You know, i am something of a scientist myself.
There is a condition called Victor Deprivation, and it occurs when you don't get your daily dose of Victor's adorableness, and the symptoms are as follows:
depression.
that's it. So, anyway, this condition can be cured by spending time with Victor, and thinking about him works too.
Ugh fuck, I'm so in love, i disgust myself.
My assignment to write an essay about a 'made up disease' was not going very well, so i did the rational thing: give up, and procrastinate.
I couldn't stop thinking about him, it was getting irritating, i was about to lose it.
I get to see Victor today.
That was all i could think about the entirety of the day, and it distracted me so much i could hardly pay attention in general, let alone in class.
Break rolled around quickly, so i squeezed my way through the halls to the cafeteria.
Then of course, my clumsy headass would bump into someone, and that someone just had to he someone who hates me.
"Uh, h-hi Malcolm."
fuck, shouldn't have opened my mouth.
So for some reason, Malcolm wouldn't give me the time of the day, and he was pissed as hell. He glared daggers at me, and no teachers were around to save me this time.
"Do you know where she is?"
"Who?"
he blushed and looked away. I had to blink a few times to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.
"Ruth, is that her name?"
something in my brain clicked, and the following information coursed through me, making me go hyper all of a sudden.
".....ooooooHHHHHHH-"
he shoved me into the locker and covered my mouth.
"N-No, shut up."
oMG Did hE jUsT staMmEr???
I smirked stupidly at him, the obvious blush heating up his face, and pushed away his hand.
"I can use this against you."
"Tsk, I-I know."
"Nice. I won't tell anyone so don't worry ok? Now fuck off, I want to eat."
He did as i told, and holy shit.
Malcolm liked Ruth.
Too bad Ruth is taken, damn.
Then the bell rang, rudely interrupting the Ruth x Malcolm fantasy fiction playing in my head.
I headed back to class, and gave Malcolm occasional moon emoji faces. He scowled and turned away.
~
I was on my way to meet Victor after school had ended for the day, then I realized that we never actually discussed where to meet, so i texted him.
L: where are you?
Unknown: I think I'm outside your school
L: okay, ill come to you.
I wandered around near the front gate for a whilez then i found him kneeling down looking at something on the floor.
"Victor."
"Hello. I was looking at this bird."
"...It looks hurt."
I looked at the struggling bird near Victor's feet. It was chirping frantically, and it's wing looked jacked up.
Victor turned to me.
"Can we take it home?"
"Uh, no...? My mom would kill me."
"Pleease...?"
Fuck, I can't say no now. Damn you Victor, stealing my heart.
"Ugh, okay, fine. We'll...b-bring it home."
I'm stuttering. My heart is going to burst.
"..Thank you!"
Victor smiled, and for once, his smile was different.
He smiled, a kind of smile that lit up his entire face, and was as warm as the sun.
Beautiful.
I wrapped the injured bird with Victor's scarf (which is now mine), so it wouldn't freeze to death.
"Who's gonna ride the bike?"
"What's a bike?"
"...Ouh kay, I'll ride it, and you hold the bird."
I shoved the bird into his hands, and got on my bike with him following me.
"Thanks Lucas."
I felt him rest his chin on my shoulder from behind.
"I'm actually amazed that my bike could fit two people."
"You didn't tell me about this machinery."
"Dude...seriously? how old are you?"
"Physically, 17 years."
"I don't really know how old i am anymore, but think I'm probably over a century old."
"I don't really want to know anyway..."
"Strange. You're so weird."
"Yeah but that's what you like about me right?"
"Haha, shut up."
"Sure."
We were quiet the rest of the way, save for the occasional rustling of autumn leaves when ran over, and the indistinct chattering of the people around us.
"You're much warmer than I am."
"Yeah no shit, I'm alive and you're....not...? Are you alive?"
"Who knows.....but I'm here."
"Then just stay here, and don't go anywhere."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, just stay, with me."
"People tend to come and go, so I'm asking you to just 'come', and not do the 'go' part."
"What if i have to leave you?"
"...Then I wouldn't know what to do with myself."
I could sense him frown in the back, so i laughed to keep the mood lighter.
"I don't think I'd let you leave even if you had to, so you're stuck with me."
"That'd be lovely."
"Yeah."
Before we knew it, we've already reached the front my house, and to my surprise, mom was waiting at the lawn.
"Where were you?" she bombarded.
uh oh.
"I was at school."
"Why are you late?"
"I'm only five minutes late mom..."
She shouted some angry gibberish at me, and I couldn't take it.
I couldn't take it anymore.
"My boss is being a fucking dick!! At late hours i have t-"
"MOM!! Calm down! I'm here..."
Her anger boiled over, then her fist landed square on my head. I felt like I'd black out, but I didn't.
"Lucas!" I heard Victor call from behind me.
I blinked, trying to keep myself conscious, and fortunately succeeding in it.
At some point I tripped on my own legs and dropped down to the pavement leading up to the front door.
"Why did you punch me?"
She frowned as if she didn't remember what just happened, and ignored me.
"I....need to go somewhere..." she muttered under her breath.
Victor helped me up, and we watched her drive away.
~
"Lucas..."
"I-im fine," i said, "I'm used to it."
I was tending to the injured bird, carefully fixing up it's wing as best i can, and Victor tended to me and my swollen forehead.
"Don't move."
"I need to fix the bir-"
"You're more important than the bird."
After i made sure the bird was warm enough, I let Victor put some ice on my forehead to reduce the swelling.
"Does it hurt?"
"No- ah! E-Except for there."
"Okay. Sorry."
It felt somewhat peaceful, knowing that only Victor, birdie, and me were the only ones in the house, and that someone was legitimately caring for me. That felt so nice, i wished i could have that all the time.
"Uh, thanks...f-for you know, helping and everything."
He doesn't say anything, but just put his head on my shoulder.
"What should we name the bird?"
"....."
"Blue."
"Blue? Really?"
"Yes. because it's blue."
"Wow, how creative." i remarked playfully, earning a light nudge from Victor.
Blue chirped weakly, and probably fell asleep under the warm lamp.
"...Does your mother always treat you like this?"
"...Er...sort of? She ignores me most of the time, she doesn't usually hit me that often..."
"Why does she do that? Isn't she supposed to love you?"
"Beats me." I chuckled, and come to think of it, i really had always wanted to know.
mom, why do you act like you hate me?
I knew it was her drinking problem, and dad's death, but she still had me at least.
I never knew why she didn't see it like that.
"How did you parents treat you? Did they love you?"
"I don't....i don't know my parents. I've never seen them before."
"I grew up alone."
"Ah....i guess that sucked didn't it?"
Way to go Lucas, choosing an awkward topic to discuss with the poor dude.
After some idle conversations exchanged between us, something changed.
Was my house... always this dark...?
Victor was next to me. But he stopped talking.
It was getting darker, like the sun was being blocked out, like i was slowly going blind.

but alas, the raven haired monster realized that they just couldn't be together forever.
for love, he thought.
as if he isn't slowly dragging the blonde haired boy into the deepest darkness of his heart.
the monster continues to haunt the both of them and neither of them know what to do.
