(As of when I'm writing this Bruno was the most requested so here it is. For those of you who wanted Dolores she will be next.)
Y/N's POV
"I'm heading out now Ben!" I called out to my uncle.
"Okay bye!" His voice rang out through the house.
As I stepped outside the warm breeze hit my face. It was a little later in the day than I had realized. The usual morning chill had already melted into the bright sun's rays of heat.
Glancing at my watch it read 11:14 AM.
I had around 15 minutes until I needed to go to the Madrigal's house. I figured on my way I could take a quick detour to mine and Isabela's garden.
Walking along the rows of newly planted pots only a few plants had begun to sprout. But there was one in particular that seemed to be growing particularly fast.
Of course I couldn't remember what was in each pot off of the top of my head. So I read the small tag we had attached that had of the name of the plant on it.
Chamomile.
A smile formed on my face as I gazed at the small plants process.
Then a brilliant idea popped into my head, snickering to myself I pulled out a pen from my bag.
I quickly fixed the tag on the plant's pot.
Now it read,
C̶h̶a̶m̶o̶m̶i̶l̶e̶
Camilo
Satisfied with my work I began walking to the Madrigal's again.
If I'm honest I was excited to spend time with Bruno. Especially because he grew up really close with my dad and my uncle. Out of all of the Madrigals I still don't really know him all that well due to his nervous nature. Although I swear sometimes I relate to that man on a spiritual level though.
As I walked into the house, the door was already open for me, a voice came from the corner of the room.
"You're late L/N."
"Nice to see you too Camilo." I rolled my eyes at the boy sitting on the stairs.
With a smug grin he got up and wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me closer.
"May I?" He lifted my chin and brushed his thumb over my lips.
"Hmm maybe I should think about it." I teased making him frown.
"Anytime pretty boy." I finally answered .
Within seconds I felt his soft lips brushing against mine. Pressing deeper into a warm kiss.
"Am I interrupting something." An awkwardly quiet voice spoke.
"Nope." I said pushing Camilo away.
Sorry Milo.
I shot him an apologetic glance.
He seemed to get the message,
"Just my daily routine." He said casually.
"I'll leave." Bruno said quickly.
"Wait- no Bruno!" I held back the laughter in my voice.
Bruno stopped at my voice.
"I guess Ben doesn't have to tell Bruno about that one time." Camilo joked randomly.
"Camilo for fu- um gods sake, shut up." I desperately failed to censor myself.
"You mean when you snuck out?" Bruno asked.
"Bingo." Camilo laughed, "I guess Ben already told you then."
"Of course he did..." I groaned mentally hoping both sides of Ben's pillow are warm tonight.
"Camilo!" Someone shouted from upstairs catching all of our attention.
"Alright, I guess I'll leave you alone with Bruno now." Camilo smiled, "Bye Y/N."
With that Camilo left the room to go find whoever had needed him.
Neither of said something for a moment,
"Er-"
"So-"
We both stopped as we heard the others voice.
"Sorry I'm not good at this." Bruno apologized quickly.
"Me too, socializing is hard." I said.
"I'm gonna be honest with you kid, I have no clue what I'm doing. Mirabel and Camilo asked me to do this and I felt like I couldn't say no. I didn't want to disappoint them." Bruno awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck.
"That's fine."
"Sorry for disap- wait it's fine? But I'm supposed to help you with understanding your gift or something."
"That doesn't matter."
"So what are we gonna do for the next..." he paused to check the time, "6 hours?"
I thought for a moment, but I already knew exactly what I wanted to do.
"Rats." He looked at me uncertainly, "I wanna see your rats."
"You sure?"
I nodded my head,
"Okay. Most of them stay in my room so we could go there I guess." He said and I gave him a thumbs up.
As I walked into his room I was pretty shocked. My feet had sunken into the sand floor and there were,
So.
Many.
Stairs.
"Why is there so many stairs?" I questioned.
"Uh I actually don't know." Bruno responded.
"Oo what if it represents the length of time, or it just makes you think about the future. Because you know you wish you could just be up there already instead of walking up all those stairs."
"It could." I looked over to him expecting him to be amused by my dumb idea but he looked genuinely interested.
Suddenly I heard squeaking echoing around the large room. Then with a thump a small rat fell directly onto Bruno's head. Bruno put his hand out and just as he did another rat fell onto the palm of his hand.
He took the first ray off of his head and held them both in his hands.
"Let's see the one on the right is Maria and on the left is Alejandro." He held them out to me.
The one named Maria was a dark brown with little spots of white, while the one named Alejandro was just a light brown.
"Do you want to hold one of them?" He barely said before I shook my head excitedly.
Bruno moved Alejandro to my open hand gesturing for it to move. The rat sniffed my hand cautiously before stepping off of Bruno's hand and onto mine.
We both sat down on the sand with the rats in our hands.
"Cute." I smiled at the small creature.
"I'm surprised you think that, most people think rats are gross. Or that they have diseases. Or both." Bruno said.
"Well it's true some carry diseases, but still, there's definitely an unnecessary stigma against them. They're very intelligent for the most part and also affectionate."
"You know quite a bit about them, don't you?"
"Eh... let's just say I begged my mom to let me have a pet rat when I was 12. It obviously didn't happen but I still learned a lot from it."
Bruno laughed and I turned my attention back to Alejandro. I gave the small animal a gentle pat on the head with my thumb.
"You know, you may not believe this but you're really brave." Bruno said abruptly.
"Because I'm fine with rats?" I asked.
"What? No. When you stood up to your mother. That was awfully brave of you. I don't think I could ever do that in the way you did."
"Oh. Well. Normally I wouldn't be able to do that. But I guess in the heat of the moment I kinda just snapped. Part of me wishes I hadn't. Don't get me wrong I'm glad that I did it and everything is out of the bag. But a small part of me is terrified of what she'll do next. There's no way for me to guess what she'll do because I've never been in this circumstance before." I admitted.
"Look kid nothing stays the same forever. Whether good or bad. Even if you're stuck in a sticky situation now, it'll be over in what feels like no time at all. Trust me, I spent 10 years in the walls of this house hiding from my own family."
"Thanks Bruno." I smiled warmly at him.
"Eh it's no big deal." He insisted.
"Yeah sure, anyways, I'm curious about how you met my dad and uncle."
"Well... we don't need to get into that."
"Um- yes we do."
"Alright fine," I was a bit surprised at how fast he gave up.
He looked over to see me attentively waiting.
He couldn't get out of this.
"So, it's hard to remember, but it was me and sisters gift ceremony. Since we were the first Madrigals to get gifts it was all pretty new. The town was still small. You're dad and Ben were still pretty young at the time. I believe F/N was 4 and Ben was 3. From what I remember I was actually pretty annoyed by your father at first. He kept bothering me and my sisters with a bunch of questions. But that's was just the first time we met. We did actually become friends until like four years later. So I was around 9 at the time while Ben and F/N were 8 and 7. Your dad just being himself, he was a social butterfly. Quite the opposite of me and Ben. They were really the only people who talked to me about something other than visions. I liked that and we started getting closer. Although I'm older than F/N, he was always like an older brother figure to me. He's a natural leader. So yeah that's the story, not really eventful."
"Why did my dad leave the Encanto? I don't get it. He seemed like he was happy here, so how could my mom have convinced him to leave?" I asked.
Bruno's face dropped slightly,
"Oh, well, when your father met your mother he instantly fell in love. He worshipped her very existence. Ben and I didn't think much of it at first, but as F/N got closer to her. He got distant. Ditching us to go on dates. We didn't mind though, I mean the man's allowed to have a love life. She started feeding her family's ideas into F/N's head. Ben didn't openly express it but he hated M/N. Honestly I did too. But being only us who noticed, neither of us were confident enough to confront him about it. Then their mother, or your grandmother, died a couple weeks before him and M/N's wedding day. I think that's why he felt there was no reason to stay anymore. The night before the wedding he told me and Ben about his plan. It ended up with Ben arguing with your father but the next day it was almost like it never happened. Then not long after they got married F/N and your mother left the Encanto. Ben was livid, he hated your father for it, but eventually he ended up just accepting it. For the next couple years F/N visited a couple times, but when you got your gift. He never came back. Until recently of course."
"Jeez, how did you feel?" I asked.
"Uh- I miss him but I still had Ben so it wasn't too terrible. It affected Ben a lot more, cause F/N is his brother and all." Bruno laughed awkwardly.
"Thanks for telling me, I would've asked Ben, but I don't think he's allowed to tell me much."
"Yeah."
"You and Ben are like besties right?" I changed the topic.
He nodded.
"So tell me all of the embarrassing things Ben did so I can tease him about it." I exclaimed.
"That is something I'm willing to share." Bruno laughed.
