Chapter 15 - Nightmare
Someone shook me and my eyes flew open.
"Kiara?" Nick said.
I looked up at him.
"Are you okay? You were screaming." He said.
I started crying.
That was a dream. It was all a dream. I thought it was real. I thought Nick was dead.
"Hey, why are you crying? Did you have a bad dream?" He said sitting next to me.
I didn't say anything.
Nick pulled me over to him and made me lay down. I put my head on his lap.
"Try to go back to bed." He said.
I don't think I can go back to bed. That dream was horrible. I don't even remember falling asleep. I'm glad it was all a dream. I don't ever want something like that to happen.
I was sleeping and then the phone rang. Nick stayed with me all night. I felt better that he did. I didn't mean for him to stay with me but I felt comfortable. I am probably like a 6 year old to him.
I felt Nick reach his arm over to pick the phone up.
"Hello?" He said still half asleep. "No, I'm up. What's going on? . . . Yeah that's fine. Okay, bye." He hung the phone up and set it down. I felt Nick put a hand on my head.
I didn't feel like getting up. I hardly slept last night. I rubbed my face and opened my eyes. The sun came in through the windows. It was morning already. I sat up still tired.
"Richard is coming over at one." Nick said.
I looked over at the clock. It was eleven. It doesn't even feel like eleven it feels like eight in the morning.
"You can sleep up stairs for a little longer." He said. "You didn't sleep that good last night. You kept waking up in the middle of the night."
I did? I don't remember. The only thing I remember is that one dream I had.
Nick got up. "I'm going to get ready. You can get some breakfast or whatever."
I nodded and Nick went upstairs. I got up and went over to my bag and got my cell phone out. I flipped it up. Ten new text messages. From who?
Shelby texted me nine times asking me why I didn't come in yesterday and why I'm not there today. I just texted her back saying I didn't feel well. She's going to get suspicious because I was fine the last time I saw her. Oh well, she'll believe me . . . hopefully. I looked at the tenth message I had. It was Jordan. Jordan . . . I can't even get away from him. I'd rather talk to him by phone then person actually. He asked me a question. 'Did you have a nightmare last night?'
What? How does he know I had a nightmare? That little stalker. I can't get away from him. I'll lie to him and then we'll see if he was actually stalking me. I put 'no.' While I waited for his reply I went in the kitchen to see what Nick had for breakfast. Probably not a lot. I looked in the fridge. No milk. Great. That eliminates half of everything on the list. I opened the freezer door. No waffles. He ate them all! I'll have toast. I went over to the bread box. No bread. Damn it Nick. When I come over you're suppose to go shopping. What the hell does that boy eat if he never goes shopping?
My phone vibrated in my hand. I opened it up.
'You're lying to me.'
Damn it. How does he know that? If he is stalking me I could press charges. I'm not joking. That's option D if I don't have anything else to get rid of him. But, I wouldn't send him to jail. Unless he sucked any of my blood than yeah that would be my best option. I don't know what to put. What do I say to him!?
I thought about it for a second. I just won't answer him. I like that idea. I set my phone down on the counter and went to go see what else Nick had in the cupboards. My phone vibrated on the counter. I went over and it said Jordan. No, I'm not answering it. Forget it. It vibrated again. It was Jordan texting me again. It kept vibrating and vibrating. Stupid idiot I'm not picking it up. I got the phone and took the battery out of it. Ha, you can't text me anymore. The home phone rang.
You've gotta be kidding me. I went over and picked it up.
"Would you stop doing that!" I yelled.
"Um - Kiara? It's me Richard."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you were someone else." I smacked myself in the head. I'm such an idiot.
"It's okay. Is Nick there?"
"Um, I think he is taking a shower."
"When he gets out can you tell him I called?"
"Yeah of course."
"Thanks. Oh and Kiara?"
"Yeah."
"Have you had any, nightmares lately?"
Gosh not him too! Is he stalking me with Jordan!
"Um I, uh -."
"Have you?" He asked again.
Minds well tell him. "Yeah. I did last night."
I don't really get what the big deal is. I just had a bad dream. Most people get those.
"If you get any more could you tell me?" He said.
"Uh, sure. But why does it matter?"
"I don't think I should tell you right now."
"But it's about me. I should now."
"I'm sorry but it's just not the time yet."
"Okay fine. Whatever."
"See you at one." He hung up without letting me say another word.
What's been going on? None of these damn vampires will tell me anything. They're all keeping things from me. It was a dream. It was nothing. Tonight I will go to bed and nothing will happen.
It was 1:10 and Richard isn't at the house yet. I was dressed and ready and so was Nick. There was absolutely nothing for breakfast so I skipped the idea of breakfast and made myself some soup. It didn't really fill me up but I can handle it till dinner. Oh gosh I don't even wanna know what we're having for dinner. If I can't find anything for breakfast what makes you think there will be dinner.
There was a knock at the door. I know who that is. I got off the couch and opened the door.
"Hey Kiara." Richard rubbed my head.
Great. Now I have to go wash my hair again.
He came in and I shut the door.
I feel a little awkward around him because of our conversation on the phone. I mean I know I didn't get him angry or anything but I feel like because he's keeping something from me I can't be normal around him.
"Hey Richard." Nick said from the living room.
"Hey." He said and went into the living room.
Richard seems like a human to me even though he has pale skin and sharp teeth. He doesn't bother me as much as the others do. But that's just me for ya.
"What's been going on?" Richard said sitting on the couch where I was sitting.
I moved my bag off the chair and sat in the chair because he took my seat.
"Just chillin'." Nick said.
Nick and Richard started a conversation off from there. I didn't listen like usual. Boy's conversations are weird. I don't feel like talking about the game 'Call of Duty' or some chick they saw off the street. No thank you. Well Nick has a girlfriend. I love his girlfriend. She is so nice to me. Her name is Autumn Kindle. I haven't seen her in a while though.
"Kiara?"
"Huh?" I looked up at Nick who said that.
"Do you want to go to the movies tonight?" He asked.
Movies? Well last night I just watched a movie then had a nightmare. If I watch a movie tonight will I have another nightmare?
"I promise it won't be the one like last night." He said.
"I guess." I looked over at Richard.
Richard had a look on his face like he knew something was wrong. He's not going to tell me anything so I minds well not worry about it.
"Is 6:30 good for you Richard?" Nick asked.
Richard's eyes left mine and looked at Nick. "Yeah. That's fine."
It's going to be a long night.
It was 15 min to 6:30 and we were in line getting the tickets. I felt weird going to the movies with Richard. It's not every day I get to go out in public with a guy like him. I heard a rumble of thunder and looked out the windows. It was raining out. Just my luck. It was a good day out. Until now.
Nick grabbed the three tickets and we went to theater number 6. I was looking around and all these teenagers were hanging out with their friends. I glanced at Nick and Richard. I really need to get some other friends that are the same age as me. And maybe some friends that are girls and maybe not vampires too. I was walking and someone hit me walking past me. Every time that happens it's always a vampire. I'm not looking over. I don't care who it is. I just ignored it and neither me nor the person said a word. Good.
We went into theater number 6 and I followed Nick and Richard to the seats. I sat next to Nick and Richard sat on the other side of Nick. That means I don't have to sit next to a vampire. I didn't say anything to either of them but they were talking away. Not too much longer the movie started. I don't know what movie this is. Whatever. I'm just going to sit and watch the movie.
After the movie we were back at the house. It was 8:30. It was still raining out and I still here a couple of rumbles of thunder. That movie I saw was good. It was nothing like the movie I saw last night. That's for sure. I went over to the couch and laid down. Richard and Nick went to the kitchen. There is no point for me to go to the kitchen. There is nothing there. I am hungry though. I didn't eat anything before we went and we didn't grab anything there.
I saw a flash of lightning from outside the window and the electricity went out. The thunder roared through the sky after it happen. This is basically what happened in my dream!
"Nick?" I said.
"I'm in the kitchen! Stay where you are." He said and I heard clunking. He was looking for a flash light.
He's okay. Oh my gosh that scared me for a second. I saw a light come on. It was a flash light. The light came toward the living room. Nick came in with Richard. He's not dead. He's fine. Nothing is going to happen.
Nick and Richard came over to the couch and sat down.
"We're going to have to wait for the storm to stop." Nick said.
I poked Nick making sure he was still alive. Just making sure you know.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"Nothing."
Richard looked at me like he already knew what I was doing.
I looked at the window and a flash of lightning lit the sky up. But that's not all I saw. I saw a dark figure in the window and I gasped. Richard and Nick looked at me.
"What's wrong?" Nick asked me.
"I uh, nothing. It's nothing."
"I'll be back." Richard said standing up.
"Where you going?" Nick asked him.
"I'm going to go see if you have candles."
Nick stood up. "I'll get them."
"No, that's fine. I will."
What is Richard doing?
Nick sat back down and Richard left the room. The little flash light Nick held in his hand lit the room up a bit. This isn't a dream this is real. I heard a clunk. Nick and I looked at each other.
"Richard! You okay?" Nick yelled.
He didn't answer.
"Richard!?" He said again.
Nick stood up. I grabbed his arm.
"Don't leave me." I said.
I don't want anything to happen to him.
"Come with me." He said.
I stood up still having a hold of his arm and we walked to the kitchen where the noise came from. I held Nick's arm tighter bracing myself for whatever was going to happen.
"Richard?" Nick said.
"I got them."
We both jumped and turned around.
"I thought you were in the kitchen." Nick said.
"No. I went upstairs."
I glanced around my shoulder to look in the kitchen. I thought that noise came from there. I looked back at Richard and spotted something on his shirt. It was red. Blood? No way.
As soon as Richard saw me looking at his shirt he covered it up. The lights flickered on.
"Guess we won't need these anymore." Richard said.
Nick shut the flash light off. "Guess not."
Today has just been a weird experience. Why does Richard have blood on his shirt?
