It was only a normal day, so far. I hummed as I paced around the small bakery kitchen, decorating a few sugar cookies with frosting and sprinkles before taking the tray out to the front and setting them on display.
It's been a productive day, I've made quite a lot of sales, and even made a new drink on accident. I'll have to get that out on the menu sometime soon.
My stomach growls, and I grab an extra cookie I had made, taking a bite of it. Just as I swallow, the bell above the door chimes. I look up, ready to greet the new customer.
I stop myself before any words come out, raising an eyebrow. They were dressed entirely in an astronaut uniform, but seemed to easily maneuver around in it.
Just as I go to greet them, they salute to me, stopping right in front of the counter.
"Greetings, female. I am the Moon Champion. I have come to your planet in need of sustenance, the Moon People have requested for Earth foods. You contain the Earth foods?" He taps on the glass casing protecting the cookies and tarts. What a weirdo.
Nonetheless, I smile and nod. Maybe if I act kinder, he will buy more. "Pick whatever you would like and I'll bag them up for you! We also have donuts and brownies over here." I point to the case containing said foods.
He walks over to stand between the two casings, muttering to himself, not so quietly. He finally starts to point out to the wanted treats, and in turn, I grab them and place them in a little brown bag. He walks back over to the counter.
"That will be $12.43, please." I ask, smiling as I look from the register to the astronaut. He fumbles around for a bit, pulling out a pile of odd coins. Never in my life had I seen anything like them.
"Sir, you cannot pay with those. Do you happen to have any America money?" I ask. He tilts his head up, so I assume him to be looking at me. "I do not contain any 'American Money,' I only have Moon Tokens."
I sigh, these treats just went to waste. I place the bag on the back counter, I'll take it home and eat them later.
"Sorry, you can't have the treats. Have a good day, sir." I force a smile, trying to make it obvious. He grumbles silently as he stuffs the 'Moon Tokens' back into his pocket in which they came.
"May you aid me on defeating the Moon Monsters?" I blink. Why the hell is he suddenly asking this now? I shake my head clear of the thought.
"You mean on the moon? I was under the assumption there were no beings on the moon. NASA surely would have reported this to the public. Unless of course, they stole the aliens and are keeping them in Area 51. Yet another reason to raid it. Moon aliens."
I laugh, looking back up at the astronaut. "How would I even survive? It's not like I have a spacesuit like you, and I doubt you would have another one. My size, either. You're huge compared to me!" I laugh again and the ludicrous thought.
He nods in agreement, before turning and stalking towards the large glass window. I wince, hurriedly chasing after him.
"Don't go crashing through my window. Use the door." I point at the door, going so far so to go and hold it open for him.
He shuffles towards the door, ducking to leave. I sigh and close the door, locking it up. I flip the sign to 'Closed' despite the early hour.
I've had enough strange encounters today.
