Chapter 8
Sally’s POV
The next morning, I woke up to a completely different scenery. The room, which was previously the size of a closet, was now twice the size as the room back at home. There was bright light shining in from a window which previously did not exist. The room was fully furnished with a wardrobe, study table, a queen size bed and even a personal bathroom. The room was actually much like Lucifer’s, but more decorated to match my taste. The wall paper was gray, splashed with different colors. The ceiling was whit sprinkled with small multi-color dots.
I was almost about to release a sigh of contentment when I realized who must’ve done all this.
Satan.
Next to my bed was a bed side table, with an alarm clock. However, what shocked me was the time; it read 10 am. My eye brows shot up in confusion. How was I not woken up for the torture sessions?
His voice came back to me: You will not regret your decision Sally. I will offer you complete immunity as long as you stay by my side!
I felt slightly relieved to be exempt from the torture sessions, but a shudder went through me as I wondered what he would do if he ever found out I was double-crossing him.
I decided it was high time I got out of bed. I slipped out of bed and headed toward the bathroom to carry out my morning duties. I gasped in shock and surprise as I saw the bathroom. It was grand! It had a bath tub with assorted bath products surrounding it right in the center of the bathroom. There was a shower at the back right and a toilet and fancy sink at the left. As tempted as I was to take a long, hot bath, I decided it would be best to take a quick shower.
I walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around me, still dripping wet. I didn’t have any clothes to change into, so I decided to check the wardrobe. I opened the wardrobe, only to find my old clothes in there. My clothes… back from home. My mind wandered back to my family and friends and how they must be coping. Tears pricked the corners of eyes, and I quickly wiped them off.
I grabbed a set of clothes blindly, and dropped my towel, ready to change. However, when I turned around, a loud squeal escaped my lips and I scurried to wrap the towel back around me. Lucifer looked up from the magazine, his eyes widening in shock and his mouth opening in surprise.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked; my voice two octaves higher.
“I – uh – I…” He stuttered. His face was completely red and I didn’t have to look in the mirror to know my face was probably the same shade as his… or maybe not, considering I’m dead and all.
“Get out, please.” I spoke slowly, almost commanding my voice to remain even. He nodded quickly, and rushed out the room.
I sighed, and walked to the door, locking it behind him. I furrowed my brows and decided to close the windows as well, just in case. It took me around 5 minutes to get dressed. I didn’t bother with any of the make-up items that were left in the wardrobe, nor did I bother to comb my hair. It would dry up fine by itself.
Before I could change my mind, I headed off to Lucifer’s room, which was right opposite mine. I knocked lightly at the door, almost hoping he wasn’t there. He opened the door almost immediately; however, I noticed that he was sitting in his chair staring at the ceiling, not even close to the door.
I walked in quietly, shutting the door behind me with a quiet click. His gaze flitted towards me and he blushed almost suddenly, and I knew he was thinking about the earlier incident.
“Can we just forget about it?” I asked, my voice pleading.
He looked at me intensely and I was almost willing to bet he was trying to read my thoughts. I built up that internal wall instantly, in order to prevent him from reading my thoughts. I tried it with him yesterday, but gained no reaction. However, when I tried the same thing with Satan, he looked shocked, and gave me an almost approving nod. However, I sense that behind that little nod of his was a great deal of suspicion.
For now at least, though, I was able to convince Satan that I was on his side.
“How did you do that?” Lucifer asked suddenly, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“What do you mean?” I asked, not catching on to his train of thought.
“Block me out of your mind?” He verified.
I shrugged, and plopped down on his bed. “I just imagine a brick wall blocking your mind from entering mine, and I guess it worked. I wasn’t really expecting much though…” I trailed off, letting my confusion show on my face.
He didn’t look satisfied with my answer. “Why white?” He continued to question me.
“I don’t really know. I guess it’s because white is the opposite of black. Black is bad, white is good.” I explained, hoping my logic made sense to him.
He nodded slowly, as if trying to make sense of what I said.
“Anyways,” I interrupted his thoughts, “what’d you come in my room for earlier?” I asked, hoping to avoid any awkwardness.
“Oh, Satan wanted to see you.” He said, normally.
“Umm… sure thing, I guess…” I may be wrong, but weren’t we supposed to be planning ways to throw Satan off?
I decided to leave it at that for now, and go see what Satan wanted from me.
He walked me out to the door, and before shutting it, he smirked and spoke the words I dreaded hearing: “By the way, you looked pretty hot in there!”
As I walked to Satan’s chambers, I made sure to put up my wall, and let my thoughts swim behind them.
My thoughts mainly revolved around two things: Lucifer seeing me naked, and Satan wanting to see me. However, at the moment, my humiliation in front of Lucifer was taking the larger part of my mind.
I may not have been physically blushing, but I was burning from humiliation inside. Did he really think I was hot? A completely irrelevant, not to mention, pointless, stupid and unnecessary question!
Back at home, I was usually the nerdy type. I didn’t pick clothes that reveal – aren’t clothes meant to cover you? – And I was never labeled as pretty or even remotely attractive.
As my thoughts were plunged into confusion, I reached Satan’s chambers pretty quickly. Before I even had the chance to knock, the doors opened to reveal Satan himself.
I still was pretty nervous hanging around the Devil himself, but I felt slightly better knowing he thought of me as an ally.
He gestured to his extravagant sofa, which was covered in animal skin. Holding back a shudder of unease, I sat on it with an emotionless expression; much like the one Lucifer wears all the time.
“So I assume you must’ve seen the new room I allotted you?” Satan asked, raising his eyebrows.
I nodded in a civil manner. “Yeah, it was really nice. Thanks.” And just for good measure, I added a smile, to show him how grateful I was.
“I’m glad you think so, Sally. I just wanted to ensure that you haven’t back tracked on the deal we made yesterday. I really don’t like double-crossers.” He had a sinister smile in place, and I had a strong urge to cower in fear. However, I stood my ground, clinging on to the hope that he couldn’t read my mind.
“I will stick to the deal, sir.” I gave him an affirmative nod.
“Good, good.” He snapped his fingers, and in front of us, appeared a plate of fries and a glass of coke for me.
“Now tell me, how far have you come regarding the task I assigned you?” He questioned, taking slow sips of his wine. I internally gulped.
“Well, I have managed to interact with him in a friendlier manner. I guess since I told him I was no longer a charge, he became less… hardened to my presence.”
At my words, Satan let out a thunderous laugh. For a second, I was scared that perhaps, I accidently let something slip.
“My dear child,” he began; his tone light, “he was never hardened to you! If I wasn’t mistaken, I’d say that my boy has started to develop a little crush on you!”
For a moment, he almost looked like a normal dad. His eyes were crinkled, and he was smiling in a carefree manner. If it wasn’t for the horns on his head, and his flickering tail, I would have been made completely at ease.
“I really don’t think he sees me that way sir,” I said truthfully. I mean, really? Lucifer, I mean, the Lucifer, liking me, out of everyone else? He could literally have any girl he wanted.
Satan shook his head at me, still smiling. “Sometimes, I envy you mortals. You live such a carefree life, with no clue of what is really out there, waiting for you.” He shook his head in amusement.
“Anyways, you’re free for today and tomorrow. It’s what you call a week-end back on earth. It’s a free day for all, and you are allowed to do whatever you wish.”
My brows furrowed in confusion. They had a week-end in Hell?
“Actually,” Satan interrupted my train of thought, “I think I’ll extend in to three days!” My thoughts jumbled up even more. He waved me off, dismissively.
Just as I was about to leave, with my questions unanswered, Satan spoke up again. “Sally, you are not on duty of the week-end, However, my son likes to spend a lot of time on earth when he’s free, and I have no idea what he does there. My powers only reach so far. So Sally, feel free to accompany my son, alright?”
That may have sounded like a normal question, but I heard the double meaning lying beneath the surface.
He expected me to take my role as an undercover agent, and help him destroy his own son.
