Heather Chandler had died not long ago, and Duke had certainly taken over. So, you had followed her around, just because Chandler was gone, didn't mean it was all over, the hierarchy. Even so, you would've followed her around anyway, being that you had a rather large crush on her.
So, it was after school, and you, Duke and McNamara had gone round to Veronica's. Her and her old friend, Betty Fin were playing croquet, but as soon as Betty saw the three of you, she left early.
"Bravo, bravo." Duke said.
The three of you walked closer, and she commanded, "I'm red."
Whilst Chandler wasn't the kindest to you, you still considered it disrespectful to her so, you said, "U-Um, Heather, wasn't that Chandler's colour..?"
"Key word, love, 'was'." She retorted.
"Did you just call her 'Love', Heather?" Veronica asked.
Your face went a bright red and Duke stuttered, "N-No, I didn't."
"Whatever you say.." McNamara teased.
"L-Let's just play!" You shouted, flustered.
Later, you, Duke and McNamara had gone to the food fair and it had come over the radio that Martha Dunnstock had tried to kill herself. You and Duke went round to Veronica's to tell her, gossip and listen to Hot Probs as you always did. Duke opened the door and went in, it already being open, and you followed her.
"Martha Dumptruck took a bellyflop off the Old Mill Bridge, just another geek trying to imitate the popular people and failing miserably." She commented cruelly.
You were going to disagree with her, but before any of you could say anything, Veronica slapped her across the face, hard.
As much as you disagreed with Duke, you loved her, a hell of a lot, so seeing her get hurt, upset you quite a lot. You stormed off to Veronica's kitchen to get her an ice pack. The two of them went upstairs, Veronica apologising profusely. You were still pretty angry at her, but seeing Heather hurt, made you soft. You caught up to them at the top of the stairs, and pulled Heather by the hand into Veronica's room and onto her bed. You sat next to her, and held the ice pack to her cheek.
"Oh Heather..," You sighed softly, "Are you alright? Do you need anything?"
"N-No, I'm alright, thanks though.." She replied.
You heard Veronica stifle a laugh, and turned to her, with a curious look on your face.
"You'd best not be laughing at Heather, or I swear to God Veronica." You threatened.
"No, it's not that, I'm really sorry by the way.. I just saw the way you looked at her. I've never seen you so, worried. I've never seen anyone look at someone else with so much genuine love and care, it's funny that neither of you will just confess. She stuttered at it, she's clearly nervous." She responded, smiling.
You smiled awkwardly at Heather, before confessing, "I guess you know now, how I feel about you. I'm sorry, I tried to deny it the best I could, but I'm in love with you Heather. At your best and your worst, I love you, so very much. Seeing you get hurt, made me so angry and I was so worried for you. I just, couldn't help it, I needed to know you were okay.."
"I love you too, I was afraid you didn't feel the same.." She smiled the brightest smile you'd ever seen. Before you could say anymore, she put down the ice pack and kissed you passionately. You pulled apart for breath, and you stared into her eyes, "God, I love you, Heather.."
"I love you too, Y/N.." She responded, smiling softly.
"Alright, you two, come on, Hot Probs is on." Veronica laughed, and patted the bed so you two sat down next to her. Heather held you in her arms, as you listened to the radio show, Veronica third wheeling.
You really did love her at her best and her worst..
