As Irene continues to cut open the wound, Lucas signal Arlo to find a physician.
Arlo then walks out. Marcy just stood aside, waiting.
While Lucas observed every little detail of how Irene do the surgery. He came to realize that Marcus isn't awaken from her cutting. Still, he have doubts. As for many years, women has no history of being a physician. Even if there were women that is talented, they wouldn't be given any higher position. Women are only allowed to work as a maid, farmer, and all jobs that been considered as low position by the king. Physician, scholars, tailor, and high position job are only for men. For women to have a higher position and more talented is known to be a disgraceful by the king. So no one will take a woman seriously even if she's a genius.
The blood keep on flowing out from the wound, but Irene still calmly separated the infection part. Lucas frown looking at the scene, but this time he no longer interrupted her.
Once she's done separate the infection part. Irene took out a steriliser needle as she stitches up the wound.
30 minutes later...
"It's done." Irene said, sounding exhausted.
Hearing that, both Marcy and Lucas approaches her. Lucas couldn't help but amazed.
"In a while, let him rest. He will later regain his consciousness." Irene inform Marcy.
Marcy only nods her head, grateful as she holding her father hand. Right now, Irene is busy cleaning up the blood from the leg.
"The physician is here!" Arlo barge in with an old physician who's out of breath.
"I came...as soon...as I...can." said the physician while panting.
After finishes cleaning, Irene approaches the old physician.
"I done the surgery already. The patient leg has been infected. So I removed the infected part from his leg. You can inspect it for a assurances. And you can check up his condition to see any improvement. The patient almost lost a lot of blood." Irene told the physician.
Hearing that, the old physician examined Marcus leg.
She also took out a note that she had wrote down as she pass it to the old physician.
"Here is the list that the patient needed to recover."
Looking at the list, the old physician was surprised.
"How do you know to prescribe this? Do you suppose have a teacher?" The physician asks.
"Yes, I have been taught. Does the prescription is correct?"
"Yes, yes, it is. Are you perhaps...Irene?"
"Yes, do you know me?"
"Hahahaha of course, I know you. How can't I not know the lady who always steal my customers." The old physician sneered.
"What?" Irene couldn't believe what she's hearing.
"Almost all the people in the town, looking for you when they needed treatment. Since you didn't charge them. It almost cost me my fortune. Young lady like you shouldn't waste your time learning this. This hard work should be done by men. A fine lady like you should do a light work such as sewing and doing housework. So you can find yourself a good husband. With this you can easily pleased your husband." The old man said mockingly.
Hearing such words, infuriate Irene.
"Heh...if men want to do the hardwork, and expect women to do the light work, then I suppose men should be the one to get pregnant! See if you men don't die on labor!"
"You....you jest!"
Just as the old physician wants to argue towards her, Arlo block him while Lucas stands infront of Irene.
"Old physician, I pay you to come here and to take a look at the patient not giving unasked advices. I suggest you to focus on your job only." Lucas remind with a hint of iciness.
Seeing both of the man fierce looking, the old physician could only swallow his anger and continue focus on Marcus.
Irene who has already annoyed, does not appreciate the two lead gestures. She just ignore both of them like air as she passes them.
When Irene finally make sure that Marcus condition is alright, she then left with two of the lead walking behind her.
While walking, Irene just ignored both of them.
"Are you angry?" Lucas couldn't help but ask.
"No." Irene gave an answer.
"But you seem angry."
"No, I'm not."
"Why are you angry just then? The old physician just stating a fact." Lucas stated.
Irene stops her track then turn to look at Lucas.
"Yes, I know how the government work here. But that doesn't give him the right to rub it off my face. I try hard to make it through in my life as woman. None of it is easy. It not my fault if I happened to be good at what I do. Do you know how hard it is for when you can't be the person that you can be."
"I don't think you know how this work. Women has been given their part of duties. And same goes to men. Doing the men jobs and drawn attention of the people, would not bring you any good. Some people can accused you of treason." Lucas explains.
"I was only trying to save my friend. And helping the one who needs. I was doing the right thing." Irene stated.
"But doing the opposite of what women should do, that's not the right thing."
It drawn to Irene, that Lucas will never understand her view. She couldn't help but be disappointed.
"Then maybe I shouldn't have saved you. Since it's not the right thing to do." Irene concluded as she continues to walk ahead.
Leaving Lucas taciturn for awhile as he proceeded to follow her, with Arlo behind him.
