The Gender
"You should really go home and sleep."

Despite getting pregnant before I was even settled down here. And regretting who it was with as day by day went I didn't regret being pregnant. It was scary in the beginning because I didn't have my new life figured out. But I loved the tiny human growing in me.
I knew one day I would want to start a family. I knew I wanted to have kids, it was something I always thought about when I was way too young to think about my future unborn child. I thought about how I'd tell my family, to the baby shower, and how the nursery would look.
And now If was real. I was pregnant and all I wanted to know was what the gender would be.

I was nervous today, a couple of days ago I went to the hospital with Madison to get my blood drawn. Shawn had set up an appointment for with through his friend. I was actually going to find out the gender of the baby.
Though the way I would've imagined planning it all is different. Like my sister would've been the only one knowing and we would've done a party with my family. I would've had games and had people guess what they think the baby is.
But unfortunately I ran away from my family because they were too much for me. My mom ruined that. The money ruined that. So I sat there waiting for the call with Madison as she was FaceTiming Serenity.
"Do you think it's a boy or girl?" Serenity asked.
I looked over at the phone and shrugged, "I don't know."
"What do you want it to be?" Madison asked.
I laughed, "I don't know, I'm happy with whatever. I just can't wait to hold them and to be able to decorate my nursery."
Madison and Serenity both laughed at my last comment. I have a things for decorating.
"I think it's gonna be a girl." Madison said.
Serenity shook her head, "Nope it's a boy."
My leg bounced up and down in anticipation. I was so nervous and felt like the call couldn't come sooner.
"Maybe it won't be today." I told them.
"Did she say she would call today?" Madison asked.
I nodded, "Then she will call." Serenity told me trying to assure me.
I reached up to my necklace, it was a cross my grandmother gave me. I never take it off besides when I'm taking a shower. It was my comfort object, something I grabbed when I was nervous or scared. It made me feel safe, it was like my grandmother was with me whenever I felt scared.
Just then my phone started to ring, we all jumped. I quickly grabbed the phone, clicked answer, and put it on speaker.
"Hello?" I asked.
I could feel my heart beating at a thousand miles per hour. My stomach filled with anticipation.
"Hi Peyton." I heard that familiar voice belonging to Shawn.
I looked at Madison and Serenity confused, "Shawn? What do you want?"
"Wow and here I thought you'd be pleased to hear me calling." He said trying to sound hurt by what I said.
"Normally I would be but at the moment I'm waiting for a very important call. I'm finding out the gender of my baby at any moment." I explained to him.
He chuckled, "That is why I'm calling I'm with Dr. Drew who has your results. I volunteered to call."
I felt my heart skip a beat, this was the call. The girls looked at me excitedly. Well I think Serenity did, her wifi was shitty so it would freeze here and there.
"Oh okay sorry." I apologized.
"Hello Peyton Doctor Drew here are you ready to find out what you're having?" She asked.
"Yes!" I said excitedly.
"You are having a...a beautiful healthy baby girl!" The doctor told us.
I sat the phone down and covered my mouth. And could feel my hands shaking. Tears filled my eyes as a pair of arms wrapped around me. Madison hugged me as I heard Serenity cheering from the phone.
"Is there anything else you would wish to know?" I heard the doctor ask from my phone.
Madison pulled away and I wiped away my happy tears. I picked up my phone and took it off speaker. I put it up to my ear.
"Um no, unless there's anything bad or need to know worthy?" I asked.
I heard her chuckle, "No nothing the baby and you are in healthy conditions you have an appointment at the end of November just to see how she's doing. Other than that you both are fine just remember to be walking and eating healthy."
"Will do Doctor thank you so much." I told her feeling incredibly happy.
"You are welcome here's Shawn," she told me before handing it over to him, "Hey congrats!"
I laughed, "Thank you."
I looked as Madison continued talking to Serenity in the kitchen.
"Are you excited?" He asked.
"Yeah I mean I would've been excited no matter what but like a little mini me? Shoot I'm going to have a sassy diva soon." I joked.
"Every girls dream I'm sure. I have to go back to work but hope you and Madison have fun. Congratulations again Peyton." Shawn said and I could just picture his smile.
"Thank you for everything. Have fun." I told him before we both said our goodbyes.
I then got up and walked over to where Madison was. She served us ice cream as we talked with Serenity for a little longer. Serenity was already talking about what she was going to buy for her future niece.
"I call being god mother!" Madison said quickly.
"That's not fair I wanted to be god mother!" Serenity complained.
"Madison can have this one since she called it being a girl. And if some day I get pregnant and it's planned with the right person then you will be the god mother for them." I told the both of them.
Serenity then started to argue with Madison which made me laugh. I walked out of the kitchen and away from their bickering. I went up the stairs and to the empty nursery. I smiled knowing exactly how I wanted to decorate it. I touched the little bump on my stomach and smiled.
"Can't wait to meet you little me." I whispered as I looked down at it.

And so that day I knew I was going to have a little mini me. I for some reason always wanted a girl first. I want a boy and a girl but for some odd reason I always hoped for a girl. And now I have her.
