I can't believe this is finished! I haven't finished a story in years. It's bittersweet but I hope you enjoyed following along this ride.
If you stuck with me to the end: thank you.

Eight months later
"Jesus, doll. You're all wet."
You look at Bucky with squinted eyes. "And whose fault is that?"
"You're the one that kept asking me to go harder."
Bucky laughs while he opens the bedroom door for you. You were both soaked in sweat from your training session. It felt good to finally get your strength back but maybe you went a little overboard today.
You sit loudly in Bucky's bed with a huff. Or rather, your bed. Since you got home from the hospital, he never let you sleep alone again. Whenever one of you would wake up in screams from the nightmares, the other was there to calm them down.
It was hard at first, convincing each other that neither of you were going to leave. After apologising approximately 37 times for kidnapping you for HYDRA - which you never blamed him for - Bucky eventually accepted that this was real. Your relationship was real and out in the open and unbreakable.
Bucky takes off his sneakers still smirking at you and you stick your tongue out. You pull off your drenched white t-shirt and raise an eyebrow at him.
"Join me in the shower?"
The soldier lets out a little chuckle before leaning down to give you a kiss on the lips. "If I ever say no to that, I want you to take the gun we keep on the nightstand and shoot me, okay?"
You grab his face with both hands, kissing him deeply between laughs. Everything was good.
Your phone vibrates in your pocket and you reluctantly pull it out, breaking away from Bucky.
"Oh, it's uh... my mom." It still feels weird to say the word out loud.
After you woke up from the coma, Tony told you all he knew about your past and your family.
It took you a couple of months to decide to reach out to your mother after the initial shock. But everyone wants a mom, right? And so did you.
Nothing could've prepared you for the overwhelming amount of love the woman had for you.
You thought maybe she wouldn't believe you when you said you were her daughter and granted, she had some doubts. But after talking for a while and showing her all your records, she broke into tears and hugged you for a really long time. She didn't exactly understand everything, but her daughter was back and that's all that mattered. You'd been going back to her house with Bucky for Sunday dinner ever since.
Before you could answer the phone, Bucky took it off your hand. "I'll take this one, baby. Go ahead and get the water going."
You raise an eyebrow at him, suspicious. But he already has the phone pressed to his ear and is yapping away.
"Yeah, she's just taking a shower." He laughs awkwardly while you take off your clothes. "No no, it's still early."
Bucky winks at you and you shrug, walking into the bathroom and turning on the shower tap. You wait a few seconds before walking in, letting the warm water run down your aching muscles and relax you. You close your eyes and raise your head, breathing in the familiar oak and whiskey smell.
You feel a cold hand in your left hip before Bucky's lips settle in your neck. You smile to yourself, arching your back to press against him. He lets out a soft moan before sliding his right hand to your side, down your stomach and into your pussy.
He moves his hand in slow delicious circles before slipping a finger inside you carefully. You lay your head back into Bucky's chest, leaning into the pleasure. He nibbles on your ear while inserting another finger, stretching you further. His metal hand goes up to cup your breasts firmly. The movement is rhythmic, precise, exactly right. You melt into him, the soft rumble in your lower belly building until you find release.
Bucky lets you go and you turn around to face him, kissing him breathlessly. Your hands rummage through his hair, almost long enough to reach his shoulders now. He grabs on to you fiercely, pulling you close in a hurry.
You reach down to grab his cock, already hard and throbbing for you. He moans roughly against your lips as you pump him a few times with a wicked smile. His hands fly to your waist, pulling you up to his lap.
Bucky walks out of the shower with you, slamming you down in the bathroom counter next to the sink. The water drips into the floor, soaking everything around. Not that either of you care.
You open your legs wide to accommodate him while the super soldier places his cock at your entrance, teasing you before thrusting in. The both of you moan loudly, falling deeper into the feeling.
Bucky's metal hand keeps a tight grip on your waist while he picks up his pace. You fling your arms around his neck, grabbing onto his shoulders to keep your balance, your nails carving half circles in his skin.
His large hand grabs your face and you open your eyes to face him. The intense blue steel piercing right through you.
"I love you." Bucky's sweet voice clashes with his rough movements and it makes your entire body tingle.
"I love you." You repeat back to him breathless before he clashes your mouths together violently, tongues dancing together.
He pulls you in closer, wrapping his arm around you and burying his face in your wet hair. You hug him tightly as he plunges deep in you, making you feel the pleasure in your lower stomach.
Bucky growls loudly in your ear, increasing your own desire. Your walls tighten around him and he smirks, knowing you're close.
"Mine..." He whispers against your skin before bitting down on your neck softly.
Your legs start shaking as you climax, the familiar and welcomed fireworks taking over your body. All the products on the shower caddy fall with loud bangs from the energy released.
Bucky kisses you again hastily and rides your waves until he finishes himself, muttering profanities against your lips.
You stay in the same position for a few seconds, catching your breaths, until Bucky pulls out of you painfully, already leaving you wanting for more. He helps you down to your feet by the hand and guides you back into the shower.
"It's been a while since you made something fall." He snickers while picking up the products. "I was starting to get worried."
"Maybe you're losing your touch, Sargent." You tease him but the truth was you were much more in control with your magic now and very rarely did it escape you.
You still had to be careful to not overdue yourself but it was getting easier by the day and it made you much more confident.
Bucky grabs you and twirls you to go under the water with a cocky smirk.
"Such a brat." He kisses you gently, brushing the hair from your face.
"Prove me wrong?" You entice him, running your hands up and down his back.
The soldier laughs before picking up the shampoo bottle to wash your hair. "I just did."
You turn your back on him, letting him work away. "Maybe you need to do it again."
"Later, we have to get dressed now." He states quickly.
You frown your eyebrows and turn back around to let the water fall in your hair. "What for?"
Bucky shrugs his shoulder with forced causality. "It's date night."
"We had date night yesterday."
Your suspicion grows stronger. You spend everyday together and get out of the Tower for dinner every chance you can - whenever Sam or Peter or Nat don't make other plans for the group.
"Can't I take my girl out without an interrogation?" Bucky sighs, staring at you with a soft smile.
He's definitely acting weird but you brush it off, ignoring the uneasy feeling in your stomach. You finish your shower and go get dressed. Bucky doesn't offer you any further explanation and starts pacing around the room as soon as he's ready.
He wears a stunning black suit, the white button-down shirt open at the top to give him a more relaxed look. His dark hair is combed back into a small low bun. Gorgeous as ever.
Most of your clothes are in his closet and you choose the silky green dress you wore on your first date, pairing it with your sparkly gold heels this time. You style your hair into a half up, leaving a few strands to frame your face. Keeping the makeup simple, you draw in a thin eyeliner over the soft gold eyeshadow.
Bucky leans into the door huffing while you put on a few pieces of jewellery. He folds his arms, looking at you with an indecipherable expression.
"You're staring." You joke, trying to soften the mood.
"Because you're beautiful." Bucky answers immediately, his lips curling up a little bit.
"And?" You raise an eyebrow, prompting him to continue.
"And you take forever to get ready." He chuckles, relaxing his body a little.
"Rude." You stick your tongue out, brushing your hands through your dress to straighten it.
Bucky takes your hand as you walk down the hall to the elevator. You step in and notice him taking a couple of deep breathes while closing his fists in a ball a few times.
It's unsettling to see Bucky nervous, like when the flight assistants fasten their seat belts. It makes you anxious too and you keep stealing glances at him.
"Do you trust me?" He asks after a while.
"Yes." The answer is automatic even though you're extremely suspicious right now.
Bucky nods his head, more to himself than you. "When the door opens, close your eyes."
He sweeps you off your feet, holding you in his arms and you open your mouth in surprise. You can't argue because the elevator dings letting you know you've arrived. You close your eyes as Bucky asked, trying not to freak yourself out.
There's no sound except for Bucky's steps on the wooden floor and you fight against yourself to keep your eyes closed. You feel the cold air in your arms and legs as you hear a door squeak lightly.
Bucky puts you down to your feet and you finally shoot your eyes open. He took you to the balcony in the living room. The sun is setting behind the skyscrapers, giving the city a soft orange glow. There's fairy lights wrapped around the black steel fence and a single black table in the corner, a champagne bottle and two glasses rest on it, as well as a single white rose.
You look around, confused. Bucky places his hand on the small of your back, guiding you to the table.
"I uh, I though we were going out." You stammer through your words while Bucky pours the two of you champagne.
He chugs down his glass in a split second and pours himself another one.
"What's going on?" You slam your glass on a table with a little too much force.
"So, I asked Stark, obviously." Bucky starts rambling, speaking too fast. "Sam too because, you know, who else would I talk to about it? And I've been thinking about it for a while and it just makes sense."
You blink your eyes, recalling the last time Bucky was this nervous while talking to you. It leaves an empty feeling in your chest.
"Are you breaking up with me or something?" You laugh drily.
Bucky widens his eyes and waves his hand. "No! Never." He breathes out shakily. "I knew I should've written something down, I'm not good at this."
You tilt your head, still no less confused.
Bucky coughs slightly, clearing his throat and hopefully his head. He puts down his glass before he starts talking.
"You know how some people are just meant to be together? Some couples are just meant to be, it's like the entire universe conspires in their favor." Bucky locks eyes with you. "We're not like that."
"Okay, that definitely sounds like a break up speech." You fold your arms annoyed, trying to make out what direction this idiot is taking you.
Bucky shakes his head. "No. What I mean is, nothing and no one made it easy on us." You nod, encouraging him to continue.
"We had to go through brainwashing, assassinations, kidnappings, decades in a freezer and a whole lot of trauma to get here." He smiles and you relax your shoulders.
"For most of my life, I've been fighting someone else's battles. It wasn't until I met you that I started fighting for myself, for what I wanted. And everyday, we choose to fight for each other. It's not easy and it's not picture perfect, but we still choose to be together despite everything else."
"For the first time, I'm at peace with my life because every shitty part of it brought me to you. And as much as I still have to atone for myself, I must have done something right to be loved by you."
You feel your eyes sting with tears and place your hand in his chest. "Bucky, I-"
He raises a finger to stop you mid sentence and you notice his hand is shaking.
"I probably don't deserve it, don't deserve you. But if you let me, I promise to spend the rest of my life trying to be the man that you deserve to have."
Bucky slowly falls down to one knee and you watch breathlessly as he pulls a small red velvet box from his jacket pocket.
"Please, give me the chance to love you every single day until we die. Maybe even after."
He opens the box to show a pear shaped diamond attached to a thin golden band. The orange glow of the sun gives it an ethereal reflection, straight out of a dream.
"Will you marry me?" Bucky whispers his words softly like he's afraid of the answer.
You raise your hand to your mouth, speechless. His blue eyes look into yours anxiously, frozen in time. You take in every detail of the image in front of you so you can remember it forever.
You nod your head excitedly. "Yes... Yes!"
Bucky gets up in a jump, taking you into his arms and spinning you around in laughs. He kisses your mouth deeply and you feel yourself melt, complete and utter happiness washing over you.
The soldier places you down so he can slide the ring into your finger, a child-like grin taking over his face. He kisses you again, pressing against you firmly. You grab on to his jacket, wishing you could rip it off right there and then.
You hear a knock on the glass doors and look over to see Sam with the biggest smile ever. "Is it done? Can we come out now?"
You raise an eyebrow at Bucky and he laughs. "I was almost positive you'd say yes and they all wanted to be here."
He waves over at Sam and he slams the door open. Every member of the team walks out to meet you, each of them smiling and laughing cheerfully. You shake your head as Bucky smirks, keeping an arm wrapped around you.
Thor's the first to reach you, practically pushing over everyone else in his way. He flings his massive arms over you and Bucky, giving you both a tight hug.
"Ah, I'm so happy, my lady! May your marriage be as beautiful as Fólkvangr and as strong as Mjölnir!" He shouts in your ears making the both of you laugh. You have no idea what he means but you're not going to ruin his moment.
Tony quickly approaches you with Pepper and Morgan close by. The three of them congratulate you before Tony lands a hand on Bucky's shoulder and gives him a little shake.
"If you hurt her, I'll kill you. Slowly." His brown eyes don't waver for a second and you chuckle awkwardly, pulling on his arm to get him away from the soldier. Bucky nods solemnly, taking the threat very seriously.
Peter runs up to give you a quick hug and starts rambling on about how excited he is for the wedding, he's never been in one.
Over his shoulder you see Nat and Maria holding hands and throw her a thumbs up, to each she replies with a wink before holding up her glass to you.
Bucky squeezes you slightly, pulling your attention to the woman walking into the balcony. You excuse yourself to meet her.
Her eyes light up and fill with tears as soon as she sees you. "My baby's getting married!"
You hold your mom tight in your arms while the tears roll down your face as well.
"I'm so glad I get to see you get married, sweet pea. You're more than I could ever dream of."
You pull apart to look into her eyes, exactly the same as yours. "Thank you for being here."
The woman cups your face with both hands, breathing out shakily. "I'm so unbelievably proud of you, Y/N. What an amazing woman you turned out to be. I love you."
You hold on to her hand, leaning into the touch. "I love you too." You whisper back and you mean it.
As weird as it was, since you practically just met, you knew deep in your heart that you did love her. The kind of love you can only feel for a mother.
You tried to chat with everyone at the impromptu party, stealing glances at Bucky every now and again. The moon settled well into the sky and the conversations kept going enthusiastically in your small group.
"Hey, Y/N, come here!" Sam waves you over and puts his arm around your shoulders. "Tell these boys here who's gonna be the best man."
You look at Thor and Peter's annoyed faces and giggle subtly. "That's up to the groom, fellas, it's not my call."
Peter pouts and throws a fist down. "Aw man, Mr. Barnes will never choose me!"
"Don't be so sure, Spidey. You're the least annoying of the bunch." Bucky says, walking in with a whiskey glass in his hands.
"Well, at least I know I'll have a role in the wedding." Tony approaches the group and smirks cocky at Thor, being welcomed by a frown.
"And why's that?" You cross your arms with a grin.
Tony looks around him in an overdramatic fashion, pretending to be offended. "I'm obviously walking you down the aisle."
You giggle a little and try not to let the tears creep into your eyes again. "I'm supposed to ask you that, you know?"
"There's no need to ask, I already accepted." Tony chugs down on his drink and pulls two keys from his pocket. "By the way, this is an early wedding gift. It's a loft down the street."
You extend your hand to grab them, mouth open and eyes wide. "Tony, I don't... Wow..."
"It's very generous, you didn't have to do this." Bucky finishes your sentence for you, going to stand by your side.
"Uh, yes, he did." Sam snickers. "I gave him the idea, actually."
"We all did." Natasha laughs, joining you too.
You tilt your head confused and the group laughs.
"I got some noise complaints in these past few months." Tony waves off to a waiter behind you.
"You guys are loud." Sam explains simply and you lower your head blushing while Bucky tries to contain his laughter.
"Message received." You mumble out, twirling your new house keys in your fingers.
"On that lovely note," Tony says sarcastically. "Dinner's served, let's go inside."
The group leaves in giggles to take their places at the table the caterers put together in the living room but you stay behind, taking a moment to look out over the city.
The twinkly lights shimmer on your ring and you admire it for a few seconds before you feel a jacket slide in your shoulder and a kiss on the top of your head.
"How are you feeling?" Bucky wraps his arms around you lovingly and you lean back into him.
"Happy." You say, even though happy doesn't seem accurate enough.
"You better get used to it, Mrs. Barnes." He smiles and holds you in closer.
You can hear the voices of all your friends inside, chatting among them, happy simply because you're happy. Wrapped in the arms of the love of your life, overlooking the growing glow of the city, your heart beats lightly.
Life may never be easy but everything feels exactly right.
The end.
