Opening her eyes and looking around the dark room, the (h/c)-ette blinked. She looked around the familiar room, eyes landing upon her alarm clock.
"11:59 p.m." It read.
Looking down at her side, she found her electronics and stuff just as she had left it the night she had appeared there.
'Was it all a dream?' She thought to herself. Now looking at her reflection, she was given an answer.
Her normal (e/c) eyes had shone a bright yellow and her cat ears and tail sagged lazily in there designated spots. Shifting a bit more to get a better look at herself, she found that she was still wearing the outfit she had wore the same day she left.
"Guess not." She thought out loud.
She gave herself a quick pout down and found her ninja pouch and holster. Removing it from her belt and leg, she took it into her hands and held it up to examine it. To her, the items she held in her hand, and the state she found herself in was living proof that her time spent in that place was no dream. She smiled to herself a bit before setting the items on her desk and picking up her phone. Turning on the device, she read the first thing she had seen out loud.
"12:02 a.m. Sunday, (date)/(month)/(year)."
She lingered on the lock screen for a while before unlocking it and going to the home screen. Instantly, she was met with a picture of herself and Kakashi. Kakashi was facing away from the screen while you was looking directly at it. Your eyes were closed into a closed eye smile as Kakashi seemed to be focused on something off in the distance. A mini flash back went through her as her eyes glazed over for a split second.
"This was from that day that I was helping Rin punish the boys. Kakashi was walking me home when I took this." She whispered to no one in particular.
Opening up her photo gallery, she went through all of the other pictures she had took when she was in the shinobi world. As she did so, only one word came to mind.
"Kakashi..."
Silent tears began to fall down and glide delicately across her masked cheeks. A sudden wave of grief overcame her as one wish came to mind. The wish to be back by the side of her companion. Her best friend, her everlasting crush and love of her life. Now that she had gotten the chance to spend time with him and get to know him more, she couldn't deny the fact that she loves him. Upon seeing that she had left him behind and lost her chance, she felt empty. The emptiness that was soon filled with sadness and regret.
How could she had let such an opportunity slip past her like that? Even if he didn't return her feelings, at least she could've spent the rest of her life by his side. She would've been happy with just that. Of course, it would've been painful, but at least it was bearable.
Then again, why was she brought back to her world? Could she really blame herself for that? She really wasn't sure. In the end, there was only one thing she was sure of. She would never fall in love with a boy from this world. It's not like she didn't want to, but she simply couldn't. Knowing that her crush did exist and was probably waiting for her return, she is no longer capable of trying to forget him.
A promise she had made to herself long ago was now forgotten. "I would never allow myself to truly fall in love." Something she told herself when she was younger. It wasn't completely made because she was young and naive, but made because she feared what would come of it. The fear that she would either not truly love the person and end up hurting them, or that they never fully held the same feelings and broke her in the process. Unknowingly to her, when she had actually met Kakashi in person, this promise had been broken.
(Y/n) laid in her bed and wept silently as she continued to take in and go over all of her precious memories. Memories, unlike her promise, that would never be forgotten. Eventually, she fell asleep, a small smile crept its way onto her face as the image of the young boy burned itself into her memory.
A small spark of hope then lit itself as she slept. The hope that she would get the honor to meet with him again.
On the other end
Kakashi's P.O.V.
I awoke in a somewhat familiar room. It was different from what I was used to but still all to familiar. Rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I look around room.
"This is (Y/n)-chan's room..." I thought out loud. Suddenly, a wave of events hit me. Memories from what had occurred last night rushing back to me in a flash. My tears began to well up once it all had registered in my mind.
"Kakashi-kun."
I turned around at the sound of her voice. I looked widly around the room but couldn't find a single trace of her.
"(Y/n)?" I called out.
No answer.
"Look!"
I turned around and saw her calendar. Today's date was circled in a bold red. Getting up from her bed, I walked up to it to get a better look.
"Graduation day!" It read.
That's when realization hit me. Today is the day I was to graduate the academy. Quickly, I took one last look around (Y/n)'s room before exiting out of her bedroom window to go get ready.
Time Skip
I sat in the empty classroom and stared out the window. I always come early, but I must say, this time it feels hollow. This room had never felt so empty before. Could it be because (Y/n) isn't here? I glanced at the spot that she would always sit in. The seat now appeared cold and incomplete, as if it was missing something.
I looked up as the first person came in and took there seat. After him came another, and then another, and before I even noticed, people was piling in one after the other.
"Good morning, Kakashi."
I looked up to see Iruka standing right in front of me.
"Good morning." I greeted back halfheartedly.
"Do you know where (Y/n)-san is?" He asked me.
I felt a stab in my heart at the mention of her name. "She' gone." I muttered.
"What do you mean 'She's gone'?" he asked, sounding a bit shocked.
"She went back home." I looked back down trying hard to keep my emotions out of my voice.
Iruka's face grew into that of something of shock and horror as the information soaked in.
"You mean she's gone?" His questioned didn't seem to be a question at all, but empty words formed from pure shock.
"Don't worry, Kakashi-kun. You always have me." I heard a nearby fangirl say in what I assume was supposed to be a seductive tone.
I didn't even bother to glance at her as I continued to stare out the window. I could feel a sudden warmth next to me, causing me to look back.
"Everything will be okay."
I looked up at Rin, who had seated herself next to me. Obito had seated himself next to Rin, both of them giving me a sympathetic look. Before I could say anything, our sensei walked into the room and started explaining our final test.
We all sat in our seats, some talking with their friends, others waiting patiently for their names to be called. Hearing my own name being called, I walked into the next room where we were to be tested.
Time Skip
I walked out of the academy with my forehead protector tied securely around my forehead.
"Kakashi-kun!" I head Rin call to me.
I turned around slightly to show her that I was listening.
"Seeing that we are on the same team and all, I thought that you, Obito, and I could eat lunch together." She spoke.
"There's something I must do first. I'll be back." I said before walking off into the direction of (Y/n)'s apartment.
Upon arriving there, I went straight to her bedroom.
"I left some scrolls of presents underneath my bed for everyone."
Her voice was loud and clear from inside my head. So loud, it was almost as if she was in the same room.
I walked over to her bed and dropped down to my knees. Peeking underneath, I found one big scroll. Grabbing it, I pulled it from underneath her bed and onto my lap. Slowly unraveling it, it revealed various inked writing.
The very first one read 'Graduation.' I did a few hand seals before summoning whatever was supposedly in there.
The black ink disappeared and in it's place stood a smaller scroll. Opening that one, I saw a list of names.
"Hatake Kakashi, Uchiha Obito, Nohara Rin, Umino Iruka, Yuhi Kurenai, Sarutobi Asuma, Might Guy."
"I'll leave you in charge of distributing them for me while I'm gone. The first ones are for the graduation tomorrow."
I tucked the scroll into my pocket and returned the bigger scroll to it's place underneath her bed. Getting up, I exited through the window once again and went out to go gather the others.
Time Skip
"What's up?" Obito asked.
"Yeah, why did you gather us all here?" Kurenai asked me.
"(Y/n) had left behind some presents for everyone and she had wished for me to give them to you all in her absence." I explained, pulling out the scroll in the process.
Everyone stared at it curiously as I placed it on the the floor and opened it up. Weaving some hand signs, I slammed my hands on the scroll and all the presents came out at once. I picked up the box with my name on it as everyone got their's. Obito was the first to open his up.
"How did she-?" He cut himself off and held his gift closer to his face. "This is that cool prize kunai I had been eyeing some time ago!" His eyes glitter in amazement as a satisfied smile made its way onto his face.
Asuma opened his next, his blue gift wrapping revealing a shiny pair of brand new, state of the art knuckle blades. Kurenai got a book of genjutsu. Guy got nunchucks, Rin received a medical book, Iruka had gotten several free coupons to Ichiraku ramen.
To say the least, they were all either surprised or pleased as they held their gifts. Upon seeing that I have yet to open my own, I began to carefully open mine. Tearing away at the shiny green wrapping paper, it had revealed a box of brand new ninja tools. Not only that, but the latest model. Gripping it in my hands, I gave a silent "Thank you." It's weird, even when she's not here, she still somehow manages to make me happy somehow.
I was brought out of my thoughts when someone had said something. Since I was to caught up in my thoughts, I couldn't quite decipher who's voice it was, but I do know that they had dismissed themselves and the others. It makes sense though, after all, we are suppose to be meeting up with our teams.
"Come on, Kakashi-kun." I heard Rin beam at me. I looked up from my gift and up at her and Obito.
"Right..." Slowly, I began to shift from my spot and follow the two. As I walked with my new team, I looked to the sky as one thought entered my head. '(Y/n), I'll be awaiting for your return. Until then, I will never forget you.'
