I woke up, my head pounding.
I sat up slowly, my bed was stiffer than I remembered.
Well maybe because it wasn't my bed.
I looked around as i furrowed my eyebrows and slowly got down off the bed I was on, noticing about 500 of the same ones in this huge room.
Where the hell am I..?
I slowly approached the bottom of the staircase and noticed everyone pretty much looked as clueless as I was.
I looked down at myself once I realized that everyone was wearing the same green tracksuit, but had different numbers..
382
I wondered how many people were in this room and how we all got here.
As I got down there were many who were already standing in the middle of the room. I looked around, hoping to find a familiar face, but I knew absolutely no one.
Suddenly a loud buzz was heard and the door in the front of the room was opened, revealing a bunch of people in pink jumpsuits with hoods and black masks with a shape on each one.
They stood before us and the one in the middle with a square shape on his mask began to speak.
"I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to you all. Over the next six days, you will
participate in six different games. Those who win all six games will receive a handsome cash prize." spoke the masked man.
I crossed my arms as I leaned against the metal bar of a bed, listening to the person speak.
"excuse me." said a voice that sounded a lot like a man. 120. All attention went straight to him. But I was pretty sure he wasn't a him. He was a she and she was quite beautiful.
"If we're just playing games here, then why did you basically kidnap us? How can we trust you now?" she asked
Everyone silently agreed and nodded
"My apologies. Please understand it was a necessary step taken to maintain the strict confidentiality of these games." said the masked man
"Is that right? Then what's the deal with the masks? That's a secret too, i'm guessing" another woman asked
"yeah, why are you wearing those? Where are we? Is this some kind of illegal casino?" a man asked.
More voices were then heard agreeing to what these people said
"To ensure the fairness and confidentiality of the games, it is our policy not to disclose the faces and identities of our staff to participants. We ask for your understanding." said the same masked man
More and more people began to speak up about how they got us into these tracksuits, where their shoes are, and if our personal belongs will be given back. I just stopped listening because these people were annoying me. I sat down on the stairs as i waited for something else to happen.
Suddenly, the big screen above the masked people turned on. It showed a guy named
Lee Myung-gi getting slapped after losing ddakji.
I hope they don't show mine
They started exposing him and many others, listing their names and amount of debt they're in.
As he kept showing videos of people getting slapped while playing, I kept my eyes on the screen, completely forgetting to listen to the man speaking.
Suddenly the screen changed into a number.
456.
That's the amount of players in here.
The lights dimmed and a gold light came from the center of the ceiling as a huge piggy bank came down slowly.
I was distracted by how big and bright it was until someone in the crowd spoke up
"What's the total prize money at the end?" said a man in the crowd
"The total prize money is 45.6 billion won." said the masked man
My eyes widened at the amount of money.
I could pay off all my debt and still have a decent life for as long as I live.
"And does just one person get it all?" the same man in the crowd spoke
"More details on how the prize money gets divided will be shared after the first game has ended. For these games, we will also be giving you a special option that we have never offered before"
"And what's that option?" said an old
man in the crowd. The one who owes 10 billion won
"After each game you will all be given a chance to vote on whether you would like to end the games there or if you'd like to continue playing. If the majority wishes to stop, the games will be terminated. You will then take the prize money that is accumulated, and leave." said the masked man
"wait!" yelled out a man descending from the stairs. "After one game if we vote to leave..then the prize money gets divided among us?" asked the man. 456
There was a long pause as everyone turned to look back at the masked man
"that is correct" said the masked man.
Murmurs were heard all around the room. I stayed on the stairs, not moving as I watched as everyone speak.
(fast forward to when they take pictures cause i'm lazy, sorry!)
We all lined up getting ready to take some pictures. Why? I'm not exactly sure. When it was my turn, i tried my best to smile, but it had been one of the most emotionless smiles I have ever had on my face.
Once it was over with, I followed a line a people going upstairs. This place was huge. I looked up and I felt as if the stairs would never come to an end.
We went through a door and we were all met with huge green ones. I stood behind one and suddenly they all began to open slowly and loudly.
As everyone was in the game area, the green doors closed with loud clangs. I looked around and took in the setting. I looked up and saw a couple of birds fly by.
I saw people talking and murmuring to each other, once again making me feel all alone.
A loud voice was heard, coming from a man that now stood in front of everyone. It was player 456.
"EVERYONE!" the man yelled
"YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION!" he yelled while waving his arms up to get the attention of everyone.
"LISTEN UP!" he yelled again
What's up with this guy?
I had honestly stopped listening once he said that these games were going to kill us.
Was this man insane? Why would he say that?
Then again it occurred to me that no one in their right minds would probably lie about getting killed while playing children's games. That and the fact he sounded terrified himself.
I took a deep breath to calm my nerves
Let's hopes he's just drunk or something...
With a loud robotic sound, the giant doll at the other side of the area turned around. She placed her left hand on the tree in front of her.
"Green light!" called out the doll. I began walking, slightly jogging, just as everyone else did.
"Red light!" she said a bit faster. Her head whipped around and i grimaced at how freaky she looked.
"FREEZE!" yelled player 456. He kept his arm over his mouth, covering the movement as he yelled out to everyone.
I glanced around at people around me as they stood still like statues just like I was.
BOOM
My body flinched as a girls body fell to the ground not too far away from me. Blood spilled from her head and one lady screamed and began to run, causing a chain reaction.
It was pure chaos.
Somehow I had managed to stay completely still, not getting myself killed.
I flinched every time I heard a gunshot, sometimes near me, sometimes far away.
On about the fifth turn, I was starting to run faster and some guy bumped into me. He turned to look back and he had a smug expression on his face. His hair a bright purple. He jumped around as if this was all some game...I mean it is but that's now what I mean.
There was about a minute and a half left when i got a couple of steps away from the finish line. When the doll said green light, I thought I leaped over the line from how long my steps were. I landed onto the ground and let out deep breaths as my heart finally stopped racing.
One done, five to go...
