I stumbled out of the bushes and wiped some snow off of myself. The town was peaceful, there weren't many monsters roaming the streets, perfect. I shivered slightly and began to walk around. I stopped at a shop and stared at my reflection in the window. My hair was messy, my clothes were soaked, my sneakers were soaked as well and I was cold. The sharp wind didn't help at all.
I sighed, letting a puff of mist escape my mouth and wrapped my hands around myself in attempt to keep myself just a little bit more warm. I strolled around, trying to find a place to stay the night. Maybe there's a hotel near by? Do they have these here? I yelped as I felt something bump into me. The papers that someone was carrying scattered all over the place.
"O-Oh I'm so s-sorry, miss!" A boys voice stuttered and bowed his head low, before crouching down and starting to pick up his papers. "It's quite alright." I replied and started to help him pick up the pieces. Once the papers were gathered, I stood up straight and handed the monster kid his papers with a small smile. He pushed his glasses higher up his nose and took the papers from me. Our hands brushed briefly while at it. "Oh! Your hands must be freezing!" The kid breathed out and dug his hands into his pockets, pulling out a pair of orange mittens.
"Here, you need these more than I do. Can't really feel cold." He extended the mittens towards me with a sweet smile. "Uh.. Thank you, but I don't-"
"Nonsense! Think of it as a..thank you gift from me for helping me gather my things. Most monsters wouldn't help at all.." The kid stepped closer and put the mittens in my hand. "Thank you..that's so nice of you." I stared down at the mittens in my hand. This kid was so generous and Just because I helped him with a small thing. "You're welcome!" He cheered but then stopped and slapped a hand over his forehead. "Oh my Asgore! I'm gonna be late. I must get going now, thanks, again. And if you're interested in having a good cup of hot chocolate, there's a place called 'Grillby's' down the street. Good luck!" And with that, he rushed off, taking a sharp turn and exiting my view. Wait, didn't Toriel mention Asgore as well? Who is that guy..
I put on the mittens the kid gave me, they fit just right. I smiled, and remembered that even the little things you do for someone, can give you a reward back. Just be helpful and keep an opened mind. I shook my head and started to walk down the street past weirdly shaped houses, interesting shops and a pet shop full of puppies. Thankfully, no one was out at the evening. I was surprised the monster kid didn't know I was a human, too.
I stopped in front of a place called Grillby's. This must be the place that kid was talking about. Huh..never got his name. I pushed the door open, which set off a tiny bell, and was surprised to see it was empty. Was it closed?
Suddenly, a monster with a tux entered behind the counter. That wasn't what surprised me, no...it was the fact that his head was on fire! Literally! And are those glasses? How do they not melt?
"Hey, kid, you look like you've seen a ghost." The monster spoke. Judging from his voice, it was a male. I cleared my throat and walked towards him. My palms started to get sweaty witch each passing second.
"Could I have a cup of hot chocolate?" I asked, gulping down a lump in my throat. Boy, this was making be feel like I was about to go to the dentist, in other words, I was nervous. "And some fries, please."
He nodded and disappeared behind a door. Guess you pay after you eat? Hm. Okay. I sighed and went to a seat near a window and sat down, staring at the dimly lit town. There still was no monsters in sight, was this place poorly populated? But there's so many houses...
I remembered I had a map with me, so I quickly took it out and layed it out on the table. I quickly located the ruins and slowly traced my finger along the path I took. "So then I took a right...and then left...or was it right again? Hm..." I hummed. I hate to admit this, but I'm not good with maps.
I heard the door which I assumed lead to the kitchen open and close. The flame guy swiftly walked to my table and set my items before me. "Here you go, miss. Enjoy." He said in a sweet voice, a little too sweet, to be honest. Just as he turned around, I decided to ask him what is this town called. "Oh, could you please tell me what's the name of this town?"
"Snowdin." He pointed it out on the map. Well that's a pretty straightforward name. "Why?" He asked in a curious tone. "Um...I'm supposed to meet a friend here, and I was just checking if this was the right place." I lied, trying to wiggle out of this situation smoothly.
He stayed silent for a second, then responded. "Well, this is the only place in the Underground with snow. Everyone knows that." He let out a laugh and walked off. I sighed in relief. At least he didn't question me further.
I folded up the map and put it away. The sweet scent of hot chocolate swept by me and I practically drooled. I picked the cup up and blowed on it, then slowly took a sip. I smiled, it was really good and tasted amazingly. I started to nibble on the fries, but there were so many, and I couldn't finish them all, so I did what anyone would have done: folded up the fry pack and put it in my backpack. For a while, I just sat there, staring into the hot chocolate. I had to face the reality: I had no where to stay the night.
The door's bell softly rang, but I didn't look up at whoever it was. Footsteps could be heard as I took a sip. I nearly spat back the hot chocolate, seeing Sans by the counter, starting a chat with the flame guy. Maybe he didn't notice me? I sank deeper into the chair, hoping he will not see me.
But luck was on vacation, as Sans turned his head and looked me right in the eye. I immediately looked sideways, not in the mood for a staring contest. I didn't catch what Sans ordered, if he even ordered. Could skeletons eat? They don't have a digestive system...
Sans turned towards me and started to walk. 'Please don't come here.' I thought to myself as the footsteps got louder. 'Please take a seat somewhere else, the place is empty.' Thump, thump.......
Thump.
"Hey, kid." Sans said, and I could feel the smirk on his face. Seriously, can't he leave me alone? He clearly showed me earlier how much he disliked me, so why start a conversation with me. "What? Cat got your tongue?" I inwardly groaned. Why me..
He took a seat right across from me, never taking his gaze off of me. I hung my head, suddenly the table's surface seemed more interesting. "You didn't have to run off like that. There's a lot of things out there, that could easily erase your life." He chuckled. As if I didn't know that, but in the heat of the moment, I didn't think about that.
"Never expected to see you here. Heheh...you're lucky there isn't anyone here. Cuz some monsters know the difference between a human and a monster." He rested his hand on the table, and put his palm under his chin. Maybe I should go? I took one final sip, and put the mug down. I left the money and was about to get up. But...I couldn't move, as if my limbs had a mind of its own now.
"So where are you staying? I heard there's a storm coming." He asked and stated at the same time. "That's none of your business." I coldly replied. He hummed in response and all of a sudden, I regained my dominance over my limbs. I quickly stood up and started to walk. As I passed Sans, our gazes met and I stopped. We stared at each other, it felt as if the time had stopped. I got a strange feeling, but..I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The tension was broken when the flame guy exited the kitchen. I averted my gaze, embarrassed that I stared for too long, so I quickly waked out, not looking back.
Wait...where am I going to stay? The streets were completely dark and there was no where to go. I started to walk towards the woods, because I'm sure I saw a cave on my way here. You might be thinking that going to a cave would be crazy, but what options did I have? None.
I followed my footsteps into the forest. I could poorly see them, but it was enough. Again, I got that same feeling as before..like I'm being watched. Was it Sans? It couldn't be..I shook it off and continued my walk.
Time passed and I lost track of everything. The sky had darkened and I could tell that a storm was brewing. My clothes were still soaked, my feet freezing and my fingertips were as frozen.
I need to find a place to stay, or it might be too late...
~!**!~
How long was I walking? What time it is...what day it is? Why am I here? Where is 'here'?
By this time, I was shaking like crazy. The tips of my hair were frozen. I, myself, was cold.
The storm had already started, and I had no where to go. 'Just keep moving, don't stop.' I kept reminding myself. My knees felt weak and I tripped and fell right into snow. Damn roots.
I slowly crawled to a tree and leaned against it. I curled into a ball, pulling my legs closer.
If this is how I will go, then at least no monster got me. My eyes felt heavy, and I gave in. I closed my eyes and before I knew it, I barely could feel what's around me. The wind was hauling and...what's that thumping? Is that my heart?
I felt as if I've been lifted. Maybe my soul is leaving my body?
The gentle swaying lulled me to sleep.
