SONG : MAKE HIM WAIT - ABBY ANDERSON
•••|||•••
It took Jenny almost a full minute to register her brother's words and even then she was left stumped.
What gave him the idea that there is something between Daemon and I? Jenny wondered as she furrowed her brows together in confusion at her twin. How long has he known? Why is Daemon still walking around perfectly okay, black-eye free?
Jesse sighed impatiently when Jenny continued to stare at him in silence. He arched a brow at his sister before asking, "So who is it? Daemon or Glenn?"
Jenny made a quick decision before she let out a mocking laugh, "What? You think Daemon and I are what?" She laughed again for good measure, knowing that if she was to fool her twin, she would have to put on a good show. "Dating? Gosh, what gave you that idea?"
However, when she looked at Jesse, her laughter quickly died.
He wasn't buying it.
Not a single bit.
Jesse continued to stare at her in boredom, his brows still arched as if they were playfully mocking her with a 'Seriously' expression.
"You must think I'm stupid if you think I wouldn't notice how awkward the both of you have been recently."
Jenny bit her lower lip nervously.
Jesse took that as a sign to continue. He rolled his eyes as he crossed his arms across his chest. "Just the mention of the other person's name and the both of you act like nervous teens having their first crush."
Jenny sighed, knowing that even though she concocted the most elaborate scheme in the universe, that she wouldn't trick Jesse. He knew her so well.
Plus, Jenny had expected him to be the first person to guess something was going on between Daemon and her. She just didn't expect it to be so fast.
"How long have you known?" she asked after clearing her throat. Her voice was surprisingly not as nervous or intimidated as she expected. Maybe the fact that Jesse wasn't particularly coming at her angrily helped.
He shrugged as he sighed. "I don't really know. Maybe it was back when he disappeared without any explanation at the cinema or it was the way you just seemed jumpy and on edge whenever his name was mentioned."
"But that doesn't confirm anything."
"Well," he snickered under his breath, his eyes glinting with a knowing smile, "what really confirmed it was the fact that I caught you two locked in the bathroom together on Friday."
Jenny's eyes widened as she felt her heart stop. "You WHAT?!"
"SHHH!" Jesse shushed her before his eyes darted towards the staircase leading upstairs to everyone's rooms. "If you don't want everyone to know about your little secret, I suggest you keep your voice down."
Jenny nodded begrudgingly, bringing her voice down as she repeated, "You what?"
Jesse smirked, "You really think I didn't know you and Daemon were in the bathroom together?"
Jenny nodded feeling her face burn up at the revelation that her brother had known all along about Daemon and her, especially about them being locked together in the bathroom. To make matters worse, he thought they were dating, and one can only guess what he thought they were doing in there together.
"I'm not a fool, Jenny," he continued. "It took Daemon to long to answer me and for goodness sake, the guy can't lie to save his life. When he told me he had asked you, I went to your room to check and ho and behold, you weren't there. I saw you slipping out of the bathroom before Daemon on my way back."
Jenny's face reddened even more. "It's not what you think," she began, even though her voice was shaking.
"What am I thinking then?"
Jenny inhaled a deep breath before exhaling, trying to calm herself. "Daemon and I are not dating," she finally said.
Jesse furrowed his brows together. "You are NOT DATING?!" What began as confusion slowly morphed into anger, his voice getting louder with each word.
"Shh!" This time Jenny was the one that shushed him.
"Don't tell me to shush," he began, his eyes narrowed in fury. "Are you two dating or is Daemon just using you?"
Jenny sighed. "No," she replied in answer to his first question. When he narrowed his eyes even further, she added, "And No!"
Jesse watched her suspiciously. "Then what are you?"
"We're nothing. There was just some..." Jenny paused, trying to think up the appropriate word, "misunderstanding that we needed to sort out and now we're just... friends." Even to her own ears, she could hear the lie.
Despite the way he watched her with distrust, Jesse seemed to accept her words, because the anger faded from his face. "So you and the student council president?"
Jenny shook her head, "No. He's just a friend."
"Just a friend friend or more than a friend material?"
Jenny rolled her eyes at her brother's sudden interest in her love life. Choosing to ignore her twin's question, she fired back with her own, "Have you started getting acceptance letters?"
Jesse furrowed his brows together in confusion at the sudden change in topic. "What?"
Jenny sighed as she repeated herself. "Did you get any acceptance letters yet?"
"Yeah, why?" he frowned at her.
"Then," Jenny smacked the back of his head, eliciting a scream of pain from her brother, "why the hell have you not told Santana yet?"
Jesse massaged his head as he frowned at her. "What are you-"
"She was crying her eyes out to me last week because your stupid ass made her worry over nothing."
Jesse sighed, this time worry apparent on his face. "Shit. I didn't think it through. I thought I would tell her once I got more options in. I didn't mean to worry her."
Jenny nodded. "Well, do whatever you gotta do, man. If that's all, I'm going to bed." She started to turn around, but Jesse's hand on her shoulder stopped her. "What?" she demanded.
Jesse's voice was serious when he spoke, "I don't know whatever it is you have going on with Daemon, but make sure you figure out whatever the hell it is before Santana finds out. She may not like Daemon like she used to, but he's still her first love, Jenny. I don't want things to get messy. For you. And for her."
Silence echoed as the words hung heavy in the atmosphere.
Then Jenny gave a small nod, before she left for her room, her shoulders heavier than it was minutes before.
She knew what Jesse meant. She'd known the repercussions of that night as soon as she had rushed out of the room, leaving Daemon behind.
That was the reason why she hadn't said a word about that night to Santana. That was why she tried so hard to push whatever attraction she felt for him behind and that was why she knew she shouldn't give in to it.
Whatever attraction she felt for Daemon Matthews was purely superficial and physical and she knew without a doubt that it would never last.
Her friendship wasn't worth it.
Nothing was.
The next day, Jenny rushed out if the house before she could run into Jesse.
She didn't know what to say to him, especially after the previous night's revelations.
Talking to him about it in the darkness of the night was different than talking about it in broad daylight and Jenny wanted to avoid it as long as she could.
She was already in the student council room before everyone else started arriving to do some work before school officially started. She was already on her checklist of things to do.
With the graduation coming up, everyone was all hands on deck, with plans for the trip, the graduation ball for the senior class and the junior's prom. Not to mention the finals. With just six week's left in the school year, Jenny was feeling like a doll whose limbs were being pulled from all directions.
"You got some free time?"
Jenny jumped as the voice came from beside her, surprising her out of her thoughts.
Glenn smiled back at her as he took the chair beside her. He hair his hair neatly styled as usual, and his shirt was prim and pressed as they were tucked into his jeans. "Hi."
"Hi Glenn," she smiled back at him.
"Gina asked me to ask you if you can come over after school today." Glenn smiled nervously before adding as a quick afterthought, "For the playdate."
Jenny took a moment to think over whether she had any plans after school. Santana and her were supposed to go dress shopping but Jenny nodded in reply, knowing that Santana would understand. "Sure. That should work. Just let me know your address and I'll come over once I finish everything up."
"Great!" Glenn smiled. "Thanks for doing this."
Jenny shrugged. "Your sister's lovely. It's no hassle. To be honest, I only have brothers. I wish I had a sister."
Glenn laughed. "And I wish I had brothers. Wanna trade?"
Jenny chuckled, playing along. "Sure. Let's do that."
After they quickly discussed some more plans for the ball, they left for class.
Unfortunately for Jenny, her first class was her only class with Daemon, AP Maths. And even though he might not look it, Daemon Matthews was the teacher's favourite because even though he didn't pay attention all that well, he always topped the class.
Jenny dwadled as she made her way there, dragging her feet because after yesterday's tension filled encounter, she had been avoiding Daemon Matthews.
She didn't know why she had to run away from him, especially after she had told him that there wasn't going to be anything between them. But even so, Jenny didn't want to see him.
"You're late, Ms Archer," Mr Griffin's monotonous voice echoed in the classroom as soon as she entered, drawing all eyes in the class to her.
Jenny felt her face burn up at the sudden glare of all the stares pinned on her. However, she still managed to pick out the stare that left her feeling self conscious. Daemon's.
"I'm sorry, Mr Griffin. I was finishing up a meeting," she replied, hoping that he would excuse her so she could go to her seat faster.
Mr Griffin raised an unimpressed brow at her before he nodded. "Don't let this happen again. Next time it's detention."
She nodded even though she wanted to tell him she was only five seconds late. She didn't want to stand there and argue with him further.
She felt Daemon's stare burning into her as she sat down. She knew he was three seats behind her, at his usual spot.
Jenny took a deep breath, hoping it would calm her and help her focus more on class. Instead it didn't. Her body was so keenly aware of how close yet far Daemon was.
Just as Mr Griffin left the class saying he had to go to the restroom really quick, the class was enveloped in chatter as everyone either talked about the coming ball and who was taking who, or they talked about the coming finals.
Jenny's phone vibrated in her pockets. She pulled it out and unlocked it easily before the message popped up on her screen.
Have you thought about it?
Jenny sighed in frustration, refusing to turn around and give him the satisfaction of knowing how much he was getting to her.
Instead she put her phone, face down on her desk before she focused back on the problems Mr Griffin had left them with.
Her phone vibrated again. Jenny waited one minute before her curiosity got the better of her and she read the message.
I know you're attracted to me. So why are you fighting us?
Jenny felt her heart stutter as she read the message, her eyes glued to the last word.
Another message followed soon after, before she could put the phone back down.
You look beautiful today.
As soon as she read it, Jenny shook her head, as if doing so would shake out any memory of his messages. But it didn't.
Thankfully Mr Griffin returned before Daemon could continue to send anymore messages.
As soon as class ended, Jenny was up and out of the classroom as if the Boogeyman was following after her.
Glenn however, surprised her as he stood outside of her classroom.
"Glenn..."
He smiled at her. "I just remembered. I forgot to give you my home address." He held out a piece of paper for her.
She took it and tried not to laugh. "You could've just texted it to me."
His face reddened. "I know." He rubbed the back of his neck. nervously. "I guess I wanted an excuse to see you."
Jenny's face reddened at his words. "Thanks. I'll see you later then."
"Yeah. See you at my place later." He quickly left.
Jenny turned to head to her next class but someone grabbed her hand from behind her and soon enough she was being dragged away.
"What the h-" her words died on her lips as she recognised the person whose hands were on hers, dragging her along.
Then before she could protest or make sense of anything, she was pulled into an empty classroom.
The door closed behind them and was locked soon after.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jenny yelled as Daemon stood in front of her, towering over her as he walked over from the door, cornering her off.
"Getting my answers," he replied, his voice low and almost hoarse.
"What do you mean?"
"Do you like that guy?" he asked as he closed her tightly to the wall, his hands on both sides of her, traping her there.
Jenny swallowed as she felt her heart hammer aggressively against her chest. She knew exactly why she was running away from Daemon. Her body reacted to him in a way that she thought wasn't possible. "Who?" she managed out.
Daemon's eyes glimmered with a dangerous light before he growled out, "Glenn. Do you like him?"
Jenny furrowed her brows at the question before she realised that he must've overheard her conversation with Glenn. "None of your business."
"Do you like him?" he leaned down, his face mere inches from hers. His eyes were on hers, before it momentarily drew to her lips.
Jenny couldn't find the words or energy to reply as she swallowed hard, her body acutely aware of how close they were to one another.
She shook her head in reply.
Then a slow smile formed on Daemon's face before he returned his eyes back to hers.
"Just what I needed to hear," he said before he closed the distance between them and crushed his lips against hers.
