CHAPTER FIVE: The escape
»»𝒮𝑜𝒻𝓉𝒸𝑜𝓇𝑒►
ANAKIN SAWYER LIKED TO PLAY IT COOL. Had he been alone, or, well, not with someone he cared about, that's what he would have done. He wouldn't have cared that they were all about to go into a burst of flames. But, Yelena was here. The girl was the closest thing to a family he's ever had.
Yelena, who was his sister in every term of the word, but blood.
The incinerator had been turned on, Anakin could tell by the way the semi-cold room became warm.
Anakin removed the leather-jacket. If he was going to blow up, he'd rather not get his third-favorite jacket with the other human guts. He bundled the jacket in his arms.
Yelena's face was pinched in worry. "Two minutes," she says. "then Valentina's slate is wiped clean."
"You don't know that for sure," Walker replies. "It could be for anything. "It could be for when they come to pick me up."
Ava shook her head and whirled around to Walker. "Do you feel that? The temperature rising dramatically as if heat was involved?"
"Oh, what Walker means," Anakin says with a sarcastic smile. "Is he thinks the heat is from the fumes of hell. You know, because a demon is here."
"That's not-" Walker starts, then sighs, he looks over the room. "Yeah, that's the incinerator."
"Oh, boy," Bob lets out, nervous. "That is no way to go."
"How would you like to get out of here,
Bob?" Walker sassed at him.
"All right, leave him alone, because honestly, he's right. Dying anywhere near you, is not a way to go" Anakin snapped. "If this is what actually kills me, the last thing I hear better not be your voice."
Bob glanced over at Anakin, taking a slight step closer. He was the only one to defend him. Multiple times. Even if he was a demon, as Walker said. (Well, if you counted the levitating as prove of a demon, then yeah, He's seen Anakin be a demon.)
Bob glanced at Anakin, who has removed his jacket. Anakin, who aside from the jeans, wore a white, tight shirt. Anakin's jacket was bundled up in his arms.
"Hey," Anakin says, turning to Bob, who's eyes snap up to his face. Anakin squinted his eyes, examining Bob. He stepped closer, not daring to being his hand to try and tilt Bob's face. Maybe the alarm had hurt his ears. "You alright?"
"Wh-hat?" Bob stammered as he started at the man. The man who he could only describe as beautiful. He had never met a man he thought was beautiful.
"You've been staring," Anakin says.
John snorted, laughing.
Anakin turned to him in confusion, but didn't address it. John was odd, after all. And seemed to have anger issues, from what Anakin heard, maybe he had other issues as well.
"I think I have a plan," Yelena speaks.
"Yes," Anakin agrees.
"She didn't even say anything," John speaks.
"Any idea is good as long as it's not from you," Anakin smiled.
John huffed in annoyance. You would have guessed by Anakin's reaction, that he and Anakin knew each other and got into a fight or something. Or, we're enemies. This was the first time John met him.
"Okay, Ghost Lady," Yelena begins.
"Ava," the woman interrupted.
"Sure, whatever, I don't care." She pointed off at the direction of one of the exits that was sealed shut. "We need to get you through the walls so that you can open the door."
"She tried that already," Walker intervened
in a know-it-all voice.
"I know she did, but we haven't tried shutting down the sound barrier."
"Can't he just go through the walls?" John gestured to Anakin. "What good is a demon is he can't walk through walls and-."
"Yeah, if Valentina built it for Ava," Anakin began, ignoring John.
"Then there's got to be an independent source," John says.
Anakin gives a sarcastic clap. "Who says it's beauty or brains?"
Yelena shook her head and begins to look around the room, head tilted up to the ceiling.
"Okay, come on," Anakin tells Bob. Because it definitely wasn't a good idea to leave Bob anywhere near John. Or Anakin, near John for the matter. But, it Bob was staring at Anakin, still, unmoving. "I'm a demon. Not a vampires promise, I won't bite."
John lets out a loud, annoyed groan. "Why can't you go through the wall?" John asked Anakin.
"And leave my body defenseless to you, who would probably decapitate my head from my body? I'll do it last."
"I thought you couldn't die," John mocked.
"You," Bob began, not sure what to say.
"Enough Walker," Yelena speaks.
"What exactly are we looking for?" Bob questions.
"Something that looks like it could be switched off," Anakin says.
"I think I found it!" called out Ava, which cause for the others to hurry over to where she found a side of the wall that had a large power source connected to it. There was a covering that blocked it, and Yelena was putting all her weight into pushing it out of the way.
"Let me see," Anakin speaks, waiting for Yelena to get out of the way before he gripped either sides with his hands and yanked it off the wall with ease. He tossed it aside to reveal the countless wires and cords hooked up and interconnecting with each other.
Bob stays staring at Anakin, amazement shining in his eyes. But, he was unable to say anything, shocked at the sight.
"I can override this," Yelena pulls a slim device from her pocket.
"On your left," John's voice fills the air.
Anakin pulled Yelena and Bob behind him, as John rushed forward, arm reared back, his shield in hand and slammed the shriek into the wires. The power shut off.
"I guess that works," Yelena says.
"I hope," Ava adds.
"All right, let's go," Anakin says, making a gesture to the door. He looked behind him, trying to figure it is there was anyway for him to cover over Yelena and Bob is the building did explode.
Ava ran at the door, going through it. They waited.
"Damn it," Anakin muttered before letting out a sigh. He should have done it himself. Even if he wasn't able to come back because John cut off his head.
"Do you think she's coming back?" Bob asked, lowly."
"Fuck it," Anakin says, and before anyone could question what he had meant, his eyes darkened. The entirety of his eye balls were black and the skin around his eyes, reaching his eyebrows and cheekbones has become black. He fell back.
"Oh, my God!" Bob yelled, panicked as Anakin suddenly fell back against him. Anakin hadn't been aware that Bob was so close.
There was six seconds left.
"Oh, great!" John exclaimed in frustration. "Now he does it. To leave us all to die."
"No!" Yelena snapped, because maybe if it was Walker, Anakin would leave. But, she and Bob were here. And, he believed Bob to be innocent. And, he was like a brother to her.
"What happened to him?" Bob asked.
A loud beeping sound screeched throughout the room, just as Anakin jolted up. "Come on." He quickly pulled himself up, grabbing the to rush towards the door. The door began to open.
Anakin shoved the three of he to be in-front of him, Yelena, John and then Bob, because he hasn't realized that Bob wasn't moving.
Flames bursted forth from the ceiling above, and The fire erupted from behind them, creating an explosion that sent them soaring out of the room and crashing into the wall.
Another body collided into Anakin, his head slamming into the wall.
