Beacon Academy: The Courtyard
"Pleeeeeease?" Ruby Rose of team RWBY is seen on her knees as she begs pleads whilst grabbing Weiss Schnee by her ankles and violently shakes them but not with any actual force, other students pass by and glare at them with confusion
"You want to do what!? Is there something I don't know about?" Weiss looks down at Ruby before shifting her attention to Yang Xiao Long with confusion on her face. "Please hurry, people are starting to stare at us."
"My dear sister Ruby wants to go to central Vale and do some further investigation on Roman Torchwick, a crook who she encountered at a store called From Dust Till Dawn." Yang nods and does not follow up
"Okay." Weiss nods. "Keep going. I'm not convinced in the slightest considering the police have it under control."
"Aw come on Weiss you and I both know those dumb cops are never going to catch some as slippery as that guy." Ruby shakes her head. "With that many expendable people who throw away and a stolen ship as a convenient getaway vehicle, it's going to take a lot more than dumb cops."
"And what makes you think we're qualified? We just started our first semester of our first year at Beacon. Even second, third or any other students wouldn't be qualified, maybe our professors but that's about it."
"Becauseeeee!" Yang tries to stall while she comes up with something to say
"THEY WON'T SEE US COMING, Team RWBY on their first mission to take down some bad guys, isn't it genius?" Ruby cackles
"No, absolutely not. We haven't even been assigned our first mission as a team that will be supervised by a professor and that will be months from now. Alright come on, we have class relatively soon! Now get off me!" Weiss shrugs and light shoves Ruby back with the softest and weakest kick anyone has ever seen
"Ow!" Ruby rises to her after her exaggerated yelp. "How dare you attack your leader, you should be following me instead."
"Lighten up Weiss; skipping one class won't hurt us... as long as nobody catches us though. And if we're quick enough it'll be one missed class." Yang chuckles and wraps both of her arms around her brash ice queen teammate and her sister
"You just agreed with her because you're sisters, but Blake would be on my side." Weiss frowns, "I think..."
"Weeeeeell, she is not around, so that makes it two on one." Yang sticks out two fingers as well as her tongue, taunting her annoyed teammate
"Fine let's go." Weiss softly says, then she is immediately dragged by both of the sisters in a hurry. "She still drives me insane... to this day I still wonder why I was not picked as the leader." She says to herself. "Blake wouldn't want us skipping class you know!"
"Oh shush up already." Ruby lets go of Weiss and rushes ahead
"I swear if we get caught and my father hears about this, I'm going to make your four years here a living hell!" Weiss finds herself sprinting now, her and Yang having trouble keeping up with their rapid leader.. "My grades better not take a hit because of this either or else-!"
"Relax we're going to be quick, isn't that right sis?" Yang giggles
"YUP! If there's anything I can do, it's be fast!" Ruby speeds forward as the three team members race to the end of the courtyard, where ships transport students and professors from Beacon to the City of Vale or vice versa
Elsewhere: Central Vale, inside a dark and mysterious club
"I am never going to hear the end of this if I-! Oh who am I kidding, when I get caught skipping."
These words come from a young huntsman in training, who sits at the bar and has his back turned to everybody, under his green has emerges spiky blonde hair and he carries himself with a gentle smile, blue eyes, a piercing in his right ear, a green tunic with white sleeves and leggings, he sits contently at the bar, drinking a water and enjoying the music from the active DJ
"So kid, your name is Link is it? You're a huntsman that goes to Beacon Academy? Are you sure you're not here for anything specific? Because I've already had two of you Beacon kids in my club before and it was not a fun experience." The owner of the club speaks as he steps out of the shadows, he is a big burly man with the ironic name of Junior, and he sports a frown on his face as he approaches the boy
"Relax 'junior', I just needed to take the day to myself. I am not here for anything else so you don't have to worry about me smashing up your club. I can still see shattered glass on the ground so I'm not interested in adding on more." Link sighs
"Good." Two females speak at the same time as they too walk towards him
Link turns his head to the incoming voices, it is two women who are clearly identical twins. The immediate giveaways are that they both have the same hairstyle, green eyes and the only way to tell them apart when looking at the women's faces is the makeup above their eyes, one wears red eyeshadow while the other wears cyan. One of the women wears a white dress that has hints of cyan. Additionally, there is more cyan in the form of a layering feathery tulle that hangs over her dress and a small bow in the top center part of the dress directly on her chest. The other girl wears a black and dark red dress with a red lace layered tulle that also hangs over her dress, she also has a bow but it is on the belt around her waist and it is not centered, instead it rests on her left side
"Melanie, Miltia, stand down, I can handle the kid myself if he's any trouble."
"Are you sure about that sir?" Melanie raises an eyebrow
"Yeah last time that blonde girl was here, she-!"
"BE QUIET MILTIA!" Junior's eyes widen as his voice cracks. "We do not talk about that day okay, as far as I know you two got your asses handed to you as well."
"At least we gave her an actual fight." Miltia shrugs. "You had a bazooka and still couldn't hurt her, all you did was rip off some of her hair."
"Didn't I just say to be quiet!" Junior winces in embarrassment. "Go. I promise I have this under control."
"Fine." Melanie mumbles as she and her sister walk away but stay nearby
"This man is very overconfident, I almost want to respect it but I know it's more arrogance than confidence so my respect is not being handed out for free." Link smirks
"Girls! I'm being serious. I got this. Go stand guard at the door, I don't want another one of those odd Beacon students getting in here." Junior shrugs and waves them away
The two sisters look at each other and do not buy Junior's words at all. Based on past experience, they know he couldn't handle one Beacon student, another one who lead to the same result if a fight were to break out. What convinces them to leave is Link's smile, showing he has no intentions to fight
"What about me then?" Link raises an eyebrow. "Still think I'm up to no good or are you going to swing at me and trash your club in yet another fight."
"Yeah you're okay... for now. Don't make me regret it." Junior doesn't turn to the boy and rolls his eyes, an action not visible to Link
Back to team RWBY... or in this case team RWY who make their way to the City of Vale safely
"More robberies in Vale huh..." The fire in Ruby's was 'visible' as she approaches another robbed dust store that was ran by the same old man who shakes his head in shame
"That damn crook!" Yang stops herself and frowns, her open hands turn into fists. "I can't believe he wasn't arrested when he first confronted you... he must really be a slippery one like you said sis."
"Yang... didn't you mention that you had a run in with an associate of his?" Weiss turns her attention to Yang as the three huntresses attempt to get closer to the store but are promptly stopped by police
"You mean that loser Junior? Nah. I mean sure they talked but, Junior wasn't the real deal... I think? I dunno, I was too busy beating up his henchmen." Yang chuckles, "But then again I do know where he is. If you want, maybe you guys could get answers out of him later..." She immediately notices Ruby nod rapidly. "Or right now...?"
"Oh no. Where are we going this time?" Weiss whines, "And for what now? We did our investigating, the man Ruby encountered is still on the run from the police, we need to get back to Beacon. Unless this is somehow really important that we must go there now?"
"It's... a long story." Yang smirks, "Okay so, Ruby is talking about this nightclub I went to one night you see, I went there looking for answers to-!"
"You? At a club? Aren't you a little young to be entering clubs, who even let you in?!"
"Hey! We're the same age dumbo!" Yang shrugs and rolls her eyes, "Anyway as I was saying but now I will wrap it up since you're clearly not interested in the context. Ruby wants to go back to this club run by this really sketchy guy called Junior. Long story short I beat up all of his henchmen easily, trust me they were wimps."
"Is that all?" Weiss narrows her eyes and crosses her arms
"I mean that's it really. I beat up his guys and two girls who looked our age but seemed older who definitely attended a combat academy because they gave me more of a fight than any of the men. Eventually I wiped everyone out and finally got my chance to interrogate Junior when I punched him out of his own club until SOMEONE distracted me and allowed him to get away."
"You can't blame me!" Ruby shakes her head, "I saw your bike parked outside some weirdo club with no lighting or anyone outside yet apparently it was so loud inside and had a billion people in the club. How was I to know he would get away in that short time we talked."
"I guess you're somewhat right." Yang plays with her hair in embarrassment, "Either way, it wasn't the worst thing in the world, he had no answers to my questions."
"So then why are we entertaining the idea of going there?" Weiss is in disbelief, rolling her eyes at the two sisters bickering
"Because I saw Junior and that Torchwick guy talking so surely Junior knows something about him or some way to lead us to him and-!"
Yang is suddenly cut off by her own sister who looks determinant and has a big smile on her face as she steps forward
"To the creepy club Yang smashed to pieces!" Ruby grabs Weiss and drags her away
"Wait Ruby!" Yang laughs, "You don't even know where you're going! Only I have been to the club remember? You happened to stumble across it by sheer luck."
"Just tell me if I'm going the wrong way!"
"How are you two related again?" Weiss turns back to shout at the blonde haired huntress
"Well I guess if you want to say we're just half sisters to make your point feel free." Yang calls out but knows that neither the Schnee heiress or her sister could hear her
Central Vale: Juniors Club
"So how long will you be staying here?" Melanie loops back around to confront Link, "The business is always great but you're not exactly wanted here."
"I will leave soon don't you worry, I'm not here looking for trouble." Link keeps up his smile and does not bother to make eye contact with her, he picks up his glass and proceeds to try and down the rest of his drink
"Junior? Did you serve alcohol to a m-!"
"He happily obliged." Link chuckles and cuts off Melanie, then keeps his sight on just the glass
BOOM!
The sounds of closing doors as some guests left suddenly stops and shortly after the sound of closing doors come to a halt, they are blasted open with a big fiery punch
"What are you guys doing?!" Miltia shouts at two of Junior's henchmen who instead of confronting the person breaking in, they run away to save themselves
"She's back! B-blondie is back! And with more people too!" One of the henchman can barely say any more before the trio of team RWBY make their way deeper into the club
"I'm back!" Yang says with a big smirk on her face and innocently shrugs her shoulders
"Oh great..." Melanie shakes her head, "Your friend is back Junior."
"WHAT THE-!" Junior springs up from his seat, "Blondie. You're back... again? And with friends this time too?" The club owner nervously approaches her
"Start talking." Ruby grabs her sniper rifle-scythe 'Crescent Rose' with both hands and aims it in its rifle form right at Junior.
Junior is not even started by the loaded weapon in his weapon as he just had an encounter with a Beacon student earlier and another one not that long ago
"Great." He sighs, Four beacon students, what great club promotion... I'll expect the cops any time now to bust in here, take me away and shut down my club for serving alcohol to minors." Junior walks away and waves towards the bar as he walks there, "Why don't I serve you all drinks before you kill me, no alcohol of course."
"Four?" Ruby looks around, as if she expects Blake to materialize around them
"Yeah, that kid over there goes to Beacon as well... at least that's what he told me. But if he's a fraud then by all means let me know. I could take my anger out on somebody today and I sure as hell can't do that on any of you, that's if you're anything like blondie." Junior rambles on but also points RWBY in the direction of Link
"Hm? Who is that?" Weiss asks whilst getting closer to the stranger, "I didn't see you when each team was announced, maybe you're a second year student?"
"Um." Link shakes his head, "Not exact-!"
"I don't know. I've never seen him before either." Ruby squints her eyes to get a 'good look' at Link without having to go near him unlike her teammate just did
"Eyes over here Ruby, we're not here for boys." Yang laughs and playfully slaps her sister's shoulder
"What? Here for boys?! Why you little-!" Ruby grips her weapon tightly, but before any playful violence could ensue...
"Hey everybody." Link finishes his drink, but just like he did to Melanie and Militia, he does not acknowledge Ruby, Yang and Weiss initially as he stares at the glass with a hint of depression in his eyes, "The name is Link. And yes I do attend Beacon but if you really want to fight me so badly Junior then I would love to trash your club just like 'blondie' did." He raises his hand and waves
"I'm just kidding dammit." Junior grumbles and stomps off
"Hi! My name is Ruby! Ruby Rose to be exact. And uh... I don't recall ever seeing you before but-!" Ruby's sentence was cut off by Yang who steps front of her
"What my rude sister means is of course we've seen you around!" Yang grins and scratches the back of her head in clear confusion
"Have you really?" Link smiles but continues to not look in Ruby, Yang and Weiss' direction, "Because I really doubt it, I more or less keep to myself and I also wasn't announced like you guys were after we came back from the forest. Weiss was it?"
"Yes?" Weiss asks
"You were correct." Link smiles
"Oh, well of course I was." She crosses her arms
"And you're right too Link." Yang laughs, "I'm sorry for saying we have seen you around, I just wanted to be polite. I'm Yang Xiao Long."
"It's okay, like I said I wasn't announced as my own team. And being a one man team can have its disadvantages, being overlooked is one of them... though that may also be an advantage. Right now I'm not entirely looking to bring attention to myself or paint a target on my back before the semester even starts."
"Wait, it's you?! You're the one man team that Professor Ozpin assigned?! I had heard about it from other students and even Blake but I dismissed it all as rumors with no substance, I can't believe it." Weiss says with shock, "It's an honor to officially meet you Link. Well then you must be quite good."
"Yeah, I'm decent." Link snickers quietly but not loud enough to be heard by anybody
"No you must be like, my Uncle Qrow good. No, even he was on a team, then you must be stronger than him. Professor Ozpin would have done something to get you on another team if you were just on the level of any other huntsman or huntress." Ruby drops her scythe and sits next to Link, "SO! You're going to explain everything... now!" She claps and lightly taps her nails against the counter
"Hm?" Link looks over at Ruby, his gaze was on her face and he looks into her silver eyes, "Well... I suppose talking to you guys has already made my day a lot more lively than being here."
"You damn kids I swear..." Junior shrugs, "Wrap it up soon will ya? Legally you shouldn't even be at the bar let alone inside my club."
"I'll keep it brief but say enough to get the point across." Link nods
Flashback: Beacon Academy Auditorium Stage
"The teams we just assigned, JNPR and RWBY took down a Nevermore and a Deathstalker together... both grimm creatures took some of them to their limits and even incapacitated Lie Ren." Professor Ozpin, the headmaster of Beacon Academy mumbles, "But you young man performed even better than eight bright huntsmen and huntresses. I almost don't believe this footage is real. You took down both of the same grimm, a Nevermore along with a Deathstalker alone without any help and you never looked in danger at all. Not to mention your fighting style is quite interesting, at times you resemble an ancient warrior with your stiffness and straightforward attacks. Other times you showed off the skills of a master modern swordsman. Despite only being a first year, you look like you've done it for all your life. We are in a tough situation because you did not find yourself a partner or see anyone on your journey, yet still came back with a relic."
"May I make a request sir?" Link asked, "I would like to be alone, Professor. I do not work well with others anymore and to be completely honest with you sir, my days of being on a team are over and I would like to on my own. As I should've stayed during my time traveling over to Vale. Any time I try to pair up with someone or join a group, it always ends up ugly and it is always my own fault for the predictable dissolution of the team. I now wish to break that cycle. Trust me Professor Ozpin, you will not regret doing this, and if none of that convinces you, then allow me counter your inevitable counterpoint by saying this. Who are you going pair me up with? There is nobody else since I was a very late enrollment."
"That is a good point." Ozpin smirks but hides it as he takes a sip out of his mug, "I normally do not allow this and never have in the entire history of my time running Beacon, but you were a late entry. We are all out of new recruits to form a new team, just like you said earlier, so if this is what you want..." Ozpin looks down at a worn down Link who is a big mixture of talent, tragedy and determination, "I have seen you in action."
The headmaster of Beacon drinks more coffee out of his mug, and thinks back to the footage Glynda was showing him earlier as the students made their way back to the academy, carefully dissecting and picking apart Link's abilities in his head as he took on the two creatures of Grimm while going untouched for the most part.
"Very well then. I will grant your request."
"Really? Awesome." Link nods as he rises up to his feet, he smiles at Professor Ozpin before then turning his back and looking at the stage, "Do you want me to go up there?"
"No, that will not necessary, students will eventually find out on their own and so will all of your professors when I tell them in due time. Many may not have nice things to say so it is best to avoid any potential conflict now when today is supposed to be a day of celebrating."
"Fair enough." Link turns back to face the headmaster
"Now you do know we will expect more out of you..." Ozpin speaks again, "Even the most formidable team in Beacon history Team STRQ was a four person squad. Consider it a privilege and pressure at the same time."
"Pressure? That sounds like a regular day for me." Link nods, "People expect my best to not be good enough but when it comes down to fighting and surviving, I leave them with something to remember because no matter what happens in my life I will never go down easily."
"I see." Ozpin examines Link again by looking at him from head to toe before walking towards Glynda, "We have another talented and potentially very special student, though this one who is very... let's say unique. However I can say I made the right choice by letting him come here."
Link stands near the stage, watching as a group of four girls who's team had just been formed, RWBY, with the leader being a young girl with black and red hair, a red hood, she wears a black dress consisting of a long sleeved blouse with a high collar and red trim. That along with mystical silver eyes and a scythe that was strapped to her belt hanging behind her back. "She looks a bit young to be here, but then again I'm below the usual age of first years, I was 1 year short as well so who am I to question her."
"I see." Glynda nods, "Very well then, this is your choice and I respect your decision as crazy as it might seem. You may announce this whenever you want but please keep it discreet, the last thing anyone needs is accusations of favoritism."
"Yes I gave it a lot of consideration and initially told myself and the young man I would not announce it at all." Ozpin softly whispers
"But the students deserve to know about a one person te-!"
"Right. That is why I agree with what you said, I will announce it anonymously and let the students guess and speculate amongst themselves." Ozpin nods and walks past Link, steps onto the stage, and prepares to speak into the microphone once again to make one last announcement
"Now I shall see what Beacon has in store for me... I hope it does not get any worse than what I've already had to endure before I happened to find Vale and Beacon." Link grins and watches team RWBY leave the stage while Ozpin makes the announcement of the one man team... while excluding his name, leaving students wondering who could possible be so special to be assigned their own team at this prestigious combat academy known for always assigning four person teams
End of Flashback
"The story has to be cut short! If we don't head back NOW we will be caught!" Weiss exclaims
"But I was basically done, there's nothing to cut off." Link chuckles
"Oh... ANYWAY!" Weiss grabs Ruby by her hood, drags her away from Link with all her force, and struggles mightily in her attempt to get her leader out of the club. "Yang! Aren't you going to help me?!"
"I would but this is much more fun to watch." Yang hides her mouth with her hands to cover up the big smirk on her face
"Ugh! I hope your parents aren't this immature if I were to meet them one day." Weiss shrugs
The struggling duo of Weiss and Ruby keep fighting each other until Weiss just barely wins and they both exit the mysterious club, completely forgetting about the giant scythe that still lays on the ground when Ruby threatened to shoot Junior earlier in the conversation
"See ya around Junior." Yang waves
"HUH? WHAT DO YOU MEAN SEE YA AROUND? More like see you never blondie..." Junior hesitates to wave back
"What was that?" Yang frowns
"See you around... sir." Junior nods with embarrassment as Yang nods back with a cocky smile on her face before running off to catch up with her teammates
"W-wait-! WEISS NO!" Ruby calls out as she points back to the bar but the irritated Weiss does not stop pulling
"Hm?" Link raises an eyebrow as to why Ruby was pointing in his general direction. The boy then looks down and sees the weapon still in its semi-automatic rifle form on the floor and thinks to himself momentarily. "How do they possibly forget something as big and flashy as this, all three of them somehow forgot about it."
"If you attend the same school then surely you'll see each other again soon. So why was she that desperate to hear your story now at this instance?" Junior asks as he picks up the empty glass that was once in Link's hand
"No, it wasn't my story she was desperate to hear as I was already done with it. It was probably because of this." Link reaches down, and grabs Ruby's prized possession from the floor, "She left her weapon here what bad awareness by her, I mean I guess she got dragged away so it's not really her fault... you got my hopes up Junior, making me think someone actually wants to listen to me." Link chuckles as he places Crescent Rose on the seat next to him
"Listen kid don't act casual with me, I let you in because you took down my guards and frankly the last thing I want is another fight, at least until my club is back at one hundred percent. We aren't friends. You got your drink, now get out of here."
"Well seeing how that blonde girl is able to make you call her 'sir' and clearly it happened more than once... I'd say you did not have a great time." Link smirks, "I didn't come here for constant fights okay, your guards immediately attacked me so I defended myself. I would advise that you don't attack and just leave me be, I will go soon."
"Grr, fine but make it VERY soon I'm tired of seeing Beacon brats coming in and out like this is some hangout spot." Junior walks away
"And we will hold onto that weapon." Melanie holds her hands out, "I'll put it in the lost section, we have no way of knowing you'll actually give it back to her so..."
"I can see why it doesn't have the 'found' portion in the lost and found name. I appreciate your sudden kindness, but I will just return it to her." Link grabs onto the scythe with a tight grip
"Do we need to take it from you?" Miltia stands side by side her sister and they both stare at the huntsman
"No we really don't. I'm trying to be happy and enjoy my day. Maybe coming here was a mistake but I'm going to make the most of it and I would appreciate not having to fight anybody else today." Link showing a few signs of anger gets up from his seat and slowly wants towards the two girls
The two sisters stand in the same spot and do not move an inch, every step this mysterious boy takes towards them feels slower and more tense with each passing second. Their earlier smugness, confidence, and rudeness is nowhere to be seen as they feel a dangerous energy coming from the beacon one person team, something that was not there when he first entered the club
"Goodbye ladies. It was a pleasure to meet you." He walks past them both but not in a hurry as he takes his time to leave the club and make the journey back to Beacon
"What was that?" Junior frowns
"I don't know..." Melanie shakes her head, "It's like I was stuck in place."
"Me too." Miltia sighs, "At least they're gone, we can agree that's a positive right?"
"Right." Junior nods and lets out a quiet sigh of relief
Days Later: Beacon Academy, The Cafeteria
"It's been two days, how have I not found her?" Link shakes his head and continues to walk around the school before he decides to go to the cafeteria seeing as it is that time of the time where every student gets to eat. "Aw man..." His eyes widen when he sees the entire place is packed
But as luck has it he does notice a table that is not full. Even from a long distance the red highlighted hair of Ruby is recognizable, the same could be said with Weiss' bright white hair and Yang's sun bright blonde hair
"Thank goodness my eyes work, otherwise I would've been here all day." The one man team smiles and calmly walks towards the table, he notices the fourth member of team RWBY sitting in between Yang and Weiss, she is not interacting with anybody but is sketching in a book. Across from them is Team JNPR, a team of four who are all laughing, some more animated than others
"Okay, here goes nothing..." Link sighs and tenses up as he gets closer to the table, his heart begins to beat fast and experiences shortness of breath but as he feels the warmness and positivity from every student at the table he approaches, the boy calms down significantly
"No Ruby!" Weiss demands. "I don't ever want to go back to that creepy club full of criminals ever again. Ask Yang if she can go with you. I'm sure she won't pass up the opportunity to make a third visit."
"But I left my baby at that club. Oh who am I kidding, they must have locked eyes on it, stolen it and then sold it already... The fiends!" Ruby began to cry out. "And besides we should all go together as a team that's the whole we went yesterday."
"Not exactly." The fourth member, Blake speaks up, "You went there to investigate a criminal you encountered on the same day you got accepted into Beacon by Professor Ozpin himself and somewhere along the lines you lost track of why you even went to that club by talking to someone and then you left without even doing what you wanted to do."
"W-well!" Ruby giggles. "That is true but it's Weiss' fault we had just gotten there and didn't even get to ask questions before she dragged me out because we were supposedly going to miss our next class."
"I had every right to get us out of there as soon as possible, it wasn't safe! Besides, it's not the end of the world, we can get you another weapon Ruby ." Weiss frowns. "You shouldn't let that oversized contraption define who you are as a huntress."
"How could you say that?!" Ruby points her index finger right at Weiss, practically touching her forehead. "BESIDES! We didn't even miss a class, in fact we got back so fast we were early to class!"
"Ahem."
All commotion between Ruby and Weiss ceases as eight heads turn to face the person in front of their table who awkwardly clears his throat to catch their attention
"Ummm, hello!" Link hesitates to any any more to the table at first, but as soon as Ruby's eyes notice him, there was no turning back
Ruby instantly gasps as she sees her prized possession Crescent Rose in Link's hands. However, instead of simply taking her weapon back, she jumps in excitement, runs to Link and then locks her arms around his
"You are a lifesaver! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Ruby shouts so loudly everyone in the cafeteria can hear her, "You had no idea the agony I went though, and my own teammates acted like it wasn't a big deal!"
"Aw come on sis you know I would've gone back to the club with you after classes." Yang chomps down on a grape and gives her sister a thumbs up
"No problem, it was my pleasure to bring it back to you." Link awkwardly blinks as he can feel the glares and stares from five other people.
The fourth member who is a girl in all black sitting besides Yang glares at Link and what follows is team JNPR on other side of the table also giving him suspicious looks due to nobody being acquainted with him yet aside from three fourths of RWBY
"Oh right! Guyyyyyyys I was to introduce you to the almighty Link. As you know there's a one man team that got announced when we all got paired up right. This is him. Ooooh..." Yang implies by making dramatic sounds and gestures.
"Oh my, so he is the one person team?" A girl with red hair, green eyes, and the beacon school uniform with leggings going up to her thighs stands from her seat and walks over toward Link, waiting until Ruby was finally pulled away from Link with help from Yang, "I am Pyrrha Nikos, it is a pleasure to meet you." She smiles and extends her hand
"It is a pleasure to meet you too Pyrrha, I have heard so much about you. I haven't seen you in action but I can tell by the way you carry yourself that you are special. You are a strong and capable warrior. You are supposed to be the number one rookie coming into Beacon right?" Link nods and extends his hand to take hers, gently shaking it, "Or at least that's what I heard, no disrespect when saying the word rookie."
"None taken. Although I'm not sure I can have that title anymore if you're on a team by yourself." Pyrrha laughs, it was like a faint giggle but it came out so majestically
Nevertheless it surprises her entire team, especially their blonde haired member who clearly assumed she would always be serious
"And do not be mistaken, I look forward to seeing you in action. Maybe we could have a sparring match one of these days to test our skills, I would be honored if you said yes." Pyrrha smiles and looks right into Link's eyes, for a brief second she raises an eyebrow as Link's eyes are not completely full of life, they have hints of a troubled past
"The honor is all mine truly." Link nods his head
The red haired huntress then proceeds to do the most formal and polite thing. She breaks the handshake Takes a step to the side and introduces the rest of her team, first it was Nora Valkyrie, followed by Lie Ren and lastly their leader Jaune Arc. All of whom get up and individually walk over to shake Link's hands and introduce themselves
"It's a pleasure to meet you all." Link happy says
"Annnnnnnnnd." Ruby runs over to Blake, underhooks her arms from behind and rapidly brings her in front of Link, "This is Blake Belladonna, she's really nice and cool but she doesn't talk a lot so this is how we get her to say hello."
"Ruby!" Blake scowls
"Sorry! But go on guys, introduce yourselves." She cheers
"Nice to meet you, Blake." Link blushes and awkwardly extends his hand as their faces are inches apart
"Likewise, nice to meet you." Blake blushes as well, smiles back and shakes his hand
"H-hey!" Ruby looks in disbelief, "We struggle to get you to smile, for every fifteen to twenty-five attempts we get one Blake smile, how come he gets one in his first time talking to you?"
"I don't know, maybe don't try as hard and just do what he did." Blake almost laughs in Ruby's expense
"Blake huh... The name rings a bell" Link thinks for a moment but just as he is about to shrug it off something clicks in his head "No way, I think this was the girl with Adam a-! No... Never mind. Now is not the time to be recapping those days. This is supposed to be a new place for me to settle in and make my new home, it has to work this time."
After some time, Blake sits back down, leaving Ruby standing next to Link by herself. Soon enough, the small talk ends between the teams of RWBY and JNPR with Link who they have met for the first time and it goes quiet very quickly. Nobody knows what to do or say until the one man team breaks the tension
"It was very nice to meet you all, maybe we can hang out again someday. I should get going and leave you all to get back to eating and talking, sorry if I disrupted anything important." Link waves once more and then turns his back to leave
"Nooooo, why are you leaving so soon?!" Ruby yanks Link by his arm and forces him to turn back around
"W-whoa!" Link feels a tug and within seconds he's forced to sit down next to Ruby who scoots over and forcefully makes her team move aside, "Um, I suppose it looks like I am staying." Link grins and tries to look relaxed but the awkwardness is too obvious to hide
Fortunately for the boy who struggles to find words to say and who to begin talking to, he was saved as Jaune starts a whole new conversation with Ruby as he and the rest of team JNPR want to know all of the details of the team's recent journey to Central Vale
"Thanks Jaune, you saved me from this awkwardness. Now I can just sit here and wait until we all go our separate ways." Link says to himself and happily looks around, his awareness is sharp however because he instantly realizes that Yang is staring right at him, "Does she have a problem with me? I certainly hope not."
"Does she...? No, there's no way my sister would ever be into a boy, at least right now. Especially this early into our first year at Beacon, it's been her dream to come here in two years time. Now that she's been moved up early, I figured she wouldn't let anything or anybody distract her in the slightest." Yang looks over at Ruby and smiles at her, "Although when it comes to interactions with a boy, Ruby struggles to show even the slightest bit of friendliness and intimacy, so you've already surprised me a lot sis... keep it up hehe."
