CHAPTER FIVE
"sometimes a fantasy + what am i"
season three episode three + four

WHEN MARK Sloan's phone rang and Addison told him about the woman he loved, he wasn't sure what do to. She was hurt. She had their baby already. But he didn't go. Not until Addison called him a second time a few days later.

This time he decided to go to Seattle. "Gate 113 to Seattle, Washington boarding now," the loudspeaker announced. Mark Sloan walked his ass onto the plane, not sure if he was going to be turned away or not.

ALLI HAD FINALLY gotten discharged. Mila got cleared, too. She was packing up her stuff to leave, to go back home to Meredith's house. Meredith told her that her and Cristina had set up the crib for Mila.

She was so grateful to have friends like them. They weren't even into all the sappy stuff, yet they did all this for Allison. They truly were the best.

Somebody cleared their throat behind her. Allison turned around, just to be met with the last person she wanted to see. "Alli. . ." he said, slowly.

There he was. Mark Sloan. Back in Seattle to rain hell upon her. "What are you doing here?" His eyes were fixed on the baby cradled in her arms.

"What's the baby's name?" he asked, walking closer to the both of them. His eyes softened at the sight of his daughter.

"It's not yours, Mark," Alli lied, her teeth clenched. He saw right through her. He knew it was his. She always clenched her teeth when she lied. He remembered these kinds of things. He remembers everything about her.

"Don't even bother lying, Alli. She's mine and I know she is," he scoffed. "Will you please just tell me what her name is?"

"You don't have the right to come back here and ask me about her. You cheated on me. You cheated on me when I thought you changed. I thought you would never do that to me," the blonde's voice shook.

Mark sharply inhaled, "I don't love Addison, I love you. If I could undone it all, I wou―"

She chuckled sarcastically with tears in her blue eyes, "But you can't undo it. It's already been done."

"But that's why I'm back. For you―" he tried to explain.

"Go home, Sloan!" she shouted.

"You called me!" he argued back.

"I was shot and in labor, you think I actually called you?" she rolled her eyes. "Listen, I've been discharged, so I'm going home."

"You could go back to our home. Our apartment," he tried to compromise. It was hopeless and slightly embarrassing.

"Maybe one day, when pigs fly," she shrugged and brushed past him, hitting him hard in the shoulder successfully. "Bye, Sloan."

His opposite hand went up to the his right shoulder, "I'm not gonna give up on us, Alli. I love you and I'll do everything I can to try and get you to forgive me." He shouted, watching her leave. He couldn't chase after her. He didn't have the right.

"Whatever," the young Shepherd mumbled to herself, ignoring every word he said as she left the hospital.

ALLISON ENTERED THE shared home to be greeted in the living room by George, Izzie, and Meredith. "Fucking Mark is back!" she exclaimed in frustration. "Oh no, I hope I didn't wake Mila." The little girl was sleeping in her carrier.

"He is?" George and Izzie muttered in confusion.

"Mark's back?" Meredith asked in shock, getting up to help Allison with her hospital bag.

She sighed deeply, "Yes. He's back and he's ready to get me back and I'm exhausted and just want to sleep. Newsflash, having a baby is tiring! Who would've thought."

Meredith helped her up the stairs with her bag. "Well, fuck him! Now you can get drunk on all the tequila you want and meet a hot man and forget about him," Meredith explained.

The model chimed in, "I mean, would taking him back really be so bad? He's the dad after all, don't you want Mila to have a dad?"

"Listen, Izzie. You understand how it is to be cheated on, it's fucking horrible. I still haven't decided if I even want him in her life at all. Plus, she has amazing aunts and uncles that I know love her and will help out," the blonde ranted. "I'm really tired and I'm probably going to be woken up in two hours to feed her. So let me
go to bed. Please." Izzie raised her hands, backing off.

"Goodnight, Alli. Goodnight, Mila," George cooed at the baby lovingly. Alli smiled, he's going to be a good uncle to her.

Allison made her way up to her room, carefully laid Mila into her crib, and flopped into bed. She prayed to God that Mark Sloan was not here to stay.

NOW SHE WAS BACK and better than ever. It had been like a week, but it was too long. Allison Shepherd needed to cut soon. She missed the thrill of surgery. Luckily, the hospital had a daycare, so she just brought Mila there and dropped her off before going to the lockeroom.

She went into the colorful room surrounded by toys. Her daughter's bright blue eyes gazed into hers, as she said, "I love you, sweetheart. I'll see you later." She kissed her on the forehead and in return got some babbles from her.

The Shepherd woman handed her off to one of the daycare ladies sadly and continued her beeline to the locker room. She walked in, Meredith was chugging peptobismal. "What's wrong, Mer? You're chugging the pepto like it's tequila," she joked.

"Izzie left the house today. That's a good sign. Yeah, Mer, are you okay?" George said.

"Yeah, just not feeling like myself. How was drop off, Al?" Meredith asked

Alli was changing into her scrubs, "It was hard to leave her, but I'm ready to be back!" she said excitedly.

"O'Malley seems to have that affect on women," Alex snarked. "Ask Doctor Torres." Allison snorted a bit.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Dude, you threw her out on her ass," the buzz cut intern chuckled.

"I did not! Who told you that?" the doe-eyed brunette said defensively.

"Torres."

Allison rushed out of the lockeroom when Bailey shouted, "Let's go, people. I've been in surgery since 2am!" The sight of her favorite blonde intern made her grin. "Welcome back, Shep."

"Thanks, Doctor B. Missed you!" Allison said lovingly to her resident.

"Don't suck up now, Dr. Shepherd," the resident scoffed lovingly. Alex and Cristina were bickering about who was first.

Meredith hunched over, holding onto a supply cart. The blonde stopped, along with Cristina. "Seriously, Mer, you okay?" she asked, concerned.

"Woman troubles?" Cristina quipped.

"Ugh, men troubles," she complained. "I think this dating two guys thing is getting to me, the stress of it. Finn, Derek, Derek, Finn. I think I'm getting an ulcer."

"McDreamy and McVet are making you sick?" Cristina raised an eyebrow.

"I just need to make a choice and get it over with." They walked to the patients room. Mr. Sullivan needed to get his oxygen levels up. Bailey banned him from anything fried, alcohol, and cigarettes. Then, his wife went to the front desk for discharge papers.

"Dr. Grey, I am clipping a basilar tip aneurysm. Any interest?" Derek asked Meredith, who was clutching her stomach. She stared blankly.

"Me, Derek, me! I'm back, baby! Give me the surgery," Allison begged to her brother.

"Fine, Alli," he scoffed. The girl turned around happily to her brother, but quickly stopped in her tracks.

Addison began mumbling, "Oh my god." This caused the others to turn their heads and say the same thing.

"Is that. . ." George began.

Cristina finished for him, "McSteamy." He had his own lab coat and everything, his name stitched right into it in bold navy letters. A handsome, younger brunette man stood next to him. He's cute, the blonde thought. Wait, focus. She quickly snapped back to reality and her anger bubbled to the surface.

"What the hell is he doing here!" Allison exclaimed, a vein popping out in her forehead and her cheeks flushed pink. Oh, she was pissed. Then, Meredith threw up on the ground.

George saw Mr. Sullivan lighting a cigarette. "No, Mr. Sullivan, don't light that!" he screamed as the man lit on fire.

Her first day back was already chaos.

"APPARENTLY PEOPLE DO idiotic things all the time," Derek said, looking at the Chief. Allison stomped over to Mark and the other mystery guy as both Richard and Derek walked away.

"I thought you left, I told you to leave," she sharply exhaled angrily. "You need to go back to New York."

"I sold the practice and the apartment, and I told you I'm going to do everything I can to get you and our daughter back," he shrugged cockily. "My department will generate money for this hospital, especially because I'm here now. And I brought my fellow here. I'm here to stay, sweetheart." She could feel her friend's eyes on them and could hear Richard and Derek's conversation above her.

"Tyler Crawford, nice to meet you," the mystery guy flashed her an award winning smile. She shook his hand.

"Allison Shepherd, nice to meet you too," she introduced herself, blushing slightly. She refocused in on Mark. "You are such a cocky asshole! This is one of the many reasons I left you," the blonde Shepherd scoffed. The plastic surgeon didn't break eye contact with her once. She missed his eyes, but mother of God, she hated him.

"You love me, baby. Don't bother lying to yourself," he told her, grabbing her chin to keep her looking at him.

Her head turned violently to the sound of Meredith vomiting again. "Are you pregnant?" the Korean woman exclaimed.

"Oh no, not you now!" Allison shrieked, running over to her friend, away from her ex-lover and held her as she threw up again.

"Oh, this is just perfect. An adulterous love child," Addison Shepherd had made her way over to Mark Sloan. The female Shepherd felt two pairs of eyes gazing at her, the new fellow and the ex.

Derek was speeding down the stairs to the dirty blonde woman, "Goes along with an adulterous sociopath." He gave a deadly look to the redhead and his ex-best friend.

CRISTINA AND ALLI examined Meredith's abdomen. Allison was holding Mila and Meredith's hand lovingly. "So who's the father?" Cristina asked curiously.

"I'm not pregnant," Meredith insisted.

"That's what I thought, and then I peed on a stick, and now what do you see," the blonde said, referring to the baby she was currently feeding.

"Exactly, I didn't think I was pregnant when I was pregnant, too. But the abdominal pain, fever, and nonstop vomiting―" the curly haired woman listed off before being cut off.

"I'm not pregnant."

"You don't know who the father is, do you?" Allison giggled. "Also, you should still at least take a test, Mer."

"It would have to be Derek's. There's no way it could be Finn's," the dirty blonde shook her head.

"You haven't had sex with the vet yet?" Cristina's mouth fell open in shock. "Well, you gotta get out of that relationship immediately."

"Oh, I can't be pregnant, can I?" she was growing increasingly more nervous.

"Mila's already getting a cousin!―" "With McBaby." Her two best friends had two very different ways of comforting her. Cristina pushed on her abdomen and the woman groaned.

"Was I this mean to you when you both were pregnant?" she complained.

"Did you guys see the new fellow― he's hot―" Allison said and both of the girls nodded in agreement.

"He's McSexy," Cristina said, proud with the name she came up with.

"Isn't he?" the blonde mother sighed, dreamily.

"Guys! Focus!" Meredith groaned in pain again. "I might be pregnant!"

Alli furrowed her brows, "Oh, I thought you said you weren't pregnant?" Allison said that right as Dr. Bailey walked in.

"She's not. We'll have to run some more tests," Bailey's voice echoed as she walked over to inspect her chart.

"In that case, can I have some morphine?" Allison and Cristina's lip downturned.

ALLISON WATCHED AS SLOAN SAID, "Actually, there is one thing you can do for me. . ." to Alex. "Bone dry cappuccino. Make it a double." The same order every time.

She scoffed to herself in disbelief as the intern with the buzz cut listened to him, like a puppy. Mark walked over to the girl at the nurse's station. "What?" he asked, curious about why the blonde was scoffing at him.

"This is supposed to be a teaching hospital. You're supposed to teach interns how to do things," she stated, matter of factually. Her eyes remained on the clipboard.

He rolled his eyes, "Do you speak to all of your attendings like this?"

"Only the ones that cheated on me," she smirked.

"I just asked him for coffee, that's all. I'll teach him later, but right now I need my bone dry cappuccino, pronto," Mark defended.

"Oh well, I'm all done here. I hope he gets you a latte with extra cream and caramel," Allison said with a cute smile, quickly turning her back and walking off.

She heard Mark from behind her say, "Love you too, babe!" God, she hated him.

THE BLONDE arrived to Meredith's room. "What's the diagnosis?" she asked, concerned.

"Appendicitis," the three said. Meredith, who was high as a kite, followed shortly after.

"George, prep Meredith for surgery. You're scrubbing in," Bailey informed him.

"I. . .uh. . . am I the only one that remembers the last time George scrubbed in on an appendectomy? He almost killed the guy. Sorry, George," Mer rambled, under the influence.

Allison had to rack her brain, "Ohhhh, 007." She remembered the first surgery of their class.

George frowned, "I don't have to scrub in, Dr. Bailey. I could just, uh. . . unless you want me to, which. . . no, it's not going to happen again." He recanted his first statement as Bailey's glared daggers into the side of his head.

"That good enough for you, Dr. Grey?" Bailey asked, with sass.

"I'm kind of scared for her now," Allison admitted, earning a glare from her superior.

"You're pretty," Meredith blurted out to Miranda and started to scrunch her nose. Bailey just left the room. "George! Ice chips! Alli, sometimes I just wanna give you a big kiss."

"I love you, too, Mer," Allison giggled at her drugged-up best friend.

"ALLISON!" MARK FOLLOWED HER to the nurse's station. He looked like he was ready to go into surgery soon.

"Um, what do you want?" she questioned, cocking an eyebrow. He sighed. He knew he had messed up real bad these past couple months, but he had been trying hard to get into her good graces.

"I want you to scrub in with me," he stated. "No ulterior motives, scout's honor."

"Okay, I'll take it. But what about Karev? Isn't he on the case?"

"Can't find him, so he's not anymore. Come on," he said, signaling his ex-fiancé to come with him. When she complied, he felt a little closer to getting her back.

Mid-way into the procedure, Alex walked through the O.R. doors. "Where's my coffee, Karev?" the plastic surgeon immediately asked.

"I got pulled into an emergency c-section. Sorry," he apologized, holding his mask over his face. He saw his  blonde friend sitting right next to Dr. Sloan, a sting of betrayal hit him.

"That's too bad. I was gonna let you scrub in on a real surgery, but it looks like Little Shep here's got it," the attending said stoically. Allison's eyes were apologetic, but this was a chance for a real surgery, it didn't matter if she had to work with her least favorite person. "Maybe next time, if O.B. can spare you. See ya."

Alex walked out of the room, "Okay, Alli, I want you to―"

MARK AND ALLISON WERE doing post-op on Mr. Sullivan. The silence wasn't awkward, but it wasn't comfortable, interrupted by a few questions from Mrs. Sullivan.

Bailey walked in, eyeing the two ex's and asked, "How's he doing, Mrs. Sullivan?"

"We're just getting an update now, Dr. Bailey," she answered back.

Mark shut the clipboard. "The surgery went well. We removed the necrotic tissue, applied the live cells, and if his body responds in three or four weeks―"

"He'll have his face back?" his wife interrupted.

He broke the bad news, "Mr and Mrs Sullivan, your face my never be exactly what it was. Even if everything goes perfectly well, there will be scarring."

"But he's a saleman. He has such a nice face," his wife stated, defeatedly. The three sat in silence, eyes darting back and forth.

"You have an amazing wife, Mr. Sullivan and a half a dozen salesmen waiting in the lobby for you. Your face may be different, but you know, it's not about what you look like or your job or how successful you are. It's about having people in your life that you love and who love you. That's all that matters," The intern spoke up.
She grabbed his hand, comforting the man.

Bailey beamed in pride and Mark looked at her lovingly.

ALLISON GRABBED HER BABY. "Oh, Mila, I missed you all day," she smiled, her blue eyes filled with love. The babygirl returned her greeting with a toothless smile.

She strapped her up in the carrier and walked out into the lobby. She said goodbye to random people she passed that she had seen that day and she ran into the new fellow in the lobby.

"Hey, Allison," Tyler Crawford smiled at her. "I don't know if you remember me, but I'm Tyler Crawford, but I go by Ty."

She remembered him. With a face like that, how could she forget. "I definitely remember you, hi. Sorry, this morning was quite chaotic." He was reminded of the fire and the argument with Mark.

"Yeah, I can imagine," he chuckled and looked down to the baby carrier. "Who's this little cutie?"

"Oh, this is Mila," she introduced. The babygirl babbled and looked at Tyler with her big blue eyes. "I think she likes you."

"Well, I better get going," he sighed.

The blonde woman frowned, "Anyone back there waiting for you?"

He shook his head and said, "Definitely not, I'm just exhausted. Long day. I hope your day got better after this morning."

"Goodnight, Ty," the blonde smiled, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. He returned the goodnight and walked out, her following behind.

She began to ramble to her daughter about her day, like she could understand any of it. Telling her about the surgery she got to participate in, Meredith's appy and Meredith moments when she was as high as a kite.

I love you, I'm sorry, Mark thought as he watched the interaction, seething with jealousy and sadness. He went to the only place that could give him comfort, the bar.
