Planning

I thought moving to a new city on my own was stressful. Planning to have a baby was stressful. Having the baby itself was stressful. But planning a wedding? A whole other level of stress.

I had been up for four hours. It was now nine in the morning. My crazy sister decided to come back in town to help me get started on my wedding planning. I'm calling her crazy because she woke me up at five in the morning. Shawn had an early morning shift at the hospital.
He left me alone with my crazy sister. She was like the Monica Geller to my Rachel Green. But then again maybe it was good to have her here. She's the only one who's actually had a wedding and has been through all of this before.
"So the park for the wedding? Maybe we could close the whole park for it? Is that possible?" Serenity asked without allowing me to answer either of them.
"I don't know where we want it. We haven't exactly talked about it yet. The park sounds nice though, it's not going to be a very big wedding." I told her as I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Well we can go look at small venues to have the ceremony at." She said, I'm sure she was talking to me but it didn't seem like she was.
Serenity's eyes never left her laptop screen as she typed away. My stomach growled with hunger, I hadn't ate yet. I looked at the time and realized I should wake up Melody as well. I stood up and Serenity still didn't look up at me.
I took that opportunity to grab a banana from my fruit bowl. I then took it upstairs and went into Melody's nursery. I woke her up gently and changed her before feeding her. I sat on the rocking chair eating my banana as I nursed Melody. When I finished the banana I put it in the trash and rocked myself back and forth in the rocking chair.
My phone then began to ring, I grabbed it from my back pocket. I seen who it was and answered.
"Hey you, hows your morning going?" Shawn asked when I answered.
I sighed, "I'm tired, hungry, and Serenity is making me more stressed than I already was."
"Oh no, why's that?" He asked.
"Because she's asking me things I'm not even sure I know. Like where do we want to get married? What kind of cake do we want? How many people are we inviting?" I tell him sounding completely annoyed.
Shawn laughed, "Sorry she's being an extreme planner on you. I'd be there to help but it's really busy here." He sighed sounding upset.
"Don't worry about me, she's my sister, I'll survive. You need to be there to help those who truly need it." I tell him not wanting him to feel bad for working. From doing what he loves, id never put him in a position that he had to choose his job or me.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" He asked and I could practically see the smile on his face.
It made me smile, "Yes but doesn't mean I don't like hearing it anyways."
"I have to go, be patient with her. I'll be home late as well, so if I'm not home by 9 give Melody lots of kisses for me. Love you." Shawn told me sounding like he was moving.
"Will do, love you. Bye." I told him before hanging up.
I looked down at Melody and she stopped feeding. I fixed my shirt and picked Melody up so she sat up on my lap.
"Guess it's just you and me fending off your crazy aunt huh?" I asked her.
Melody let out a little noise, "Yup exactly." I said with a laugh.
I kissed her nose before picking her up to carry her. I then walked out of the nursery and back downstairs.
"Okay now you dress!" Serenity said excitedly when she seen me.
Oh great.

I covered my sister with a throw blanket. It was ten at night and she finally crashed. I gave a silent thank you to god when I seen her deep in sleep. She meant well but she never let me breathe or have time to think. It was all wedding. From flowers to songs, cake, dresses, venue, shoes, and invitations.
I put Melody to bed at nine so I didn't have to worry about her still being up. I cleaned up the house but as I cleaned the coffee table I came across Serenity's notes. I seen a paper that had a bunch of numbers on it. I looked at all the math and seeing the estimate of how much this wedding could cost made me lightheaded.
I don't have this kind of money. I mean my family does, my grandmother left me money. But I was going to save half for maybe a new house and the other half for Melody's college fund. And to know all of this, even as a small wedding, was a ton. Made me start to stress even more than I already was all day.
I sat down on the couch and looked at all of Serenity's notes. I was so lost in my stress and overwhelming thoughts I didn't realize what time it was. Soon the door opened and Shawn walked in as quietly as he could. I glanced at him before looking back at the paper in my hands.
"Hey babe, what are you doing up?" Shawn asked in a whisper.
I shook my head, "Do you realize how expensive weddings are? Even if we have a small wedding it's still a lot." I whispered.
Shawn took off his jacket and hung it up. He walked over towards me and he sat down next to me. Shawn took the paper from my hands and I let him. My knee was bouncing up and down in anxiousness. I spun the ring on my finger, I find myself fidgety when I'm stressed and nervous.
"Peyton lets just go to bed. It's one in the morning and you need sleep. We will talk about this tomorrow." Shawn whispered as he set the paper down and took my hand.
He stilled my hands from turning the ring. Shawn cupped the side of my face with his free hand. He got me to look at him and his expression was soft but filled with concern.
"Come to bed with me okay?" Shawn asked.
I nodded, "Okay."
He then took my hands in his as he led me up the stairs and to our bedroom. We walked to the bed and we both got under the covers. Shawn pulled me to him so I was in his arms. He kissed the top of my head as he rubbed my arm in a comforting way.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled.
"Why are you sorry?" Shawn asked confused.
"For stressing. It's just-"
Shawn cut me off, "Shh you have no reason to be sorry. Peyton we will figure things out, I'll marry you anywhere. We can have In N Out for our dinner if you wanted. I don't care what we do as long as you get my last name. As long as we are each other's, that's all that matters. Don't stress." He said in a comforting tone.
I laughed, "I should have known you'd be the one to ease my stress. You always know the right thing to say."
"I'm glad I can be the one to ease your stress. I love you. Now let's get some rest." Shawn whispered.
"Goodnight." I yawned.
"Goodnight Love." He told me before kissing my forehead.
My eyes grew heavy fast due to the emotional drainage of stress. Soon sleep over came me and for the first time all day I wasn't stressing.

Stress is a very toxic and dangerous effect on your body. I hated to stress over every little thing. You might have seen that a lot by now, I'm always stressing. Though this time, I had someone to take it all away.
