It was around 9pm. Madeleine had already had his dinner. Espresso was surprisingly still asleep. It was cold, very cold. Madeleine got up and walked downstairs, he wanted to take a walk around.
As Madeleine was walking around, he started shivering more. He didn't know why it was so cold tonight. He quickly ran back upstairs to the warm bedroom.
As Madeleine opened the door, he saw Espresso working at the desk. He sighed and walked over to Espresso, "Babe, you should get some sleep." He said, nudging Espresso's shoulder.
Espresso looked at him and shook his head, "No, I'm not tired anymore." Madeleine groaned, "Atleast close your eyes and rest, you don't have to sleep." Espresso still shook his head.
Madeleine scoffed, he picked Espresso up bridal style, "H-Hey! Put me down, idiot! I'm not done!" Espresso struggled to get out of Madeleine's grip, "Or what?" Madeleine looked at Espresso.
Espresso thought for a moment, "Or I will overwork myself even more. Just let me finish this, or else." Madeleine was slightly surprised. He thought for a moment before sighing and putting Espresso back on the ground.
Espresso took a seat back at the chair and sighed in annoyance, "Stupid idiot..." Madeleine trembled slightly when Espresso said that, he sounded much more annoyed than usual.
Madeleine walked over to the bathroom. He locked the door and headed over to the sink. Madeleine looked around, he saw himself in the mirror and looked down, ashamed.
"Does he hate me? I'm sorry for what I did.." He mumbled to himself. Madeleine noticed that the mirror was slightly shattered. He managed to grab one of the loose pieces out.
He groaned when the piece of glass cut through his skin. Then, he had an idea. Madeleine took the small glass shard and slowly started cutting himself.
"Espresso is annoyed of me, so I deserve this." He mumbled, cutting his skin deeper. He winced at the pain but continued to do it. Madeleine's eyes started to get watery, he was on the verge of tears.
When, he heard a loud bang outside. He dropped the glass shard on the ground and unlocked the door, heading into the bedroom. It was Espresso, he was banging his head on the table.
"E-Espresso!" Madeleine ran over to him and stopped him. Espresso looked up at him, "What? Don't worry about me, it's a habit. I never get hurt from it so it's fine, no worries." Madeleine shook his head, "Stop, even if it doesn't hurt you, you have to stop it."
Espresso sighed, "It's a habit, I can't stop it easily, alright?" Madeleine shivered a bit, "Stop, it scares me." Espresso thought for a moment, "Fine, fine. I'll stop it, but only because you asked me to, alright?"
Madeleine sighed in relief, he looked at his palm and noticed it was bloody. Espresso looked at Madeleine's palm and gasped, "What happened?!" He quickly stood up and examined Madeleine's palm.
"Uhm, it was a scratch. The bathroom mirror broke a bit and some of the pieces ended up scratching me.." Espresso didn't really believe him, but nodded, "Be more careful, idiot."
He kissed Madeleine's forehead and continued to work. Madeleine sighed in relief and went back into the bathroom. He slammed the door shut.
Madeleine looked over to the wall and smiled. His face was blank and his eyes were expressionless. He walked over to the wall and started punching it.
"You are a mistake, Madeleine." He said as he punched the wall, "A overconfident and cocky weirdo who only cares about himself." Another punch to the wall, "A useless brat who is only liked by his people because he was born in the Royal family." He punched the wall harder.
Espresso heard the punching and started whimpering. He crawled into the corner and started having a panic attack. He was reminded of them, his parents.
Madeleine punched the wall again, his hands were already bleeding. He wanted to go until the wall was cracked. Madeleine was about to punch the wall again when he heard crying and sobbing.
Madeleine recognised the voice. He unlocked the door and ran over to Espresso, hugging him.
"I-I'm so sorry, Espresso! I didn't mean to make you u-upset, I really didn't mean too!" Espresso was crying and shaking. Madeleine teared up at the sight of Espresso, he comforted Espresso more.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know that I-I would scare you, I'm so sorry.." Madeleine started crying with Espresso. He didn't notice the throbbing pain in his palm since he was so focused on Espresso.
"I'm such an idiot, I'm so sorry, I can't even keep you happy, I-I..." Madeleine's voice was shaky. Tears rolled down his face as he continued to comfort Espresso.
"I-If you can't...make me happy, why..did you stay...with me?.." Espresso looked at Madeleine, "I love you, and I thought I c-could make you feel happy and loved but I-I.." Madeleine continued to cry.
Espresso suddenly felt his heart drop to his stomach, he felt lightheaded. Madeleine looked at him, "Are you a-alright? Was it something I said, I-I'm sorry..." Espresso held his head, his tears were starting to dry up now.
Madeleine looked confused. Espresso suddenly collapsed. He started panicking, "HELP! ESPRESSO HAS FAINTED!"
A few hours later...
Madeleine was curled up into a ball in the corner of the room, hugging his Espresso plushie tightly. He was crying, whimpering and shaking.
Espresso sat up, he rubbed his head and looked over at Madeleine. Espresso gasped, he quickly got up and ran over to Madeleine.
"Madeleine! What's wrong?" Espresso hugged Madeleine, but he pushed him away.
"S-Stay away! I'll h-hurt you again if you don't.." Madeleine stuttered out, still crying. Espresso's heart broke, he didn't want to see Madeleine like this.
Madeleine backed up into the wall, hugging his Espresso plushie tighter. Espresso sighed, he stood up and left the room, wanting to give Madeleine some space.
He walked over to the living room downstairs and sat in the couch. A few minutes later, Madeleine walked up to him. Espresso moved further away from Madeleine, making Madeleine sadder.
"D-do you hate me, Espresso?.." Madeleine asked, tears rolling down his cheek. Espresso shook his head, "I wanted to give you space like you asked me to." Madeleine sighed in relief, "O-oh."
He wanted to sit next to Espresso, but didn't when he remembered what he did. Madeleine felt guilty, "I-I'm sorry.. for scaring...you...." Espresso shook his head, "No, it's my fault, if I didn't have my childhood trauma that my parents gave me, none of this would've happened."
Espresso patted the spot next to him, signalling Madeleine to come sit next to him. Madeleine walked over and sat down, still trying to distance himself from Espresso.
Espresso looked at him, "My parents, they would often scream and shout at me, sometimes they would even hit me." Madeleine looked over at Espresso, signalling that he was listening to him.
"And, I guess I never got over it. It was so long ago, and yet, I'm still crying about it." Madeleine looked down, "Even if it w-was your parents fault, I still m-made you cry.. I feel g-guilty.." Espresso placed his hand on Madeleine's shoulder, "It isn't your fault, its my fault for being so sensitive."
Madeleine moved closer to Espresso, leaning his head on his shoulder. Espresso wiped away some of Madeleine's tears, "I'm sorry for making you feel guilty about this."
Madeleine sat up, he rubbed his eyes, "N-no need to apologise.." Madeleine looked away, "I kinda had the same p-problem, except that it was just my d-dad." Espresso listened, "H-he would insult me and c-call me names, and if I a-annoyed him too much, he would hit me.."
Espresso noticed that Madeleine was starting to cry again, he hugged Madeleine and comforted him, "Shh, it's alright.." Madeleine hugged Espresso tightly, crying into his shirt.
"Is that why you're so insecure about yourself?" Espresso asked, looking down at Madeleine. He nodded slightly, Espresso scoffed, "I'll kill him, if it's the last thing I do.." He wiped away Madeleine's tears.
Espresso cupped Madeleine's face with his hand, Madeleine held Espresso's hand with his injured one, it was bandaged up but there was still a bit of blood bleeding through it.
"Madeleine, you idiot. Why did you hurt yourself?" Espresso took Madeleine's injured hand, "I-I made you mad at me, and I-I annoyed you.." Espresso smacked Madeleine's head gently.
"Idiot, that isn't a proper excuse to hurt yourself. Yes, I was slightly annoyed but not because of you, alright?" Madeleine flinched when Espresso kissed his injured hand.
"I didn't get annoyed at you, and I never will. I love you a lot, and I forever will, alright? So don't go hurting yourself because of me." Madeleine stayed silent.
Espresso lifted Madeleine's chin up and kissed him. Madeleine closed his eyes, kissing back. When Espresso pulled away, he petted Madeleine's head.
"It's late already, dork. Let's get some rest, alright?" Madeleine nodded. He was too tired from all the crying to say anything. Espresso carried Madeleine bridal style and walked back upstairs.
By the time they had reached their room, Madeleine had fallen asleep with the Espresso plushie in his arms. Espresso chuckled, he placed Madeleine down on the bed and layed down next to him, cuddling him.
"Goodnight, dork. I love you." He whispered in Madeleine's ear, making him smile slightly. Espresso closed his eyes and fell asleep, not realising that it had started snowing outside.
