I can't remember much. I just remember Rafe getting too close to my face for my liking so I spit right in his face and then I got a gun smacked across my head. I guess he smacked me pretty hard because I passed out. I finally woke up to a huge explosion.
I felt myself flying through the air. I landed pretty roughly on the ground. "What the hell was that?" I heard Rafe's voice beam, somberly.
"It's some kind of a trap. Bombs it seems, doesn't really seem like their's any other way through them than to set them off and keep moving forward." My father said. I felt his familiar hands help me up and I got up, putting my face against his chest.
"Hey! No! You have not earned your daughter back." Rafe said, yanking my arm and pulling me in front of him, putting a gun to my head. "Now, let's keep moving."
"Rafe, c'mon. That's not necessary. Just let her go. I understand, okay." Sam pleaded.
"Not until I have that treasure in my hand." Rafe growled, pushing the gun harder against my skull, making my head tilt slightly. "Now, move!" With that we were moving again, going through more and more explosions and dark tunnels. There were too many exploding mummies to count. But there was one explosion that was different because I felt my father grab my arm and rush through it rather than set it off and stand back, waiting to set it off. Rafe hadn't had the best hold on me and wasn't paying attention and with that we got away. We were sprinting through exploding mummies just hoping we were going the right direction and that the tunnels weren't gonna cave in.
Then finally there was a bright light and we were back outside again. It looked like it was some sort of ship port or dock or something. There wasn't much of being able to take in the moment though because there was gunfire from behind us as soon as we reached the light. I remember my dad grabbing my arm and pulling me before grabbing my waist and swinging us onto one of the broken ships.
Sam handed me a gun and smiled as we ducked behind some cover and started shooting at the Shoreline dudes. We moved from cover to cover as the Shoreline dudes were closing in and destroying our cover.
"Three o' clock!" I yelled at Sam, and he knocked out a dude climbing onto the ship, punching him in the stomach before hitting him in the head with his gun. More and more guys started boarding the ship so we ran and jumped onto the one beside us. Just then we could here more shots but shooting at something, or someone, else. I looked around to see where it was and Nate and Elena were shooting at Shoreline dudes on the beach.
I nudged my father. "Look." I said, pointing to them. He nodded.
"You cover them I'll cover us." He said, and so we did just that. I was shooting anyone that tried to get close to Nate and Elena. Then Sam handed me a sniper rifle. "Only got a few bullets so don't waste them." He said. I then set it up before using the four bullets it had for four head shots.
Finally Nate and Elena were able to make their way towards us. Just then I noticed that we were surrounded and they were coming to help us. I then shot about six guys before the rest of the guys were taken out as well. Nate and Elena finally got to us and I smiled and waved.
"Man, you're a sight for sore eyes." Sam said.
"Yea. How about we get off this damned beach, huh?" Nate smiled.
"Absolutely." Sam replied, dropping down the ladder for Nate and Elena to get up. Just then there was an explosion and the wood beneath our feet collapsed and we were getting shot at once again.
"Were sitting ducks in here!" I said, looking at the walls of the ship that surrounded us.
"Yea. We gotta take out that RPG!" Elena demanded.
"The cliffs! We can take cover there!" Sam said.
I began shooting at the guy with the RPG, missing more than I would like but eventually got him.
"Rocket man is down!" I say, moving out of the ship to behind some big rocks. "I got the ones up top, ya'll take the ones on the ground!" I told them as I aimed my gun to the guys on the second floor of the broken ship. I first shot a guy in the shoulder before shooting him in the gut several times, another I shot in the leg then the chest, two I got head shots on, and one I got right in the neck. "No more guys up top!" I yell, moving forward a little more and getting closer to the guys on the ground.
My father was soon beside me shooting the guys that got too close while I got the ones a little farther away. We finally took all those guys out and moved onto the ship, Sam boosted me onto the second floor and then climbed up as well. There was then another small explosion and I turned and saw the shots coming from the ship across from us.
"Ah hell, over there the other ship!" Sam started. "From the deck down below!"
"Got it!" Nate yelled and found an RPG and began shooting at the other ship while the rest of us just tried shooting them. Nathan then shot some part of the ship, making it collapse a little, giving us enough time to swing across from where we were to the other ship. We ducked behind some crates for cover before the smoke cleared up and the firing resumed.
"Guys, up top!" I yelled as I noticed the guys on the cliff. We took out most of them before rushing over and helping each other up, running until the ship started to sink.
"Nate! Billi!" I heard. The ship then sank and me and Nate were under water. We swam until we came across a beach infested with Shoreline mercs. There were crates of weapons everywhere a huge truck with what seemed to be a turret on it shooting at us. I rolled behind a crate and popped up, shooting two guys before, ducking down and reloading. I moved to another crate before popping up and shooting three more guys on the beach while Nathan focused on taking out the truck. Finally the truck rolled off the cliff and crashed, giving us a way out.
"C'mon." Nate said, we then started climbing up the crashed truck when another one pulled up.
"You've got to be kidding me." I said.
"Just run!" Nate said, and so we did.
We ran into the town while the truck was chasing us. I instantly started looking for stairs and rooftops or anything else that would put a car at a disadvantage. I then saw a staircase and immediately started running up them, then climbing onto a rooftop. Nate was right behind me and before I could even really comprehend what was going on we were jumping from rooftop to rooftop as each one was being destroyed from the truck. We were swinging and running and getting shot at. We then fell as a roof collapsed beneath us but then there was a small explosion and I could see Sully with a RPG in hand shooting at the truck. He tossed it to Nathan and Nate shot the car with it two times before it went up in flames.
"For God and liberty, asshole." Nate muttered, making me laugh a little. "That sounded better in my head....Thanks for the assist, Sully." Nate called out, as Sully began helping us up.
When we got up I saw Elena running over to Nate before giving him a hug. "How you doing?" Sully asked her.
"Good there were some close calls, but um. He covered me." Elena said, and Sam walked over.
I ran over to him, giving him a hug, not wanting to let him go. "Hey, sweetheart. You good?" I nodded as he chuckled and pulled me closer, ruffling my hair.
" So, how's that?" Nate asked, gesturing to the wrapped up bullet hole in Sam's shoulder.
"Bullet grazed my shoulder." Sam responded, letting me go and walking toward his brother. "You?"
"Cliffside...grazed my face." Nate responded, gesturing to the gash on his forehead. "So how'd ya'll lose Rafe?" He asked.
"I led his crew right into one of Avery's traps." Sam told him.
"Smart." Nathan responded.
"Hey, hey, look. About the whole Alcazar thing." He started.
"Hey just, we can save that for later, okay?" Nate told Sam. "Which way?"" Nate asked Sully.
"On the beach, other side of this town." Sully said, and they started headed where Sully pointed.
"Good. I hope all that ruckus didn't attract any attention." Elena said.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Sorry. What're we doing?" Sam asked.
"What do you think we're doing? We're getting the hell off of this rock." Sully said.
"Right. We could. Or we could head in that direction which is a short cut." Sam said, pointing behind us.
"Short cut to what?" Sully asked.
"To Avery's treasure. I mean Rafe's got to go all the way around but we could just-"
"Screw, Rafe. You just don't know when to quit." Sully said.
"We're all here for the same reason, right?" Sam said.
"We didn't come after the treasure, we came after you." Elena said, calmly with her hands on her hips.
"I appreciate that. I do. But we're good. And we've got the lead for now." Sam said. I couldn't help it. I knew that it wasn't smart but, c'mon it was Avery's treasure. I really wanted to find it. The thrill of this. It's like nothing I've ever felt before. And when it's all with my father, who I thought had died, it makes it all better. I couldn't help but agree with my father on this one. Why quit when you're ahead? We already sacrificed so much, why not just finish it out? I mean sure there's risk, but that's what makes it fun.
"We can do this." I say, earning a scold from Elena, Nate, and Sully.
"Nathan, look at this." Sam said, bringing out a slip of paper. "I found his map of the island. Okay? That's his ship right under that mountain. That's where our treasure is. And it's exactly where Rafe is headed right now while we stand around here and argue like idiots." Sam said.
"What if he already left the island and his ship sunk somewhere out there in the middle of the ocean?" Sully started.
"Then we find out where it got sunk." I say.
"Exactly." Sam said. "How long have we been chasing this thing, huh? You and me. Even Billi, now. It's in our blood. No offense to these guys but they don't get it."
"Actually Sam, they do." Nate said. "They really do. Trust me, they've seen this kind of obsession before. But Sam, we're not those kids anymore and I don't think you want your daughter to grow up to be a thief and possibly dead from this kind of work. We got nothing to prove." Nate said.
Sam opened his mouth to argue but didn't, just sighed. "Victor, where's that plane?"
"Right this way." Sully said, and led the way. I looked at Sam with pleading eyes but he just shook his head. I hung my head down and followed behind them.
