Chapter 1: Shifting (As a Concept) For Dummies

By cantrushhgreatness

Hello! I'm Zhiyuan, and I've been a shifter since early 2021. I have successfully shifted multiple times, and I made this ถถา๕ษ็ว๘ story thing because I'd been seeing lots of misinformation both on and off this site. This was disappointing because that type of misinformation very often discourages and stomps the motivation of people trying to shift! So here I am, offering my (not very) expert advice. I hope it will give anybody reading some basic information they may have been missing or at least someplace to jumpstart their further research and learning!

All of the sources I used on this chapter will be linked at the very bottom of this page.

Reality shifting is described as "The spiritual practice of "transferring" or "shifting" one's awareness to a fictional universe or a parallel universe."

In simpler terms, this means that the act of reality shifting is the spiritual belief that we, humans, can move our awareness or subconscious to other universes or realities.

This belief is colloquially known as shifting, however, it is also commonly referred to as reality switching, quantum jumping, moving realities or other combinations of words like this.

★ How can this even exist?

The idea of shifting realities as we know it today is very popular among many different types of people with different beliefs surrounding how it works and what it means to them. Two of the most popular theories are the Multiverse Theory and the Consciousness Theory, although undoubtedly there are many more out there.

The Multiverse Theory suggests that our universe, with all of its galaxies and stars, may not be the only one. Instead, there may be entirely different universes outside of our own, to an infinite amount. Many people who follow the Multiverse Theory believe that there may be many universes that have completely different laws of physics along with their own galaxies and stars and even their own intelligent civilizations. In a nutshell, this theory believes that there are infinite universes that already exist, and when we shift, we shift to one of the already pre-existing universes.

The Consciousness Theory suggests that reality only exists as you perceive it and that when you shift, it is as if you are "creating" another reality, that the universe does not exist as a separate thing or entity, but rather a reflection of your internal consciousness.

These may be confusing, and you do not have to subscribe to a specific theory, and may have your own! This is here to explain what many shifters believe.

Contrary to popular anti-shifter belief, these realities are just as real as the reality you currently reside in. It feels weird to try and understand immediately, but eventually, it will make sense. Every one of your senses you have in this reality is the same in another reality.

This is why it is important to specify that reality shifting is different from dreaming or lucid dreaming. While those things are not completely tangible, shifting is. In lucid dreams, you can control your environment, but in reality you cannot. It is also not hallucinating nor delusions, because those present differently as well. To say it is a mental illness is an insult to those with actual mental illness.

★ Terminology

Below are some terms used by shifters in and outside of the shifting community that you may have heard of and are curious about the meanings.

dr = desired reality

The reality that you intend to shift to.

cr = current reality

The reality that you currently reside in.

or = original reality

This term relies on the idea that there was a reality you were in "originally", as many people, shifters and not, believe that with every decision you make, every turn you take, you shift, even if it is not monumental or noticeable. Therefore, an 'OR' usually refers to the reality one was in before they shifted without intent.

safeword

A safeword is a word that people use inside their desired reality to return to their original reality. This may be any word or phrase and is something memorable to the person, but also something they wouldn't use in everyday conversation. There also needs to be an intent to return to your original reality when using the word. This can be a quicker and more reliable way to "shift" back to your original reality quickly and easily.

switch word

A switch word is pretty much the same thing as a safeword under a different name. This distinction is made as a switch word is oftentimes used to return to somebody's waiting room or a different DR instead of their original reality.

safe action and switch actions

A safe action/switch action is pretty much the same thing as a safeword/switch word under a different name. This distinction is made as it is used in place of a safeword or switch word. Instead of using a word or phrase to return to one's original reality, waiting room or desired reality, one will use a specific action or combination of actions. This may be any action or string of actions that is memorable to the person, but also something they wouldn't use in everyday life. There also needs to be an intent to return to your OR, WR or DR when doing the action/s. This can be a quicker and more reliable way to "shift" quickly and easily.

You can have any combination of the above 4 things or none at all, it is up to you and what you are comfortable with. These are just a way to tell your subconscious that you are ready and willing to leave your DR.

 Claims

Claims are a thing that many shifters use, although many do not. A claim is usually a picture or idea that describes or shows what you will have in your desired reality. These often take the form of:

fc = face claim: A claim for one's face. Many people will choose someone, whether it be someone they know, a stranger or a celebrity and "claim" that person's face as their face in their desired reality.

vc = voice claim: A claim for one's voice. Many people will choose someone, whether it be someone they know, a stranger or a celebrity and "claim" that person's voice as their voice in their desired reality.

Or other claims such as body, handwriting, singing, dancing, rapping, stage presence, fighting, etc. They are all pretty much exactly what you think. There are also things called resemblance claims which generally refer to faces. They are very similar to face claims, except you don't look like a carbon copy of them, just vaguely similar.

 Time ratios

A time ratio is the difference in time between your DR and CR. They are used commonly by shifters not wanting to miss out on important things in their CR lives. They are helpful if you only want to shift for a night but don't want to spend just two or three hours in your DR, for instance.

Keep in mind that a drastic time ratio, such as "1 second CR = 1 month DR" can be exhausting for you if or when you shift back. Know your limits.

Examples of time ratios:

- 1h cr = 1 week dr

- 1h cr = 1 month dr

- 5 min cr = 1 day dr

︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶︶⊹︶︶୨୧︶︶⊹︶

★ Scripts

A script is a (usually) written outline of your DR. They generally include elements such as where you are shifting, what you're like in your DR and other information.

You can write scripts anywhere whether it be a physical or digital copy, and you can be as detailed as you like. but you do NOT need a script to shift. Your subconscious knows what you want.

Some shifters use Notion script templates, but this is not necessary, just something the community bonds over. If you want to check these out, you can search for them on apps like TikTok very easily.

★ How do I shift?

One way to shift is through intention. An intention is a mental state in which a person commits themselves to a course of action, and in the context of shifting, an intention is a commitment to wherever you want to shift. An intention usually sounds like "I'm going to shift to ___ dr" or "I intend to shift to ___ dr".

Another way is through the Law of Assumption, also known as LOA/LOASS. Law of Assumption is a mindset developed by Neville Goddard as a method of reframing one's outlook. By expecting success and good things, success and good things come to you. This law is often used as a manifestation technique alongside other laws such as the Law of Attraction in manifesting circles and communities. The Law of Assumption states that, by believing that the thing you desire is already in your life, or assuming so, it will come to be and you will manifest it into your life. You will learn that a lot of manifesting concepts overlap with shifting concepts due to certain parts of shifting being manifestation or manifestation-adjacent!

The way to shift depends on the person you speak to and what works best for them, and for you. A lot of shifting can be trial and error. Some people shift on the first try, and some people take months and years. It's all a part of everybody's journey. Some people shift on accident, and if you believe that every decision made is a shift, there you go.

 Methods

Methods are something that is often mentioned in shifting circles, especially on apps like TikTok. A method is generally a set of steps you can follow to guide you into your DR.

Methods are like a key to your reality for many people. You can get to your DR without a method, and it all depends on the person. There are thousands upon thousands of established methods with different steps and requirements all over the internet, but you can always create your own and tailor them to get the results you desire. What works for others may not work for you, and vice versa. Playing around with methods is fun and like an experiment, although you do not have to do it if you don't want to. (I don't use methods tbh)

There are two different types of methods: awake methods and asleep methods.

Awake methods: Methods you use while being awake and not involving sleep in any part of the method. This type of method is good for shifts not at night or when one does not want to sleep.

Asleep methods: Methods you use while being awake, then falling asleep and waking up in your dr. This type of method is good for nighttime shifts or people who might be intimidated by awake methods.

Affirmations

Affirmations play a pretty crucial role in some methods, and if you don't know what that is, diving into methods involving them may be confusing. Affirmations in New Thought and New Age terminology refer primarily to the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment—fostering a belief that a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything.

Affirmations are very helpful in shifting and manifestation, and even just general fair-ground things like mindfulness and mental health.

Affirmations can be obscure or extremely specific. Some examples of affirmations are things like "I am shifting" "Shifting is real" "I'm a master shifter" "I'm in my DR". This can also play into Law of Assumption.

Subliminals

Subliminals are a very common topic in many different communities including the shifting and manifestation communities. Subliminals are audios that generally contain hidden affirmations and are used for shifting and manifesting. They often include music or other sounds such as rain or murmuring.

There are different kinds of subliminals for different purposes, and they are very easy to find on apps like YouTube. It is important to be careful when listening to subliminals created by other people as not all subliminal makers have good intentions. Some may put bad affirmations in, or just include things you don't want, for example, witchcraft, which is a valid form of subliminal, but not something everyone wants.

Most trustworthy subliminal makers put the affirmations they make in the video description or pinned comment, but it is still important to check comments to see other people's thoughts and experiences with the subliminal. Trust your gut.

★ What the F* is a Clone?!

Clones, for an extreme lack of a better word, is literally just your body. It's just you. There has been a lot of fearmongering and misinformation going around for years regarding clones, and due to the slightly creepy nature of the name, there's no doubt it would spook some people out. but DO NOT FEAR! "Clones" are nothing sinister or evil, and not literal clones as in another identical version of yourself you made in a machine, no. It's just you.

When you shift, you are moving your subconscious into the other reality, whichever theory you believe in notwithstanding. You don't disappear nor teleport away from your CR, you still exist there physically, as you do in every reality. (if you follow the multiverse theory; people who follow the consciousness theory generally don't subscribe to the idea of "clones") This is called a clone because nobody could be assed thinking of a better word.

Your clone is just you. It does everything you would. No, it won't kill anyone. It's a bit of a difficult idea to wrap your head around, so if you don't get it, just let it go. It doesn't matter.

★ Waiting Rooms

The moment we've all been waiting for (pun unintended), waiting rooms. Waiting rooms are often shortened to WR for convenience.

A waiting room is just a specific type of DR, generally a slower one with no "plot" or important big life decisions to deal with. Just a slow, calm place to rest. Many people use waiting rooms as a stepping stone to prepare themselves before jumping into the hustle and bustle of their regular DR, and generally use a WR as their own space to spend as much time and do whatever they want there without responsibilities or rules, although this is not the only use of a WR out there. Many people also use it to study.

Many people purposely make their WR as nice, calm and slow as possible, usually with every single need of theirs catered for. Waiting rooms aren't a requirement when shifting, but some people think it's convenient to have, so try it out if you want.

★ Common Misconceptions

This section is dedicated to debunking popular misconceptions and myths popular on 2020-2022 shifting TikTok, or Shifttok.

1- You can't move during a method. If you are doing a method and are uncomfortable, being uncomfortable will distract you more than any noise or interruption will. Some methods suggest perfect stillness, but we've always experienced the sudden itchy left pinky toe when we are supposed to be still! Being comfortable is all that matters, to be honest, you can move, itch yourself etc without distracting yourself from doing your method or whatever, so it's no big deal. And if you do accidentally get distracted by moving, you can always try again.

2- You must stay hydrated, or otherwise you won't be able to shift. Drinking water is something you should be doing whether you are shifting or not. It will not impact your ability or likelihood to shift, but will increase your likelihood of not getting a splitting headache randomly.

3- You need to have a script and method to shift. Your subconscious knows what you want and where you want to go. You have the power in this situation. Scripts and methods are simply tools, and they may not work for everyone. This type of thinking holds many people back. Not everybody enjoys scripting nor doing methods (myself very much included).

4- You need to do a night routine or a skincare routine to shift. Again, this is a case of something you should be doing for your health, not depending on if you're shifting or not. If you want to do skincare or a night routine, go for it, but do not feel pressured into it.

5- The Raven Method is the one method that works the best. Most people have grown away from this thought process and it has become a running joke in the community about how Not Good the Raven Method is for many people. The Raven Method is a method involving lying perfectly still on your back in a starfish position and counting to 100. This works for some people, and doesn't for others. Methods aren't a 'One-size-fits-all'.

6- Using a face claim is weird/If you use a face claim you're insecure. This all comes down to personal opinion. I don't personally think that face claims are bad, because you can shift and do what you want. But a good tip is blurring faces or not openly posting your face claim saying its you if you have one, and be wary of anti-shifters potentially stumbling upon it. Make sure to always block anti-shifters instead of engaging kids! And again, if you want to use a face claim, its up to you, and if you don't, that's also up to you!

7- Shifting Police. The "Shifting Police" was a very weird internet phenomenon where one person claimed that in their DR, a police force confronted them, saying that shifting realities is illegal and kicked them out of that reality. This is very imaginative, and I mean, it probably does exist in a reality somewhere lol, but they aren't like a celestial police force patrolling the barriers of universes to make sure no dirty shifters get past! That's not happening. Nobody will arrest you and send you back to your CR, that doesn't happen. In fact, most people will not know you shifted unless you tell them, because it's not really on anybody's radar, unless you end up on those "Celebrities I think shifted here" TikToks.

8- I brought [Insert Object] back from my DR. I truly hate to break it to you all, but it is impossible to bring back physical items from your DR, as you are only shifting your mind, not your body. Although, you can bring back knowledge from your DR, of course! Many shifters have testified to learning languages or other specific things in their DRs and then being able to do it in their CR. This is why many people shift to Studying DRs or waiting rooms to study.

9- I came back from my shift, and everybody was asking me where I had been. Top 10 lies of the century, sorry! When you shift, your body doesn't disappear, it's still there. Nothing changes except your subconscious mind is in another reality.
