Day 2
As soon as I stepped out of the bathroom, wrapping the towel around my body, a delicious smell hit my nostrils. It made me forget about how unrested I really was. Vansh must have ordered something.
I quickly wore some long-sleeved t-shirt and jeans and hurried out of the room. I did not want to wear jeans all day long but Vansh and I were not really that comfortable. Halfway through the passage, I remembered that I forgot to wear the mangalsutra.
I removed it when I went to take a bath. It was kept on the dressing table in front of the mirror among the bangles. I wore it, ignoring the bangles, not wanting to wear them. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and cringed internally.
The bags under my eyes were growing every damn day. The make-up on the important wedding days did a pretty good job in hiding all the scars but I no longer wanted to be hidden under makeup.
Who was I even making up for? I did not apply makeup before marriage and will not do it now, after marriage. I do not want anything to change.
I shook my head to clear all the negative things and marched towards the kitchen. The smell got stronger and delicious with every step.
As I reached the door to the kitchen, I saw Vansh neatly bathed and wearing his favourite jeans with a black t-shirt. The messed up hair looked good on him as always.
He raised his head and smiled at me, making it difficult for me to breathe. I just ogled the guy, who was my husband now. I had never seen him as anything more than friends but as things occurred, I was starting to have weird thoughts.
"Good Morning" he chirped, breaking me from my thoughts.
"Good Morning" I replied, walking towards the table and sitting on the chair opposite him. He passed a plate filled with pancakes and a cup of chai. I took the bite of the pancakes and groaned in pleasure.
"This is art. I could literally live with the person who made this"
"Good thing, you are going to be with me for seven lives," he said jokingly. My jaw hit the floor and my eyes widened. I looked at the plate and then I looked at him.
"YOU MADE THIS!?"
"Who else would?" he said in a 'duh' tone making me feel stupid. Absolutely stupid. But I never knew he could cook. Most of the men can't because no one teaches them.
"You mean you can cook"
"Yes," he laughed.
"I'm Impressed. These are just so amazing. I did not know you could cook" I really did not mean to say that I was impressed but Vansh's face lit up, making it hard for me to regret. Instead, I smiled at him.
"Thank you"
***
"Let's sit on the balcony to finish the chai" he suggested and got up without giving me time to argue or say anything. I shook my head and followed him to the balcony.
Both of us sat on the little swing, facing the sea. I pulled up my legs on the swing while Vansh slightly rocked the swing with his legs.
"How do you feel?" he asked looking at the sea. I already knew what he was talking about.
"A lot of things" He hummed.
"What about you? How are you feeling?" I asked him.
He turned his head towards me and made eye contact. He was very close. I took a moment to appreciate how good he looked. Bright brown eyes, Light brown hair, chiseled face, defined Jawline, high cheekbones. and fuller lips.
He smiled and that movement brought me back to reality.
"I don't know what to feel. Everything happened so fast that I did not get any time to think. So I don't know how to answer that question if that makes sense?" he bobbed his head to one side and looked ahead at the sea.
"It does," I said but it barely came as a whisper.
***
I moved my neck from side to side, cracking it. I picked up my buzzing phone and saw a lot of messages. I made a mental note to reply to all of them before I sleep. My stomach growled asking for attention and food.
I looked at the clock, it was already half-past eight. I did not eat anything after lunch.
Lunch was pretty okay. I mean we talked about different things and I got to know so much about him. In school, he was always teased for getting good marks and how he never really had a serious kinda girlfriend. I wonder why. I mean he's intelligent, gorgeous, and all.
Girls in his school and college would be blind.
My stomach growled again, that is when I decided It was time to leave. I decided to go and eat but the room was a mess. I cannot stand the mess. I decided to clean my room and keep all the important documents safely so that I don't lose them and get sued for anything.
I walked to Vansh's room and knocked at the door. After hearing a faint 'come in' I opened the door and leaned against the door frame. Before I could say anything my stomach growled making me embarrassed.
Vansh looked up from his laptop towards me and laughed loudly.
"I got it, I will just get changed and then we can leave," he said and I closed the door immediately, collecting the remaining bits of self-respect I had.
"Ahaana" Vansh called when I was about to open the door to my room. I turned my head towards him questioningly.
"Can you please check if the gas in the kitchen is closed?"
"Sure, I will just change and then check"
"Change? Why? You look beautiful" the sudden compliment made my skin heat up. This was not the first time that he was complimenting me but those were different times. This time a husband was complimenting his wife.
Our relationship changed.
"O-Okay, I will just check" I squeaked out and dashed towards the kitchen. I rested my hands on the cold marble kitchen platform to steady my breaths. I shut my eyes close and focused on not thinking hard about it and making it awkward or weird between us.
I just checked the gas and rushed outside.
***
"Are you okay?" Vansh asked me for the millionth time and I replied and 'okay'.
Halfway through our smooth going dinner in a really good place with really good food, three creepy men walked in and sat beside our table. They started staring at me which made me really uncomfortable.
"I'm going to the washroom. I'll be back soon" he said and left me alone. I wanted to grab his hand and make him sit with me for as long as the guys were there.
A man from that table got up and sat in front of Vansh's place.
"How much for a night?huh?" he asked, cockyly and the rest of the guys started laughing, making me squirm in my seat.
"What?" I muttered and tried to put up a strong front.
"Come on. You'll have fun" he said and wriggled his eyebrows, making every cell of my body itch with disgust. Before I could say or do anything, someone punched that man and he fell down with a chair.
"If you even look at my wife once again. I WILL KILL YOU" a voice whom I recognised to be of Vansh boomed angrily. I quickly went and hid behind him, clutching his arm with my hands.
That man stood up, cracking a smile, clearly having absolutely no effect. Vansh took my hand and made me stand in front of the man.
"Hit him," he said in my ear. I looked at him with wide eyes and my mouth opened wide. He held my arm and made me stand in front of him.
"Hit him" he repeated. "He hurt you. You are strong. You should fight. Every female should fight" He's correct. I tore my eyes from him, looked at the man, and then punched him hard. He fell again and I faced Vansh again.
"Let's go Vansh" I whispered. He looked at me, his eyes softened and he nodded. We paid the bill at the counter where the Manager was continuously apologizing for everything. I was least bothered or affected by his apologies.
Both of us went near the car we hired for us to move to the city. I stood there and took deep breaths to digest what happened.
"Ahaana..." he called.
"You cook better food," I said turning around and plastering a fake smile on my face and trying my best to compose myself.
He did not say anything but closed the distance between us with one long stride and hugged me keeping his chin on my head. He hugged me very tightly, pulling me to his body.
I closed my eyes, buried my face in his chest, inhaling his scent, and encircled my arms on his neck, holding him close to me. He rubbed my back with his right hand. I felt him press a kiss on top of my head, trying to soothe me.
It felt so..so right and safe.
