Chapter 1 Brother

By Bladewing683

"Come on Brine!" Notch yelled to his younger brother, whose eyes, curiously, glowed with a soft, white light, lacking any irides or pupils of any kind that he could see.

Brine groaned and followed his elder brother," Why are we doing this again?"

" Come on! It's going to be fun! We can create all sorts of different things!" Notch said, no doubt excited to share his passion of creation with the white eyed boy.

" Yeah, sure. Definitely fun," Brine muttered sarcastically.

" Aw come on! You haven't even tried it yet! Don't be a killjoy, I'll show you!"

Deciding that maybe Notch had a point, Brine gave a shrug and followed him, and gave ideas and suggestions about the animals and plants they will create. How would they look? How would the animals act? With simple snaps of his fingers, Notch created all those beings, and judging from the goofy grin he had on his face ninety percent of the time, he was undoubtly pleased with his work.

Brine simply watched his brother, and the longer he watched, the more he realized his brother was correct. He longed to create. But Notch told promised him that he will be taught the art of creation later, once he was older. Brine was overjoyed, jumping up and down like he was hyped on sugar when he heard the news.

Now that the world and its ecological system was completed, it was time for Notch to create Minecraftians, more human beings, and fill the world with them.

He created a boy, who looked exactly like Brine except for the colour of his eyes, which were regal shade of purplish blue. The boy, like Brine, will grow. And eventually, he will also have powers of creation.

He created a girl, and named her Alex, who had orangish blond hair, who wore an light green shirt, brown pants and grey shoes. The first female on the land.

He was satisfied with what he saw, but he realized that sooner or later, life ends. And when they do, where would they go?

Notch then created different realms, or dimensions if you wanted to call them that way. He created a heavenly world, called the Aether, filled with elegant whites and blues. He then created a fiery landscape, with a great lava sea and was constantly on fire, which was called the Nether. Two realms, two permanent homes for the deceased.

He was satisfied with what he created, and began to teach Brine, who was observing closely, curiously.

Brine kept wondering how could his brother create objects out of the thin air, and was determined to learn.

Notch triggered some of his powers, and taught him to create. At first, Brine struggled. But then Notch told him to concentrate on the thing that he wanted to create, using his imagination.

Brine poured in his power like the way Notch taught him to, as soft white light formed in his hands, creating something with a wooden handle, and a glacial blue, curved piece at the top.

It was a diamond tool.

Notch was stunned that Brine had managed to create a tool, something he hadn't even started with yet. And he had summoned the rarest precious stone with his magic.

Brine too, was surprised. He looked at the tool in wonder, its glacial blue top piece gleaming and glitted in the sunlight, painting the ground blue where the light reflected off it.

Notch named it it a pickaxe. A diamond pickaxe, to be specific, and continued to teach Brine.

He had sent Steve and Alex on their way to live by themselves and learn to survive. He programmed them with the ability to respawn when they were killed. After all, once they were ready, Notch has great plans for them.

Notch taught Brine how to fight to defend himself with a sword. He taught him how to craft different weapons with different materials, from wood, to stone, and finally to iron.

After seven years of training, Brine was now fourteen. He paid furious attention to Notch's lessons and tips, trying to absorb knowledge in any way he could. He knew that it is an important skill, one that could save his life someday, and therefore advancing quickly.

He learnt to avoid feints and tricks, how to slash and cut, block and deflect, or even dodging and counterattack right after. Notch taught him martial arts, as well as hand to hand combat, as those were important too if he lost his weapon and would need to fight with his bare hands. After, you never know what was going to happen in a fight.

Aside from teaching him how to hover and summon simple items, Notch didn't seem too keen to teach him how to use his powers, constantly saying that he wasn't ready. Brine complained, but his brother wasn't eager to relent either, so Brine focused on what he could improve on, instead.

After several years of training, Brine had advanced quickly and improved vastly. He had the blood of a fighter flowing through his veins, he could feel it, he never gave up or surrendered without a fight. He always did his best and poured in every ounce of effort in training, hoping that he would impress Notch enough someday, that he could finally learn about his powers.

Notch was impressed. He saw the fierce spirit within him too. He couldn't put into words how proud he was of his brother, how much he had grown. He knew that Brine would be a brave, honerable, and loyal warrior someday, and it was the time to grant him his gift.

"Brine! Come over here," he gestered for Brine to follow, and summoned a diamond sword, then gave it to him," This is your diamond sword now. You have earned it. Use it well, brother. Remember my teachings."

Brine accepted the gift with both of his hands, and stared at the blade in wonder. He had never been allowed to keep any swords before. It was long and straight, the blade almost transparent with a glacial blue colour. The edge was sharp and deadly, Brine hefted the sword, which felt surprisingly light in his hands, he looked down and he could have sworn that he saw a small white flame, which disappeared as soon as it appeared.

He practiced daily for hours on end, hacking through every dummy that Notch told him to hit. He slashed through then like they were made of paper, his blade passed through the air swiftly, the air itself parted before the sharp edge.

The dummies exploded into straws and strings, every strike Brine delivered was a deadly one, he stabbed through chests and backs, he looped off the heads of his opponent, becoming the one of the best swordsman in Minecraftia, only second to Notch, as Notch had created more Minecraftians and villagers.

Notch taught the Minecraftians how to live off the land, and how to fight to protect themselves from the mobs, and the knowledge was also passed onto Steve and Alex, who had also taken it upon themselves to teach others how to survive.

As the years passed, prosperity did not last long, problems and skirmishes arose, and chaos broke out in both the Aether and Nether, as the mobs there were had no rational leader to lead them, and settle disputes.

Notch then decided to leave the overworld to Steve and Alex to take care of, now that they had proved to be reliable guardians. He decided that he would be the ruler of the Aether, along with the rest of Minecraftia, looking after the deceased souls. There, among the heavenly place, he created a majestic castle, made of quartz and coloured glass. As for the Nether, he created one of the most powerful mobs, the Wither, to rule over the others and maintain peace and prosperity.

Notch still returned to the overworld to see Brine from time to time again, but now the boy has more time to himself, to explore and to create, occasionally adding new updates, the piston being one of his creations.

One of the reasons he created the piston was that Notch had always been away, and when he came back he tended to tell Brine every single thing and interesting fact up in the Aether, which was kind of annoying since he was speaking quickly, Brine would push him several blocks away using the piston so he would he forced to slow down. Brine even made the mistake of using a sticky piston at one time. The piston kept on pushing and pulling back, Notch was stuck on the piece of wood and how he looked like was priceless, Brine always had a good laugh out of that.

One day, Notch was off to the Aether and Brine was bored, he took out his diamond sword and looked for some mobs to kill. Notch wouldn't mind as long as he didn't kill off the entire species, the mobs spawned almost everywhere and there were a constant number of them anyway.

Why mobs? Well, Brine wanted to fight something that would fight back, not just stand there and let him kill, that would be more of a challenge to test his skills, instead of just hacking at an unmoving dummy again and again.

He left the house, or mansion that he and Notch had been living in, and went into the woods in search of an opponent.

It didn't take him long to find mobs, he found a creeper, who studied him, and hissed as he came close. The creeper then flashed and swelled up, Brine was confused, wasn't it going to attack?

The creeper blew up, knocking Brine several blocks backward.

Oh, Brine rubbed his head, that's how it attacks.

He then searched for more mobs for him to wet his blade.

He found a spider, who leapt at him, he sliced it into half in midair with ease after blocking one of its claws.

He spotted a couple skeletons hiding in the shade of a tree, which fired at him. He grunted as the first arrow hit him in the shoulder, and slashed the other aside, then blocked the third projectile and dodged the forth one. Before either one of them could fire one more arrow, Brine had already decapitated them, their pure white skulls rolled to the ground and the rest of their bony bodies fell to the dirt as well with a hollow clanking noise.

As he pulled out the arrow in his shoulder, he heard rustling sounds, and he perked up, his white eyes searching for any sign of danger or a target.

Something splattered on him from the back, immediately, he turned, but to his astonishment, he was turning in slow motion.

He cursed himself for being careless, it was a potion of slowness, splashed onto him by a witch.

When he finally managed to turn, the witch had already splashed a potion of harming on him, causing his body to erupt in pain.

Pain coursed through his body, but he knew it would pass soon when the potion wore off, he gritted his teeth against it and hid behind a tree to avoid being hit by more potions, when he peeked out, he narrowly avoided being hit by an unknown potion, which flew past him and smashed open onto the ground. He looked to see a potion of poison.

Luckily the potion missed, he thought to himself, relieved.

Once he felt the pain dimming, and his movements less sluggish, he lurched from behind the tree, aiming for the witch.

The witch's eyes widened in surprise, she shook so bad that her hat almost fell off. She frantically tossed a few potions at Brine, not even bothering to aim.

Brine saw the incoming potions. He leapt, causing one of them to pass under his feet. He slashed another aside with his sword, and twisted his head to dodge the third.

Brine was about to plunge the sword into the witch's chest when she suddenly shouted," Wait!"

Brine froze, his sword still pointing at the witch.

The witch bowed at him," Lord Brine, Brother of Notch, I am sorry for hitting you with my potion, I thought you were that other Minecraftian, Steve. Please spare my life, I didn't mean it."

"What do you have against Steve?" Brine asked sharply, not taking his sword away from the witch.

The witch trembled and shook even more at Brine's harsh tone," Lord Brine, he killed my sister, I have to take my revenge."

Brine understood, he simply sighed and lifted his sword away from the witch," Go take it then. But do not bother me again."

The witch bowed and groveled," Yes sir, yes sir," while retreating back into the woods. He wasn't bothered about Steve getting killed, he's just going to respawn, anyway.

Brine sauntered off again, but the encounter sent him thinking, if the mobs have feelings like the witch did, what would the close ones of the mobs think of those he had killed? What would Notch think of him?

From that day after, he never intentionally hunted any mobs again.

When Notch went home from the Aether, Brine asked him to teach him more sword fighting techniques and a dummy that would fight back.

Notch just chuckled," You just love to fight, don't you?" He snapped his fingers, and told Brine," There is now a dummy in the training room. As for teaching you techniques, I will teach you after dinner, I am starving," he looked over at Brine," you made dinner right?"

Brine didn't speak, but he looked sheepish, he scratched his blocky head," I uh..."

"You didn't, didn't you?" Notch finished his sentence for him.

Brine didn't answer, he snapped his fingers and some cooked chicken, baked potatoes, and steak appeared on the dining table. Notch raised his eyebrows but didn't say anything. He sat down and began to eat, rapidly shovelling food into his mouth.

Brine also ate, but comparatively less than his ever hungry brother.

After Notch had finished his meal, he took Brine to the training area, and indeed, the dummy was there.

Brine took out his diamond sword, and charged.

The dummy was only armed with a wooden sword, but it was able to meet Brine's charge. It blocked Brine's sword with its own, then twisted and attempted to slash at him.

Brine evaded the strike, and counter attacked, slipping through one the gaps, and pierced the dummy in the chest.

The dummy fell to the ground, unmoving. Notch snapped his fingers, and the dummy repaired itself, its movements faster.

"Time for Round Two," Notch announced.
