Without any other warning, Nadine's eye's burst open followed by a deep gasp for air from her body's delayed reaction to the shock of her death. The man that was standing in the door watching over Voltaire grabbed the doctor from behind and amidst the struggle caused a loud snap coming from the doctor's neck.
"That'll keep you busy long enough." The man said as he observed the girl on the bed who was trying to process everything around her.
He'd pull out a syringe and injects it's contents into Nadine, causing her to lose consciousness. The man poked his head outside of the room to ensure the hallway was clear before he made his way out, holding the sedated girl in his arms. As he had exited the room, one of the nurses was making her rounds and stumbled upon the mess that was left behind. An alarm was triggered and now the man took off with his vampire speed, zipping through the corridor before he could be caught.
He made it as far as the garage where a van was already started up and waiting for him. A door opened long enough for him to place Nadine into the vehicle. The door quickly shut and the van pulled out of the garage, taking off into the daylight. The man snickered as he and turned around to face the now several dozen guards that surrounded him. He placed his hands up and got to his knees, as if ready to receive whatever punishment that was ready for him.
Back in Trent's office, the Prince took his place back in his chair. He folded his hands behind his head and leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes with a confident smile on his face. Then the alarm rang loudly throughout the floor and a sudden knock came to his door.
Marcus came in without waiting for permission to enter and Trent quickly sat up in his chair. "Alarm came from downstairs, something's going on in the medical facility."
Trent got out of his chair and went over to a mantle where a large claymore sword sat proudly on display. He looked at it contemplating on grabbing it before going over to his desk and pulling out a combat machete. Marcus gave him a sigh as Trent made his way out the office and the pair headed for the elevator.
"You and your damn knifes man." He'd say while prepping his gun.
"A blade is more reliable. A clean slice at the shoulders and no vampire or human will come back from that. They don't jam and do not require bullets." He'd say as he rotated his wrist, slicing the air with the machete before putting into a sheath on his hip.
Marcus shook his head as the pair hurried out the elevator in the direction of the garage. Marcus pressed a finger to his ear, listening to the chatter on a earpiece radio. He'd turn down the hallway leading to the garage, however, Trent continued on toward the medical facility. Marcus stopped only for a moment when he realized the Prince didn't follow him right away.
"The guy is this way." As he motioned toward the garage.
"But I want to know if she's safe." Trent would mutter as he continued onward to the medical facility.
Marcus sighed and continued toward the garage, making sure the person responsible wasn't killed right away.
Trent made his way to the medical ward and discovered that Nadine was indeed missing. Voltaire jolted back awake as his body flailed around for a moment before he was suddenly lifted off his feet and slammed into a wall. Trent was holding a strong grip on the man's neck and he was clearly angry as his eyes began to darken as he spoke.
"WHERE IS SHE!?" He demanded from the doctor who tried to pry off Trent's grip off his throat. Trent slammed the doctor once more into the wall before releasing his grip and storming out of the room.
When he made it to the garage, the man who took Nadine continued to laugh at anyone who attempted to ask him for any kind of information. Trent took it upon himself to use other means to make the man talk, or at least cause him to suffer. As he arrived, the guards would part out of the Prince's path, allowing him full access to their captive. Trent dropped his sword and grabbed the man by his shirt and lifted him off the ground.
"WHERE IS SHE!?" He'd give the man a vicious shake as he yelled.
The man continued to laugh at the Prince as if he didn't care what his fate would be, he already knew he was a dead man.
"ANSWER ME! WHERE IS SHE!?" The Prince gave the man another vicious shake which was then followed by a fearsome punch and him throwing the man onto the ground.
The man continued to laugh but he did manage a reply. "You'll never get her back. Your accident has been taken care of."
Trent turned to pick up his blade, walked over to the man and thrust it through his chest. The thrust was so powerful it went through the man's chest and into the concrete. Trent twisted the blade so that it only pinned him to the ground long enough for what was to come next. The Prince spun on his heel and began to reenter the building.
"Open the garage door. If he won't talk then he's useless." His tone was clam, cold and determined as he walked back into the building with Marcus and the other guards at his heels.
As the last guard was inside, a solid windowless door shut behind them all and a guard hit a switch causing the garage door to open and allow sunlight to pour into the room. The man that was pinned to the ground continued to laugh as the suns rays filled the room and began to roast his flesh. Within a few mere moments the man was nothing more then a pile of ash.
The sedation began to wear off finally and Nadine quickly sat up in a bed. She was in a large bedroom suite, with multiple large windows that overlooked a busy and lit up cityscape. She rubbed her head trying to wrap her head around the last thing she remember.
"If you are trying to figure out the last thing you remember before you died, it'll give you a headache at this stage." Came from a voice in the room.
She turned her head to the direction the voice came from and stood before her was a girl with short ginger hair, wearing some sort of rave attire, looking over her with her arms crossed. Nadine looked at her confused and still continued to try the last thing she could remember.
"Death has a different effect on all of us while our bodies are transitioning. Most people don't care to want to remember what they were thinking or doing before they died, others just shut it out and become a whole other person, and others are able to pick up like nothing happened. And some completely forget." She'd walk over to the bed and took a hold of Nadine's hand and help her to her feet. "You are a newborn, a freshly turned vampire."
Nadine would open her mouth to make a response but the girl quickly cut her off.
"It's nothing like the movies or television. And the books have it all wrong. You are most likely some accident and wasn't meant to be turned. We drink blood and kill to survive. Learn to accept it and that no powerful, important vampire is going to waltz through your door to sweep you off your feet in some stomach churning cheesy love story."
Nadine closed her mouth and held onto her questions for someone else at a later time.
She'd walk Nadine over to a large closet and opens it. "My name is Nix and this is the Orlando Tower, home to the ruling council of the Orlando vampire society. We control the newborn population by taking them in and making sure they don't attract hunters. They stay either here or at the Sanctuary."
She'd pause for a moment before picking out various tops and holding them up determining what would look best on Nadine. "And hunters are a people who hunt vampires and kill them. Like those dreamy brothers that do it on television." She'd get lost in her thoughts for a moment before deciding on a top and then would repeat the process with various skirts. Finally after finding what she'd think is a good outfit she'd throw the clothing at Nadine and starts digging for shoes.
"There was this guy." Nadine would start to mutter to herself.
Nix pops her head back out and looks up at her. "That's how it normally happens. You hook up with a guy, have a night of amazing sex, he looses control and turns you into a vampire. Now get dressed, I'm going to show you your new world."
Nadine would give a nod and simply pulls off the dress she was wearing and dresses herself in an over revealing pleather top and very short skirt, pair with a pair of clear platform heels, an attire best worn for going to a club. She looked awkward and uncomfortable in the new clothing, Nix gives a nod of approval before going back to looking for shoes.
After finding a pair of shoes and Nix doing Nadine's hair and make up the pair made their way out of the room. The floor they were on was busy with several vampires, like it was an apartment floor for just vampires. They arrived at the elevator and Nix give the down button a few taps before turning back to Nadine. She seemed to fuss with Nadine's new attire, doing her best to make the newborn more comfortable.
"Oh, and politics. The most you really need to know to survive at least. Almost every city has a Prince as their ruler, it's a title that can be applied to male or female. Large cities such as Orlando are too large to be ran by one person and so places like here, New York, and Los Angeles have more of a council to manage the city better." The elevator would open it's doors and the two stepped in, Nix continued on with her explanations. "Then each state is ran by a Grand Council. They appoint the princes to their position unless the Prince of the city chooses to step down and appoint their own successor, or the Prince dies. The Grand Council also makes sure that the cities are running up to their standard."
Nadine was extremely overwhelmed with the amount of information that was pouring from this girl. Nix snickered into a laugh. "OK, simply put, if someone says that person is powerful, just listen and don't question it. Newborns come and go in their first year because they do stupid shit and get killed for it."
Nadine managed to make a nod of agreement. "That's a bit easier to follow." She whispered softly.
As the elevator reached their destination floor the pair walked hand and hand out of the tower. Nadine was quickly overwhelmed with her newly heightened senses. She could see everything and any thing that glimmered quickly caught her attention. She took in a deep breath, smelling various smells that mixed in the air. The sounds of the cars driving by, people chattering in the streets and the sounds of various nightlife felt deafening to her. As she put her hands to her ears, she could feel the smoothness of her face and the texture of her fingers at once. Nix did her best to keep the newborn from falling over and to keep her clam.
"It's a bit overwhelming but it gets more enjoyable once you get to used to it."
The pair continued down several street blocks, having to stop at every thing that caught too much of Nadine's attention.
Finally after several hours of walking, the pair arrived to what looked like an old abandoned building on the outside. "This is it. 'Club Nightstalker'." Nix chuckled at the club's name and took Nadine's hand and dragged her through.
"It doesn't look like a club at all. Where's the sign?" She'd ask as they walked around the building and walked through an oddly comprehensive security checkpoint.
When the pair made it through the checkpoint Nix paused for a moment at the main doors. "It's to prevent hunters sneaking in. This club has never had a hunter ever made it into this club. And now, welcome, to 'Club Nightstalker'."
She'd then pressed the doors open to reveal a black-light lit rave club with a large dance floor and ear piercing loud music. Nadine hesitated for a moment, doing her best to adjust her ears to the sound of the music but Nix gave her little chance for that and she was dragged inside.
"Only vampires and select humans are allowed in. Both are screened from top to bottom to make sure nothing dangerous is brought in." She stopped at one of the various bars, now dancing slightly to the music that filled the air.
Nadine stood awkwardly and confused and out of place as she was dragged through the crowd.
Nix tapped on the bar counter to get the bartender's attention. "Lets get you loosened up so I can show you how to feed properly."
The bartender comes over and looks Nadine over with a confused look on his face at the scantily dressed girl who looked well out of her element. "Newborn?"
Nix chuckled and nodded. "Two my usual drinks."
The bartender gave Nix a stern look and she slide a card over to him. He picked it up and simply nodded. While the bartender was prepping the drinks, Nix pulled out a rather large white pill from her pocket. This quickly caught Nadine's attention. "I don't do drugs."
Nix chuckled at the fact Nadine was doing her best to still keep her innocence. Nix would start grinding the large pill on the counter's surface, dismissing Nadine's comment.
"You'll be fine. It's standard practice for Newborns, helps you get past that first taste. I'm sure what little bit of human is still lingering isn't jumping for joy at the fact of drinking a tall glass of blood. You'll be perfectly fine and you need to stop being so...." Nix would brush the crushed pill into what will be Nadine's drink.",human. Just let yourself go and stop thinking about it." She shoved the glass into Nadine's hand and then quickly drank hers.
Nadine pondered for a moment before closing her eyes and downing the drink. It tasted like a mix of blood, alcohol and poorly crushed up medicine and the slight cringe on face quickly melded into a blank stare. She sat on one of the bar stools as she opened her eyes wider and everything around her became more blurry and her already heightened senses were even more heightened. Before she knew it it, Nix had managed to drag her out into the middle of the large crowd on the dance floor. The lights dance around her and the bass of the music made her skin crawl more.
The room felt to her as if it was rapidly spinning around her and she could feel a set of hands wrapped around her waist. She looked down for a moment to realize it was a man and the pair were grinding against each other to the rhythm of the music. The pair were both entranced by the music that they began kissing each other on the dance floor, his hands slowly inching down from her waist, over her hips and past the edge of her skirt to touch her exposed skin on her thighs. She'd start kissing him more and trailing her kisses down to his neck. He was distracted by where he was moving his hands as he started kissing along her neck as well, while moving one of his hands backup, slowly slipping under her skirt.
Her hands would come to a rest on the guy's shoulders as her kissing went from playful nipping to light biting to her fangs digging deep into his skin. At the same moment, he'd the same thing, digging his fangs into her skin and at the moment he tasted her blood he quickly pulled her off of him. The guy took a strong grip at her face, peering into her eyes to see that her pupils were highly dilated.
"What's a newborn doing here? And who the hell gave you VK2?" He seemed to ask himself as he drags her out of the crowd and out of the building.
Nadine only peered around for Nix, who was long gone by now. Once Nadine and this guy were out of the main building, he took his jacket off and did his best to cover her up as he pulled out a cell phone and made a phone call.
"Hey, I found a newborn. Higher then a kite and you'll never guess where I found it."
He'd be doing his best to keep Nadine still, who was spinning in circles staring up at the night sky. Several times she'd almost trip over herself.
"No, no, not there." He'd continue on as Nadine manages to trip over herself, now intrigued by how the ground felt against her skin. "Nightstalker. I don't have to explain why I was there, that's not the point. Not sure how she was let in, but someone let a newborn in."
He had taken his eyes off her for a moment when a passing Samaritan was attempting to help what they thought was a drunk girl off the ground. The guy turns back around and quickly sputters into his phone. "I'll be there soon."
He quickly hang up his phone and moves the passerby away from the drugged, high and most likely hungry vampire newborn sitting on the ground. "She's just drunk and I've called a cab, I've got it under control." It was enough to convince the passerby as they simply shrugged and continued walking off.
It was already difficult for Nadine to grasp her surroundings as a new vampire, it became much more difficult for her to comprehend everything around her while she was high. She knew somewhere in the deepest darkest back corner of her mind that someone was leading her somewhere. She made the walk to wherever she was going quite difficult as she stopped to stare at everything that caught her attention. In her current state, that meant everything that was around her to include several close calls of her almost biting random people that passed her on the street. The man that was with her, managed to pull her off at the last moment, claiming she was simply too drunk to make logic choices.
The pair arrived at a large steel door and while the man paused to dig in his pockets, Nadine pressed her face against the cold door.
"This feels amazing! I can feel the cold and the metal and the paint and soildness of this...this...this...."
The man sighed, trying to remain focused and not trying to laugh at the poor girl's situation.
"Door."He'd help finish her sentence as he swiped a card over a sensor and the door suddenly opened up on it's own, causing Nadine to fall forward inside onto her face. "Alright, come on, lets get you back on your feet." The man said as he stepped inside as well, trying to help the now giggling hysterically girl.
He continued through an open floor, which looked like a foyer of a mansion. There were many people chilling out on the various couches and most stopped their conversations as they watched the pair walk though and down one of the many hallways. The pair were quickly stopped by a tall, old and scruffy man with his arms crossed looking down onto them.
"I thought you swore off going to that club, Josh." Josh grumbled for a moment before tilting his head at Nadine. "And I thought no one stupid enough to allow a newborn into Nightstalker either."
The pair stare each other down for a few more moments before snickering at each other and then grabbing each other's hand like a manly high five.
"So what are you going to do with her?" The older man asked Josh.
"Not sure." Josh would open a room door, dragging in the still easily distracted and high Nadine. "First off we need to get her sober and find out if she even -knows- she's a vampire. I don't even think she knows what she ingested. She might be getting sick too, I doubt that whatever she drank was just blood."
He'd attempt to lay Nadine on a large bed in the room as gentle as possible, but simply ended in her rolling off onto the other side and hitting the floor with a loud thud. The older man would let out a soft chuckle.
"Guess you are babysitting this one tonight, Josh. I'll bring some blood for the two of you, and maybe some alcohol for me." He'd close the room's door and the sound of his chuckling can still be heard as he walks off.
Josh would walk to the other side of the bed to get Nadine back onto the bed. She'd wrap her arms around his neck and as he tries to lay her down, she wouldn't let go of him. "No no no no, you need to let go." He'd try to pry her arms off him and while he was distracted, Nadine would roll over causing her to now be on top of him. Josh would close his eyes and laid still for a moment as the high newborn would start rocking her hips against him. "I'm not doing that and you need to rest. Your hangover is going to be a bitch as it is." He'd grab a hold of Nadine's waist and rolled her off enough to get her off of him, though the newborn continued to keep rolling till she was back on the floor. "I give up on you." Josh would mutter frustratedly to himself as he takes a seat in a lounge chair that sat across from the bed and rubbed his forehead with his fingers.
A knock came to do the door, which was then opened by the older man carrying a few blood bags, a bottle of liquor and three glasses, one of which he handed to Josh. "She must of woken sometime this evening." The man said as he sat the tray down on a table.
"Yeah, I figured seeing as how she almost made out with the front door. The mixture of new senses and that drug in her system must of been overwhelming for her."
The older man poured blood into Josh's glass and the liquor into his. "So you found her at Nightstalker."
Josh would be sipping at his glass and nodding, staring at the now passed out Nadine on the floor. "And judging by how high she is, I am fairly certain she had at LEAST a full dose of VK2." He'd take a few more sips from his glass.
The older man took a seat in a chair next to Josh, joining in watching the newborn sleep. "Thankfully it was you she bite and not a human."
The pair nodded in agreement at the comment.
"So Theodore, what is new at the house?" Josh would look over to the older man, who would chuckle for a moment.
"Just because we are buddies doesn't mean I don't enjoy being called 'Lord'."
Josh would be mid sip of his glass before shooting the man with a glare.
"Not like I've ever heard you call me that. I think the day you call me with my title I might as well walk out onto the street in broad daylight." Theodore would continue.
The pair continued sitting and watching Nadine sleep, checking their watches every few hours waiting for her to finally wake up. Theodore left the two for a moment to insure there was appropriate clothing ready for her as well as to start looking and asking around about who Nadine's sire was. Josh had finally nodded off to sleep as the day had come and gone again when Nadine started to stir on the floor before doing her best to sit her self up. Panic filled her face as she realized she didn't know where she was. Josh scrambled out of his chair to quiet and calm her down.
"Shhh shhhh shhh, your safe."
