WILL POV-

---- 1:20 PM ----

Will couldn't contain his nervous energy as he paced around the house, doing anything he could to keep his mind at ease; he cleaned his entire room and the living room. He put away his clothes and dusted anywhere he could; Why? Because if he didn't, he would actually turn into a molten pile of goo.

His thoughts crowded with the upcoming date with Mike; he looked at his watch, ten minutes! How could he deal with this anticipation for ten more minutes? He bit his nails out in a nervous habit; his mother always told him not to do that but right now he didn't care, it was the only thing distracting him.

His phone buzzed in his pocket causing him to jump, alerting him to a text. Taking his phone out, he saw Robin's name pop up on screen. The brunette's palms were sweaty as he unlocked the phone, replying to the text; she was the first person Will told about the date, and Robin took it as her civil duty to give dating advice, curtesy of Steve.

------

DIRECT MESSAGE; ROBIN BOBIN 🎺

Don't stress,

It's gonna be fine.

I'm literally freaking out

What if I mess up?

🙄

Its literally not that deep

Just breathe

That's easy for you to say

You're not the one going on a date with Mike

Nor do I wish to be on a date with Mike

😒

Oh come on,

You're so cute,

Getting all flustered over a date

ROBIN

Whattttttt

Its gonna be fine

You could stab him and Mike would apologise for bleeding on you

I'm not stabbing him.

Ur no fun 😔

We've been over this.

In that moment the doorbell rung, and the brunette understood what that meant: Mike was here. Quickly, he cut the conversation short, saying goodbye to Robin as she wished him luck.

Will's anxiety went through the roof; his heart leaping into his throat. He could hear his own heartbeat pounding, chiming with each thud. Sweat trickled down his forehead, forming on his brow as he wiped it with the back of his hand. Will quickly placed his phone in his back pocket.

He walked over to the door, taking a deep breath as his hands trembled while touching the doorknob, and the thought of facing him in his current state made his stomach churn.

Slowly turning the doorknob, Will swung open the door, seeing the ravenette standing on the other side, looking equally excited and anxious. Mike opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Will's shaky, "Hey Mike," he said, his voice cracking.

The ravenette's eyes softened, absorbing the brunette's anxious expression, quickly raising a hand to the air awkwardly smiling, "Hi."

The pair fell into an awkward silence for a moment, as Will decided to be the one to start talking, albeit with a weird question, "Was the trip here, okay?" he asked, mentally cursing himself for doing so; of course, the trip was okay, Mike had done it thousands of times before.

Mike's response did nothing to ease the awkwardness; his words tumbling out in a rush, "Yeah, I was sorta early because I didn't want to be late, but then I worried you might not be ready yet, so I stood in the bushes until now."

Will's brows furrowed as Mike waved his arms around, realising just how unintentionally creepy that sounded. He tried to clarify, but it only managed to make himself more flustered, "Uh, I mean, not in a creepy way." he hesitantly explained, "I was just making sure I wasn't too early and so I hid in the bushes for a few minutes, but not like a 'hiding in the bushes' hiding. More like 'standing next to them' hiding. Not that bushes are a good hiding space, really..."

The brunette couldn't help but laugh at the ravenette's nervous rambling, which prompted Mike to laugh too, allowing the tension to ease slightly, "Well next time I need to hide in anyone's bushes, I'll call you for tips."

Mike smiled in relief, "Let's just forget the bushes. So shall we get going?"

Will nodded, calling out, "Mum. I'm going!" he screamed.

However, to his surprise, Joyce rushed over to them, immediately launching herself into a diatribe of commands, "Make sure you stay safe, and look both ways before you cross the road, and call me if you need anything or a ride home. Remember curfew at 9:00," engaging them in her motherly concerns,

"Yes mum," Will smiled a tad nervous as Joyce hugged her son for a few seconds before letting go, but then, to everyone's surprise, Joyce also hugged Mike tightly, making Will blush furiously embarrassed.

A few moments later, Joyce let go, not mentioning the date to Mike, unsure if the ravenette was told that Joyce knew of their plans or if it was supposed to be a secret. She simply wanted their safety and wellbeing while secretly enjoying the sight of her son and his crush heading out for a special day. With a warm smile she wished them a good time, "You boys have a wonderful time today, and remember to have fun!" she said in a gentle tone, watching them with concern close to her heart.

The brunette blushed a deep shade of red, just wanting to get out of this embarrassing situation, trying to push Mike out the house, "We are going to go now. Love you mum, bye." He said shovelling Mike out the door,

"See you Mrs Byers," the ravenette replied equally as red as the brunette,

"Love you both!" she smiled, watching them depart from the house,

After walking a few steps away, Will looked over at Mike, his face flushed, "Sorry about that," he mumbled, "Mum's just overprotective,"

"It's alright, it's sweet." Mike couldn't help but lightly chuckle. "She knows this is a date, doesn't she?"

"Um..." the brunette nervously giggled, "I didn't mean to, she just saw your note and well..."

"It's fine." the ravenette smiled, "I guessed so anyway."

"Have you... told anyone?" Will questioned,

"I told El that I wanted to date you and I was going to tell Nancy but..." Mike trailed off, pausing at the end of his sentence.

"It was hard." Will finished his sentence

"Yeah!" Mike nodded, "And it's so stupid because I know that she will support me but it's always like what if she doesn't? You know?" he confessed in a ramble.

Will passed a reassuring smile and nodded, understanding completely, "It's okay. We all have our own pace when it comes to things like this; it can be tough to open up, but the important thing is that you tell her on your terms. You shouldn't feel pressured to."

The ravenette felt grateful for the understanding and support, changing the subject, "Are you excited for our date?"

"I don't know yet, it depends on what we do next." the brunette mocked,

Mike grinned at Will's playful response, "Well that's a secret!" he winked,

"Come on, Mike!" Will said in a sweet, exaggerated tone, hoping Mike would spill, "You know you can't keep secrets from me. I'm dying to know what you've planned,"

Mike chuckled, trying his best to resist Will's adorable antics, "Nice try but I'm not revealing a thing. It's a surprise!"

Will sighed dramatically, "But how can I be excited if I don't even know what we're doing?"

Mike's resistance was crumbling as he slightly caved, "Fine, I'll give you one tiny hint. We'll need to take a bus there?"

The brunette furrowed his brows in uncertainty, "A bus? That narrows it down... slightly."

Mike nodded, pleased the questions were done for now, "It will be fun, just be patient."

The brunette pouted but it went missed by Mike as they approached the bus stop, seeing the bus already waiting. The ravenette didn't want to miss the bus so he grabbed Will's arm to quickly arrive at the doors before they close. Reaching the doors, the ravenette took out his money, paying for both fares.

"Umm, thanks Mike," Will thanked sincerely, appreciating Mike's gesture.

Boarding the bus, they found that it was quite full, so they had to stand. Will stood close to Mike, both grabbing the handrails as the bus roared to life with little room to breathe. They swayed with the motion of the vehicle; the road slightly bumpy due to the potholes: someone really needs to fill them.

The ride was smooth enough for a while until the bus screeched to a halt at a red light. Will stumbled slightly, caught off guard by the movement, but before he could regain his footing Mike was quick to react, reaching out, gently placing a hand on Will's waist, steadying him.

Mike asked with concern, "Are you okay?" he said soft; they were so close now that Will could feel the warmth of Mike's body through his t-shirt.

The brunette's cheeks flushed a deep shade of red, unable to help but stammer as he replied to Mike's question, "I-I'm, um, good... I mean, fine. Everything's fine."

"Good!" the ravenette smiled, keeping his hand on Will's waist. The constant touch sent a pleasing shiver down the brunette's spine, and he couldn't deny the fluttering feeling his stomach. It was as though their closeness magnified all his senses, making every little movement, every brush of skin, electrifying.

The traffic light turned green and the bus jolted forwards, causing Mike to gently squeeze Will's waist, ensuring his date doesn't fall or stumble once more.

The brunette's heart skipped a beat as he swallowed hard, trying his best to regain composure but finding it challenging with Mike's warm fingers on him.

The bus ride felt both incredibly short and endlessly long as they reached their destination. It was as if the world only held the two of them.

Finally, they reached their stop and Mike helped the brunette step off the bus. As they stood on the sidewalk, Will couldn't help but feel a bubbling feeling inside of him.

"Let's go!" The ravenette announced, leading Will through the bustling streets, bursting with energy. Each step built up the small boy's anticipation, feeling as though he might explode if they don't arrive in the next few minutes.

And yet, after a few streets of nervously walking, the ravenette stopped before a large building with a bright smile on his face, as he pointed, "We're here!"

The brunette's eyes widened as he looked over at the building before them, reading the sign aloud with a furrowed brow, "Ice skating?"
