupboard, so I got them out and put them on the floor in front of the fireplace.
I then decided to sprinkle some "snow" on the floor, and put on a boot to make footprints in it, adding to the magic a little bit more. Once I was satisfied, my reindeer self made its way up the stairs, careful to avoid the "snow", and settled down to sleep.
Tomorrow would be fucking magical
