"Ultron knows we're coming," Steve said. "Odds are we'll be riding into heavy fire, and that's what we signed up for. But the people of Sokovia, they didn't. So our priority is getting them out."
I nodded slowly. Wanda and Pietro volunteered, seeing as they'd lived in Sokovia and spoke the language, and the Sokovians trusted them.
"All they want is to live their lives in peace, and that's not going to happen today. But we can do our best to protect them. And we can get the job done and find out what Ultron's been building. We find Romanoff, and we clear the field. Keep the fight between us. Ultron thinks we're monsters and we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't just about beating him. It's about whether he's right."
I cracked my neck and stood up.
"Let's prove that pain in the ass wrong," I said.
"Ah! Bad language word!" Tony said.
I grinned as Steve face palmed.
We all got out of the jet. Pietro sped off to the Sokovian police station, and Wanda used her magic to make people evacuate. Bruce went off to find Natasha, and Thor, Vision, and Tony went off to find whatever Ultron was doing.
I stayed with Steve and helped civilians out of the city. I stood near the bridge and helped civilians along.
I was helping an elderly man across the bridge when a robot appeared and shot straight at me. I created a forcefield to protect myself and the man, and the beam bounced off and hit the robot. Hundreds of robots began to appear, flying towards us and climbing out of the floor.
I tore some of the robots apart by setting their gravitational pulls to three different places. I used electric batons to disable the robots and shot a few in the head. I also protected the civilians with forcefields.
I stumbled as the ground below me began to rumble. The bridge began to split in half as the city began to rise.
"What's going on?" I yelled into the comms, whacking a robot with a baton.
"Friday?" Tony asked.
"Sokovia's going for a ride," she replied.
The city continued to rise into the sky.
"Do you see?" Ultron asked. I killed the bot that was speaking but another took its place. "The beauty of it, the inevitability. You rise, only to fall. You, Avengers, you are my meteor, my swift and terrible sword and the earth will crack with the weight of your failure. Purge me from your computers, turn my own flesh against me. It means nothing. When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world will be metal."
Tony spoke to Friday trying to figure out how to stop the city from falling and killing everybody, and I fought against the robots. I used my powers against them and my weapons, and eventually I strayed away from Steve.
Four robots surrounded me. I got ready to attack when they were all destroyed in a blue blur. Pietro stopped to grin at me.
"I had that covered," I said.
Pietro cocked his head.
"You know, most people would say 'thank you,'" he said with a grin.
"Alright, you two, stop flirting," Clint said. "We have a mission here."
Pietro grinned at me one last time before running off, and I made my way back to Steve. He opened his mouth, and I shook my head.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, stay with an adult," I sighed.
Steve smiled at me before bashing a robot in the head. Another robot flew into Steve and pushed him into a car. I shot it down as it tried to fly away.
"Cap, you got incoming!" Tony said.
"Incoming already came in," Steve grunted. "Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely. The rest of us have one job: tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed, walk it off."
"Sounds legit, will do," I said.
I continued to fight the robots, my powers coming in handy quite a lot. I overheard Clint talking to Wanda, giving her a really good Avenger speech.
"Y/n, I'm gonna need you over here," Clint said.
I looked to Steve who nodded at me, and I teleported to Clint. He shot a few arrows at the robots, and I threw my forcefield-shields at them.
The doors to a building opened and Wanda walked through. She shot a magic blast at one of the robots, causing it to blast another one. She used her magic to grab the robot and rip it apart before crashing its carcass into another one. We all continued to fight until there were no more robots left.
"You're a total badass," I said, walking up to Wanda and bumping our shoulders.
Wanda smiled at me.
"You're not so bad yourself," she replied.
"Alright, we're all clear here," Clint said into the comms.
"We are not clear! We are very not clear!" Steve replied.
"Alright, coming to you," Clint said.
A blue blur appeared, rustling papers and dust before grabbing Wanda and running off.
"Keep up old man!" Pietro yelled behind him.
We both glowered in the direction of the Sokovian speedster and Clint raised his bow.
"Nobody would know," he said. "Nobody."
Clint and I started jogging to where the action was, making sure that there were no more robots along the way.
"The last I saw him, when Ultron was sitting on him," Clint continued, more to himself than me. "Uh...yeah, he'll be missed, that quick little bastard. I miss him already."
"Clint, your comms are still on," Tony said.
I heard Pietro laugh and I smiled a bit.
"Does anyone need my help?" I asked.
I heard Thor scream and grunt at the same time, so I decided to teleport to him. I arrived in a church just as Thor got smacked in the face with a brick.
"Oh, that's gotta hurt," I said, wincing.
Ultron turned to me, and I waved at him. I shot an energy blast at him, and he flew back, and my eyes widened.
"Holy shit! Thor, did you see that?" I yelled.
Before he could respond Ultron used his gravity thing on me and threw me against a wall.
"Ouch," I mumbled.
Ultron grabbed Thor by the throat, and I saw Vision summon Mjolnir. Vision looked at me and I nodded. I started getting a big energy blast ready.
"You think you're saving anyone?" Ultron asked. "I turn that key and drop this rock a little early and it's still billions dead. Even you can't stop that."
"I am Thor, son of Odin," Thor growled, "and as long as there is life in my breast, I am... running out of things to say! Are you ready?"
Ultron turned around and Vision smacked him with the hammer at the same time I let my blast fly. The combined force knocked him far, far away. Vision handed Thor his hammer back.
"It's terribly well balanced," Vision said, referring to Mjolnir.
"Well, if there's too much weight, you lose power on the swing, so," Thor said.
"And your power blast was exceptional," Vision said to me. "You made it the perfect size."
I grinned at him.
"You're my favourite now," I said.
Tony spoke to Friday about a way to save the city while Vision, Thor, and I protected the core.
"Thor, I got a plan!" Tony said.
"We're out of time. They're coming for the core," Thor replied, swinging his hammer at a robot.
"Rhodey, get the rest of the people on board that carrier," Tony said. "Avengers, time to work for a living."
I rolled my eyes and bashed a robot in the head with my forcefield-shield. A blue blur arrived to help with the fighting and Iron Man landed beside us too. Steve came in through a hole in the wall and Clint and Wanda walked in. Pietro ran over to his sister to make sure she was okay.
"Hey, Steve, you should have seen the energy blasts I did!" I said.
Steve grinned at me.
"I'm sure they were amazing," he said. "I mean, this place is still standing, and I'm assuming you didn't do this much damage to it."
I grinned and stuck my tongue out at him.
"Romanoff? You and Banner better not be playing 'hide the zucchini,'" Tony said.
I cleared my throat.
"Romanogers for life, tin head," I said.
Everyone looked to me, and Wanda tilted her head and grinned.
"You mashed their surnames together," she said.
I grinned and looked to Steve who went red and tried to hide behind his shield. A figure walked into the church, and I ran to Natasha. We collided and I hugged her tightly, and she buried her face in my hair.
"I am here, dorogoy," she said softly. "I am here."
I sniffled and pulled back. She grinned at me and then shook her head.
"What's the drill?" she asked Tony.
"This is the drill," he said, pointing to the core. "If Ultron gets a hand on the core, we lose."
Hulk arrived, smashing a couple of robots on his way in. He was followed by Ultron and a few robots. Thor took a step forward and laughed.
"Is that the best you can do?" he yelled.
Ultron held up a hand and hundreds of robots began running towards the church. I placed a forcefield around the core. We didn't want any surprises.
"You had to ask," Steve said, glancing sidelong at Thor.
"This is the best I can do," Ultron said. "This is exactly what I wanted. All of you, against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?"
"Well, like the old man said," Tony sighed. The two heroes glanced at each other briefly. "Together."
Hulk roared and the robots came running towards us. I armed myself with two pointy forcefields on my arms and used them to bash and stab robots. More and more flooded in, and I used my gravity to rip them apart.
Pietro ran through the robots, disabling them before they could reach anyone. He saved me quite a few times, as did his sister. Wanda crashed a few robots into ones that were attacking me.
We all worked in sync. Wanda suspended a robot in the air and Tony shot it; Clint shot at robots that got too close to Nat; Pietro disabled robots getting too close.
Everyone worked together. Like a team.
Ultron joined the fight and attacked Vision. Vision shot his laser beam at him, and Thor and Tony joined in. I looked closely at them to see Ultron starting to melt under the combined force. The heroes stopped with their assault and Ultron stood up, looking battered.
"You know, with the benefit of hindsight-"
Ultron didn't get to finish before Hulk punched him and he was knocked far away. The robots took one look at us and began to retreat, flying and running away.
"They'll try to leave the city," I said.
"We can't let 'em, not even one," Tony said. "Rhodey!"
I heard through the comms as Rhodey attacked the robots trying to leave. I watched as Vision left to help, and heard Rhodey's confusion at the sight of him.
I looked around at the rest of the Avengers. We still had a job to do.
Question of the chapter: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Answer of the chapter: I really like Wanda's powers and Carol's powers. I think they're both really cool, but I like Wanda's more because it's more precise.
