"The saddest people smile the brightest". That's the way it's always been for Sodapop Curtis. He used to be a happy, go lucky 16 year old growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He had the most beautiful girlfriend, perfect family, great friends. But that all changed very quickly for him. It's true, you really never know how long the people you love will be around. His mom and dad died in an auto wreck. Sandy got pregnant and left. Johnny and Dallas died. It all just happened too fast. It's not fair. And this feeling in Sodapop's heart grows worse everyday. There is no cure for heartache, is there?
Aaliyah Waters moved to Tulsa from Chicago with her widowed mother, Charlotte and her baby brother Alex. After her dad died in combat, her mom needed a fresh start. Aaliyah always struggled being in a military family. Especially since her dad is her hero. Her mom never even leaves the bedroom. Aaliyah is basically Alex's "mom".
Will Aaliyah be the one to build Sodapop up? Or will it be too late?
